  1. The Republican Whack Job Party operates under the banner of MEGA. They are afraid of losing their "masculine superiority", so they are afraid of any self assured powerful woman such as AOC. I pity them and their fragile egos.
  2. I renewed my auto license last year, motorcycle this year. After registering I watched the video in English. The problem was that the "instructional" video is in segments. Each segment goes by quickly with only one mention of some rules then a test - sometimes with questions not covered in that segment. I also got the exact same question after two segments. I passed and got a QR code but they didn't tell me my score. Hint: If you fail don't worry, just keep trying until you learn the rules and pass. At the DLT office I did have to do the eye test and the brake test but I think the distance alignment test wasn't working because I didn't have to do it. If you have never done these tests then try to get toward the back of the line so you can watch others do the tests to see how they are done.
  3. You are right, things have changed since I last entered Thailand. Thanks for the heads up. I should have said the last date you entered Thailand at by international air if it is before June 9, 2022. What they do now for land entry I don't know. When you enter Thailand you used to be given a TM6 form, which was your date of entry and your renewal date was 89 days later. I understand they no longer issue a TM6 and the TM7 has taken its place.
  4. Take the bottle to the best pharmacy you can find and ask them what it is. If they can't identify it try a couple of others. One will know what it is and then you can buy it from them or Lazada. If you go to Rutnin don't bother with Bumrungrad. I got the worst eye exam of my life and a bum's rush to get me into LASIX the next morning from the head of the Bumrungrad eye department back in 2002. Never crossed their threshold since. After considering how I was treated at Bumrungrad I went to Rutnin where I had the best eye exam of my life. The doctor performed LASIX on me only after 6 weeks of waiting to make sure the swelling of my corneas from wearing contact lenses was gone. The results were amazing - 20/20 or better at first (there is some relapse with LASIX) and no glare or stars from bright lights at night. Twenty years on at 80 I need glasses for 20/20 vision but I can still see well enough to drive legally without glasses back in the USA. Yes, an ophthalmologist is a "real" doctor. An optometrist fits you with glasses but is usually trained to spot eye diseases then refer you to an ophthalmologist.
  5. The 90 day report is based on the date you entered Thailand, even if that is 10 years earlier. The 90 days includes the date you entered so your report date is actually 89 days later. The new 90 report date includes the day your 90 days expires so your new report date is again, 89 days later. The 90 day report date isn't supposed have anything to do with your visa or visa renewal date. Of course if an Immigration office changes the 90 day report date then just do what they tell you. If you do your 90 day report online Immigration will email you in advance warning you that it is due. When finished you can download and print out a 90 day report form to keep in your passport to show Immigration officers, police officers, condo rental offices, etc.
  6. You will get more space in an older condo for the same price as a new one. Many of these have been remodeled and are a bit higher in price but still good rentals. The View Talay condo buildings I am familiar with seem to be reasonably well managed and maintained. One thing you should ask about is whether or not the square meter area includes the balcony or not - I have seen it both ways. Generally you can get approval to replace older single pane sliding glass doors with new double or triple pane ones that offer better heat and sound insulation, but the colors must match the original colors. A South facing condo will be getting direct sunlight most of the year. A North facing condo will require much less AC, thus will give you a lower electric bill - typically one to two thousand Bt/month. From a North facing balcony you can get a good view of Pattaya, and the ocean off to the left, from some of these. An option not to be overlooked is to rent an older house. I have been renting the same 140 m² older two story house for 8 years for less than 20,000 Bt/month. I have two bedrooms, two baths (up and down), and a Western style kitchen with oven and counter top gas burners. I didn't come to Thailand to freeze so I run my larger downstairs (combined living room and kitchen) AC at 28ºC and my bedroom one at 27. The utility bills equal about 3500 Bt on average. The house is one block from Thappraya. There are more houses for similar rents within a couple of blocks of Thappraya. I'm sure there are some available West of Jomtien Second Road but there is no Baht Bus service on Jomtien Second Rd.
