    Canvas OK says BBC Trust

Although no official announcement is made until this morning (Tues 22nd), the BBC Trust is giving a provisional go-ahead for Project Canvas. Set-top boxes using Canvas software are expected to be available late next year for about £200 (E220), allowing people to access the BBC’s iPlayer and other web services via the TV. Partners are the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Five, plus ISPs BT and Carphone Warehouse.

The BBC Trust will order some minor modifications to the BBC’s original proposals for Canvas but the 2010 launch timetable will be maintained.

Canvas has come in for heavy criticism from BSkyB, which has argued that issues exist over consortium membership, the lack of a full market impact assessment and potential breaches of European Union state aid rules relating to use of the licence fee.

  2. At 2000 baht+ p/month True visions platinum is a complete waist of money, at 300 p/month through my dream box it's a worthwhile investment though :)

Where you face a criminal fine not exceeding THB 800,000 and or 2 years in Jail and as it is a criminal offense, deportation and never able to return to Thailand, all for stealing TrueVisions, I am glad you think that is a worthwhile investment (I think not).

  3. and we have a picture! its really messed up though, only around 10 channels and they are around channel number 660 and bad picture quality. i think the shop guys did some configuring of the pli. at least we got a lock on the satellite.

It looks like they have used old PLi software then, as the satellites.xml in the /var/etc directory is updated in Open-PLi and PLi Jade3 (Although a bit old now) so you should have over 150 radio and TV channels if you do a re-tune see the Pli Wiki on how to do this here

As to the picture quality, it should be perfect, if it is not, you have 12 months warranty on the box (I assume) so get it replaced.

  4. for linux users you would have had a giggle yesterday if you were looking for any of the 'tux' tools, as it seems it was a banned word and brought up the same screens. I wounder if they put tux* in their ban list :)

  5. There are many forums dedicated to satellite TV, but unfortunately the ones dedicated to Thai TV are in Thai :)

True enough, but google translate helps.

There is a thread in the a/v sub forum above about making your DM box read Thai EPG (electronic program guide) on this link http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Dreambox-Pli...le-t316160.html where I gave a quick how to do it with the Thai skins in the Pli software. There are also other threads in the linux sub forum above too.

  6. If you do decide to run a dreambox here is a good info site from the Pli image makers,http://www.pli-images.org/modules/wiki/index.php?wakka=HomePage, Dont ask just read, read, then read some more and then you will be able to ask questions.

    Glad you like it.

As mentioned above I wrote most of it (the wiki that is) and it is having a big update now for the next release and then the new E2 (DM7025, DM800, DM8000) software and more in the open-pli wiki as well.

So I am glad to see people here are reading it.

  7. Still wondering about the D-TAC which did connect via Edge ("E" shown on the top of the display, instead of "G" if it was only normal GPRS) but was still dog slow.

The speeds you mention above are slower than my AIS GPRS running on an old moto here under Ubuntu, so I would suspect they have not enabled / provisioned your SIM for the service yet.

  8. It would seem from the channels you mention the satellite you are using is at 105.5e Asiasat 3s and not the Thaicom satellite at 78.5e.

The current satellite you are using does not have SVT on it nor the Thai channels, so you might like to get the guy who installed it for you to move the dish to Thaicom. Your satellite receiver needs a card reader in it, to be able to read the viacess card supplied by SVT so you should check it has one in it and able to read the SVT card (when it arrives from SVT World).

    Happy viewing.

  9. And there are a few HD channels on the C & Ku satellite bands. True have a full 1920x1080 demo running and the details are below;

    Serviceinfo

    Name: RS100

    Provider: TRUE

  10. I take it this is Pirate TV, with no licensed progarmming of broadcast professionals doing the upgrade.

No, you take it very wrong indeed. Have you not seen the small yellow dishes all over Thailand, I guess not.

Anyway who cares, I just thought I would let those who use their service know what was going on, silly me :)

  11. TopUp TV (the Thai satellite provider) users nationwide will have noticed this afternoon that the following channels have been turned off;

    Australia Network

    NatGeo Wild

    Fox Crime

They say it will be back in one months time and will either credit us or extend the time on our little yellow boxes for one month. As per the message of your TV's, if enough people call the help desk on 02.735.4000 they will turn it back on (or so the lady said).

  12. Can anyone help.

I have downloaded the VCL media player, and the link to british TV. But get nothing.

A list of al the channels in a little black box like a command prompt box and then it asks - "What programe do you want to watch".

I have picked the number or the program but - nothing.

Did you install the mozilla plugin when prompted during the install? I suspect not if nothing plays. Try re-installing it and click on the install mozilla plugin.

For linux users there is also a linux version that also works well with vlc. This app is getting a long in the tooth now as some of the services are no longer there.

  13. Same thing has occurred every year since 2003,

about the same time botnet hit the net.. If you by change have an smtp server you can look at the log files, you will most likely, like us, see over 100-200 + local thai boxes hitting you with spam on a daily basis, so no wounder they did a blackhole listing.

  14. These guys here are a small outfit and are great for British import/exports too. I would expect that you will find that they are small enough to talk turkey with, but well-established enough to be totally proffessional.

    Ask for Christian or Nook.

Agreed 100%, they are 10 times better than DHL. However Indonesia is a pain for freight charges, as it is normally BKK->SG->JAK.

As a last resort talk to the EMS (Express Mail Service) people at your local lost office.
