Embassies and official consulates do not ask for much more than what you submitted. it seems you submitted the required the require copies of the required documents when you submitted the application. I think you would of known by now if there was a problem with your application.

The only law is the immigration act of 1979. Everything is set by immigration orders, regulations and procedures. I am sure there is regulation or procedure that states proof of residence is required. I would say the majority of immigration offices require proof of residence for long stay extensions.