  7. You can use dry pinto beans or black beans to make refried beans far less expensively than buying the canned stuff. Better tasting too. Here is a good recipe from YouTuber Chef John, Chef John's Refried Beans. Thais render pork fat into lard all the time but they tend to do it at a high temperature by frying. The lard is dark and the taste is strong, usually too strong for refried beans. If you render lard at a low temperature you get white lard with almost no taste, which is fine for baking but a complete waste of pig fat for refried beans in my opinion What you want is to render most of the pork fat at low temperature then raise the temperature some and continue rendering the pork. Try for a very light brown with a good clean taste. How to Render LARD - Jill Winger - Old Fashioned on Purpose
  8. From real-helmets.com: "Real Helmets go one step further. It has been certified by the safety standard from the "Snell Memorial Foundation" that has been recognized in United States and to ensure safety blends seamlessly with the superiority of design." Search Google for "real motorcycle helmet phuket" to find a bunch of shops in Phuket selling Real helmets. Go with one of the bigger and better known ones. It is NOT too hot to wear a full face helmet in Pattaya Thailand. I don't do road trips, only trips within Pattaya, so I leave the clear face shield/visor in the raised position unless it is raining. I lower the visor when it rains to keep the rain off my glasses. If I leave a small gap at the bottom of the visor then the combination of vents and the gap provide plenty of air flow to prevent fogging up. I am on my second Real helmet and about to replace it with a new one. Over time the lining gets compressed so the helmet doesn't fit as tightly as it should and it is time to replace it. Once you can rock it around on your head it is time to replace it. Fortunately the cost of their helmets is very reasonable. You can remove the liner/mitten and wash it but unfortunately it doesn't seem like Real provides replacement helmet liners/mittens. Real also has some nice colorful designs. ???? As I put it, "My pretty face is worth the cost of a Snell certified full face helmet.". I will likely get the 2200 Bt หมวกกันน็อค Hurricane Koi Sakura ขาว-แดง. I also recommend you buy a pair of their motorcycle gloves - the first thing you automatically do is put your hands out to stop your fall if you are in an accident, resulting in lots of skin removal. Real offers two levels of protection with gloves. I recommend you pay the extra 255 Bt for the top of the line 1050 Bt ถุงมือ Snap IV ดำ-น้ำเงิน gloves.
  9. Encid, since "The house location will be at 15⁰ 40' 45.1" N. " you simply angle the solar panels from the same 15⁰ 40' 45.1" angle to the South from horizontal to get the maximum energy generation over the course of a year. The only reason for not doing this is if you are willing to spend a lot of extra money for sun tracking panels. The 15⁰ 40' 45.1" angle to the South is the best compromise because your home's location is North of the Equator. It is better to eliminate the panels at other angles and increase your energy storage capacity with the money saved on panels.
  10. If the past is a good way to judge then almost all the hotels and restaurants used for the zero dollar tours will all be Chinese owned or backed with Thai front men, or the deals with the hotels and restaurants will include a major kick back to the tour operator. The places the tourists are taken to shop will also have a big kick back arrangement with the Chinese tour operator. Very little of the zero dollar tours money remains in Thailand, the vast majority goes back to China, which is why those tours are called, "Zero Dollar Tours". The legitimately owned Thai hotels, restaurants, and shops that that don't go along with these arrangements will get screwed as usual.
  11. Obviously whoever wrote the title of this Thai Visa article simply didn't read the original article carefully. That is what editors are for, but obviously another failure to read carefully. Sigh!
  12. So possible when driving, 0.115% - which is over double the legal limit of 0.05 mg 1 hour later 0.100 mg 2 hours later 0.087 mg 3 hours later 0.072 mg 4 hour later 0.057, which is still over the legal limit 4.5 hours later 0.049, which is just below the legal limit I think I'll complain of chest pains if I ever get stopped for drink driving in Thailand.
  13. Don't buy your eggs at a supermarket, get them at a Thai food market. They are probably collected the day before. I get 30 size 0 (extra large) for 140 Bt at my local market in Pattaya. They aren't washed, as shown by some of them having chicken excrement on them, and are still fresh after a couple of weeks in the refrigerator. They would probably last just as well on the counter. If the eggs are fresh when you crack them into skillet the yoke will be surrounded by a thick "capsule" of white while a thinner layer of white that surrounds this "capsule" spreads out across the skillet. It is these two thicknesses of the egg white that gives you the flat disk with a thicker hump surrounding the yoke when the egg is cooked. 14. Four or five years ago Immigration at the Ban Hat Lek border crossing put in the wrong entrance date. I didn't notice it until I returned to Pattaya. I went to immigration in Jomtien and they told me I would have to return to the border to get it corrected. Note that I always approach Immigration officers politely, greet them with a sawatee krup and a wai, and leave them with a khawp khoon krup. After a little respectful pleading and asking if there was anything else I could do and the immigration officer told me that she could fix it for 250 Bt. I couldn't grab my wallet fast enough.
