As it turned out it was a piece of cake.
As it always is and glad to see you were part of the 70%

I gave up on the usb port.
Using a null modem cable I was able to flash the latest Pli image and the LAN connection is working again.
All other settings were backup on the harddisk, and easily retrieved.
I just got your PM and replied and I see you have done it now, well done and glad it was a software issue for you not a hardware one.
-
If the ethernet is not working it is 7 times out of 10 an image / software issue, and a reflash should bring it back to life. Did you install the nfi backup Ppanel (assuming you are using PLi) if so use this to backup to the USB stick (or hdd if you have one installed) there is a link to my web site on the Pli images web site.
However if you see your USB stick under /media/usb it should be there, so copy all the files you need with TC to back it up - reflash - restore and go for it.

Also, plugins folder, softcam, mytheatre, etc, etc.
Perhaps there are some disgruntled "Decoder Box" people who view the software option as a threat, or do not understand how to set it up.
I think you might be surprised who on this forum wrote/writes plugins for things like myTheatre, dvbdream, aldvb, progdvb ...

If you can get ToT you can also get others providers like CSLoxinfo who will also install on a ToT line and give you exactly what is advertised. So give CS Loxinfo a shot.

As a quick guess, your bandwidth as they both play fine here in BKK. So talk to your ISP
maybe they can help you out there.

They have this thing called nagravision 3 now, the rage is long gone.
He is guessing about IPK and what we call here CS - but he omits to mention all the law suits of late which Nagstar have initiated, and even the set top box makers going to court and put out of business.

if one has a pal in America that knows how to stream his satellite signal through his computer using VLC, then --if one has fast internet-- one can receive the signal with VLC. This is called card sharing. It works well.
Why can not the card be reverse engineered and reduced to software? It is all the rage with Nagra Vision in America?
Oh dear, no not at all.
VLC is the world largest media player for most operating systems (and is open source to boot) and can be seen here on their home page http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html and I see they have about downloads per second right now.
Now if you stream video via the WAN/Net it has to be transcoded in VLC from the source video to a slower speed and most likely mp4.
This has nothing to do with card sharing, this has nothing to do with your PCI card, other than with progdvb you can stream the TV or Radio channel to your local VLC app, or across your LAN.
I hope we are all on the same page now.
Also VLC has nothing to do with nag3 and Dish
Oh I love these stories. Listen to us sometime on the FTA Show (a 4 hour weekly radio show on Galaxy Satellite there in the US, and across the net, shoutcast, miro, itunes etc ) and you will learn allot more besides.

Have you spoken with Jon at Jsat ??
I lost most of my favorite channels while using Jsat services and they asked me the same annual renewal fees for only a few channels left without any guarantee. I told them that it wasn't fair and that I was nervous to spend money not knowing what I would get or not, and someone at Jsat just basically told me that they didn't want my business.
So I went to TRUE Visions, considered as having the worst customer support, and they are definitely better than Jsat so far...
Just my own experience...
Seems the satellite channels (the TV stations) are run by the channel provider and not jsat it hard for any satellite company anywhere in the world, other than a cable tv provider to guarantee anything on satellite (and we all saw what happened to BBC Entertainment), as what is here today may well be gone in the morning such is the dynamics of satellite TV and radio.

Opps I stand corrected
-
there is always the vmware player for both OS's and it is free .. but kind of defeats the purpose if you have dual boot.
-
To clarify my earlier statement; perhaps you don't have permissions to write to an external device---but I haven't played around with a Dreambox so I can't say. If my hunch is true and you have the root password it's trivial to change the user's permissions.
Simply use DCC or even sftp or samba in your linux box or cif copy (windows explorer) to copy them over. You can even do it from shell in the 7020 as well.
BUT - is the usb device mounted? If not all a pointless exercise.

Evolution mail works very well even with the 2000 odd mails (mostly old) in the main directory (down to the pc's processor I guess and memory if it is slow). The spam filter is quick to learn which is great. I prefer it over a web based mail system any day of the week.

Are there any software programs (plugins) that can be run with a vision plus card and prog dvb?
These eliminate the need for cards and boxes. The card is actually turned into software, and the decoder is in the same folder.
No that is not the way it works at all.
You need some sort of phoenix card reader attached to your PC with the original card plugged into it, and any irdeto cam (there are quite a few you can use in progdvb) to read the original card into progdvb and the likes.
No free lunch sorry.

Hi,
Talk to these guys, they know all about satellite dishes and receivers and how to set them up... and they speak English..
If they won't return calls, what good is their English-speaking ability
Well if you ring us in offices hours we will talk to you and return your calls, and email and all the real contact details are on the web site link above.
Now to get back to the OP,
1. No can not see freeview here in LOS
2. Yes you can use the box here on a number of satellites in LOS
3. TV 1 has a daily news feed on the IS5 C Band satellite

a domain name is is only as good as its promotion ... so any domain is a good one if you own it ..

I use this site to double check http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/

Hi,
I think there would be 3 possible causes:
1. Your windows firewall - which you have checked already, so okay on this one.
2. Your Anti-virus. Most antivirus programs have the option to limit network access by programs, so make sure that you check those settings also.
3. Finally, it could be your ISP. I see that you mention True... and it is possible that True may be negotiating a local distribution deal with Slingbox so it would be within the realms of possibility that they may be blocking the ports for this.
Best of luck
thank you very much. Will work on this tomorrow.
I agree with options 1&2 above but under item 3 your can change the default port (5001) to anything you like and the higher the better. I hope you have not updated with the latest Sling firmware release as it has some major bugs and has killed 100's of boxes.
I run 6 of them myself and they all work perfect on True here in BKK and most ofther ISP's to boot.

Been using these for a couple of years to watch the iplayer + others, reliable sevice.

I don't use virus software so can't say I get the same message.
I think your threat level maybe too "high" though, it looks as though it may consider anything with "proxy" in the title as being suspicious as they are used to hide your true identity online.
Can't see how it's "dangerous", It's a company selling proxies. I payed them money for my own proxy, they gave it to me, it works!
Make of it what you will.
[humour mode ON]
Maybe that is the real meaning of the warning "warning: money is about to part from your wallet, when there is absolutely no need to as you can do this for free"
But really, I suspect you are correct.