  15. That is similar to the one I recommended from Lazada except the one from Lazada has hardened steel disks you can use first if you have really abused your knife and it is extremely dull. Both are good and easy to use. Whetstone sharpening is better but damn hard to master, something I haven't really been able to do in 50 years of trying. By the way IAMHERE, it is pronounced "whet stone", often mispronounced wet stone because the stone is used wet. The name is based on to older term "whet", which means to sharpen. Got to love Etymology, it is so interesting to find out where words come from and how they have changed spelling and pronunciation over the years.
  16. If you can't find a good professional sharpener in Pattaya ask for recommendations from butchers in Villa, Friendship Market, etc. Using a whetstone is an art that takes time to learn. There are good videos on YouTube showing how to do this. Here is one I recommend: Basic Knife Skills with Andrew Zimmern. He keeps it simple, but don't try to go back and forth, just sharpen each side in one direction. Learning how to do this properly will take lots of practice but it is THE way to put a good edge on a knife. You need multiple grit levels. If you take care of your knives then this is sufficient - 1000 grit to do the sharpening and 6000 grit to polish the edge. [Ship From Thailand] Knife Sharpener sharpening stone Whetstone knife sharpening machine stone secret sharp honing TOOL 1000 6000 Grit Sharpening once or twice a year is sufficient for home cooks. Sharpening puts a very thin edge on a blade, an edge with microscopic teeth so the edge is like a miniature saw blade. The best way to cut is by moving the blade forward and/or backward so the teeth saw through what you are cutting. A good test of the edge of a kitchen knife is is to see if the weight of the blade alone is enough to cut a tomato as you draw the blade across the tomato. Don't store your kitchen knifes loose in a drawer. The blades can hit each other and damage the edges. Get a wooden drawer liner with trays for each individual knife or get a wooden knife block. If you get a wooden knife block that stores the blades vertically slide them into the block with the back of the knife against the wood, not the edge. This sharpening device is sold by several professional chefs who have YouTube channels, along with everything from dish cloths to pots and pans. Amazing how it is a tiny fraction of the cost on Lazada as it is on the professional chefs sites. 3 Stage Manual Knife Sharpener I have one of these and it is good for temporarily putting an edge on a dull knife if you need it right then, just use it judicially, and be sure to use a steel afterward. Get a steel (steel, not diamond or ceramic since they are too aggressive and can quickly ruin the edge of a knife). Here is an example PRESTIGE COOK'S KNIVES 8" SHARPENING STEEL . Cutting bends the tiny teeth on the edge of the knife, the steel doesn't sharpen the blade, it realigns the cutting teeth. Two or three gentle strokes is all that is needed to realign the edge's teeth. Don't waste money on plastic cutting boards - they get small cuts in them that trap bacteria. Get a real wooden cutting board, sand it down a couple of times a year, and keep it oiled properly to seal it. Get a roll of this Foam Rubber Anti-Slip Shelf Box Drawer Liner Placemat For Kitchen Cupboard. Cut off a piece to place under your cutting board and it won't slip - don't use a wet towel if you have marble counter tops since prolonged exposure to water is not good for marble counter tops. How many knifes do you need.
  17. I guess I can speak with a bit of authority since I am 80 years old young. With a major heart problem and arthritis I'm not the same physically active person as I was 10 years ago, but I wake up each morning with a smile and say to myself, "Another day in paradise!". I say that knowing that I can fill my day with joy in a place with interesting things to do, good friends, great food, and great weather (I love not having to shovel sunshine like I did snow). I also know that among the things I can do anytime I feel like it is send a message and a much younger female friend will show up to remind me of another reason I feel that each day is another in paradise. Giving up and stopping enjoying your life are simply things that I don't understand, and I hope I never will. I'm off in a couple of minutes on my motorcycle to meet friends for a weekly lunch at the Pattaya Beer Garden. If you are bored and want to make new friends come join us. We meet Saturdays at about 12:30 inside the Beer Garden at the big table in the North West corner.
  18. So the Cactus Club is gone. Sad news indeed since it was the bar I always started my Soi Cowboy nights in. I always had a ton of fun there and John's Wednesday night meals were always great. Over the years I got to know a number of the girls there, and enjoyed some private time with a number of them. I remember being upstairs with one of the dancers one night and as we lay on the bed I heard an angelical preacher outside trying to convert the local sinners. Not only did I have a good time in the bed but I got a great laugh at the same time.
  19. Looked up the price of a Chinese made Ora Good Cat EV the other day. It sells for just under $16,000 US in China but with import duty it is 1,286,000 Bt ($35,752.01 US) in Thailand. Way to promote EVs Thailand!
  20. I am a lifetime reader, having collected and given to libraries several collections of hard back and paperback books - likely over a thousand in total. I haunted the used book stores in BKK for several years after moving here full time in 2002, then I bought a second hand HP PDA and downloaded a ton of books for free. The PDA only had a small screen so I had to hit the down screen button a lot, and eventually wore it out. I replaced the HP PDA with a 10" Chinese Android tablet, put Cool Reader on it and have never looked back. I'm on my third tablet now. The first simply died. The second was a one year old Samsung I bought from a friend and when it died I took it to the Pattaya Samsung service center. The service center said it couldn't be fixed so I bought a new one, which was way overpriced at 30 K Bt at the Samsung store. The light bulb then belatedly went off and I took the second one to Tukcom and got it fixed for 1000 Bt. I now keep the old tablet in the kitchen for my recipes but now the battery is dying. I use the new one for reading for an hour or more in bed before going to sleep, or when traveling as my computer and as a book reader. I have a few paper books, mostly cook books, travel guide books, and a couple of Thai history books but as far as I'm concerned a tablet is the way to go. You can literally put thousands of books on one so there is never any concern over not having anything to read. I just checked Lazada and you can get one from many companies, including Samsung, Vivo, and Oppo for less than 2000 Bt. Interestingly two seem to be the same tablet with different brands and a 1080p screen. The Samsung ones have higher resolution 4K screens. I just bought a new Lazada - Sumsang Tab A9 Tablet 10.4 to replace my old Samsung because its battery is virtually dead.
  21. In Soi Cowboy try the Cactus Club. Haven't been there in years, since I moved to Pattaya, but I suspect John will still have his dancers nude. They might not be the most beautiful girls but they were always nice and friendly, and John used to put on a great dinner Wednesday nights. Crazy house was usually my second stop after starting at the Cactus Club, especially if I could get a seat at the back of the stage close to the stairs where the girls went up and down to the stage. Is there any place in Pattaya with nude dancers? Can't tell you about the go-go bars since I gave up on them because of the high prices but my understanding is occasionally yes. In LK Metro try upstairs at Kink. I was in a Gentlemen's club on Soi Boomerang last week sitting on the seats that are around the main stage and got an eye full. I don't want to name the club openly but the girls wear bolero style tops, well, sort of, sometimes, but the bolero top didn't get in my way at all.????
  22. Wow! I like that. Where can I find one in Pattay? A perfect runaround for Pattaya, except for what looks like lead acid batteries instead of Lithium Ion batteries. Charging? I'll do that at home, or in an emergency at one of the EV Charging Stations in Pattaya.
  23. I think that there is a 90 day wait between having Covid-19 and first jab. There definitely is a 90 day wait between first and second jabs.
  24. I lived 12 years in BKK before moving here to Pattaya 10 years ago. Both places have their pluses and minuses but of the two I prefer Pattaya, even with the flooding, torn up roads, and what seems like thousands of tour buses at times. Covid closed a lot of businesses and raised the prices of many things, especially imported goods and easy women but amazingly didn't raise rental rates much, if at all. I am still renting a 140 m² two bedroom, two bath, full farang kitchen house 1 block from a songthaew route for 18,000 Bt/month. I could easily move to a one bedroom 50-60 m² apartment for less money if I wanted. If you like Thai food you can still get a full meal for 40-50 Bt and if you cook for yourself you can eat even cheaper. As for women, unless you insist on the sub 25 year old beauty from a go-go bar or fancy gentlemen's club you can do quite nicely for 1000-2500 for short time to long time for an easy woman from a beer bar, a less fancy gentlemen's club, or via internet sites like Thai Friendly. If you want to live even cheaper then you move to a smaller city or a town. The most important things you will not have are first class medical care and as much access to farang foods. Depending on where you move you may or may not have easy access to a variety of easy women.
  25. They said the same thing about things from Japan until their high quality lower cost cars destroyed the sales of Detroit and European gasoline hogs. Now Japan is known for its high quality products. China is on the same track toward high quality manufacturing as Japan was. This includes an incredibly rapid shift from ICE vehicles to EVs, meanwhile the Japanese, Detroit, and European manufactures, especially the auto manufactures, are suffering from paradigm blindness and falling further and further behind the Chinese.
