  1. Great interview with returned British soldier . Well worth watching to the end.
  2. Or thieves stole the plug for the rubber.
  3. At least his friend improvised one with a table cloth.
  4. Wife sampled it all. But the best English food she had was my mums Sunday lunch with all the trimmings. Here she is in Witherspoons in Shewsbury on the way back from North Wales :
  5. Spot on. Both my wives loved the charity shops. Couldn't keep first wife out of them !! The problem started when she got a virtually brand new , perfectly fitting pair of Armani jeans. After that I had no peace, We had to visit each and every charity shop within a hundred mile radius until she had a whole new wardrobe stuffed with designer label clothes and news. Back in Thailand she wore them all the time bragging to her friends how they had cost her a fortune but money was no problem for quality clothes.
  6. One other tip. Tell your wife not to take any of her gold with her. Not wise to wear in the city. My former wife had a 2 baht chain snatched off her neck as she was getting on a bus. The thief was young and easily outpaced her. Cried buckets as well you might. I had frequently told her not too have expensive gold on show as people these days know the value of Thai gold. Had to learn the hard way.
  7. Wife loved the clothes shops in Manchester. Cheaper than London. Also took her on the tram then another buffet lunch in Manchesters China Town. She even enjoyed the motorway driving and at how far better they are than anything in Thailand.
  8. My wife was lucky. It was early April and one morning there was heavy snow which settled for the day. Next day it was hot and sunny and all snow gone. We took the underground into London then a boat trip down the Thames to Greenwich. Lucky enough to see Tower Bridge closing behind us. From there was saw the Cutty Sark and Maritime museum. Then up Greenwich park hill to the Meridian. Coming down we enjoyed an all you can eat Oriental buffet in the old town. Great day out.
  9. However we may feel about the place I have never yet met a Thai or Filipino who wasn't exited by the chance to travel and who overall, enjoyed the visit to see how the other side lives.
  10. Find a good genuine car boot sale and take her there. I found that Thais I have taken there enjoy the bargains and get an idea of how to recycle unwanted household items. Bad time to be going weather wise. Might be cold and wet plus the early nights can spoil days out in the country so plenty of indoor excursions as a back up might be useful. One of the things my wife most enjoyed was snow ! Life long dream of seeing it and touching it satisfied.
  11. To be honest , the thought of an old man coming down peoples chimneys and emptying his sack is a bit disturbing.
  12. Normally , this takes place after the monks have already completed their door to door alms round. Once the votive offerings are collected the monks return to the temple and eat from the offerings. What is left over is then given to the village poor. Wife gives every morning and receives her benediction. Usually , it acts like my alarm clock.
  13. Knife sharpener . One of these. 80 baht : Best compact knife sharpener with suction cup SunrisePro Supreme Knife Sharpener for all Blade Types 4.5 stars, 2,534 reviews $13 This compact knife sharpener has many fans. “Finally a sharpener that gets my kitchen blade REALLY sharp. I’ve bought countless blade sharpeners and this is by far the absolute best I’ve ever used,” says one reviewer, adding, “this little beast is small for easy storage and the suction cup (so far) really grips any clean flat surface and doesn’t slip at all once the lever has been pulled down.” Dozens of reviewers also rave about the suction cup at the bottom of this knife sharpener, which allows it to be used on nearly any surface. “The suction cup grips well on smooth surfaces: granite, glass, smooth tile or formica,” says a happy customer. Another adds, “It grips even better if you spritz a little liquid on the rubber suction cup first.” A third raves, “As an experiment, I adhered ours to a window and it stayed firmly on that vertical surface for three days!” One reviewer concludes that this little sharpener is “very easy to use, affordable price, and about the size of the Eclipse gum container. I have a few serrated knives and several steak knives that definitely needed attention. They are now sharp!! I’m very happy with this sharpener and it’s a great item for gifting.” https://nymag.com/strategist/article/best-knife-sharpener.html
  14. Yup, mislead by England's 6-2 drubbing of Iran , she put all her money on them to beat the USA. If only she had spoken to somebody English before making the bet , they would have set her straight.
  15. I think you have misunderstood. They are not anally inserted. They just pin people down.
  16. I bought a knife sharpener for 100 baht. Result...razor sharp knives. Have to be careful putting my hand in the cutlery draw afterwards as just rubbing against them slices into fingers. Way better than done by hand on a wet stone.
  17. He should dress in an Adidas tracksuit and wander around Hastings beach looking lost. Soon be tucked up in a hotel. Learn a few Albabian words and bingo....sorted.
  18. I think the government is blind to where this is leading. Since this problem is clearly not going away but rather is getting worse , literally , with each passing day , they need to start planning ahead on how to accommodate all the migrants that will continue to arrive in the future. What will they do when all the hotels are full up ? If all the hotels are full ,where will tourists , who generate income and jobs , stay ? I mention a solution in another thread and I still think it has a lot of merit. Better than sticking heads in the sand and praying the issue will resolve itself. My suggestion is that the government invests in purchasing a decommissioned cruise ship or two, anchor it off shore , and use it to house arriving immigrants. Many of these ships are being sent to scrap before their time since covid completely destroyed the cruise ship business. People paid a lot to go on a cruise and so nobody could say that the accommodation is below par. Private cabins with all facilities , many eating areas and kitchens , swimming pools , cinemas etc. Immigrants could be housed on the ships until their claim for asylum has been processed. The Carnival Inspiration( pictured below ) could handle 2000 passengers when it was operating. And if it doesn't work out at least some money will have been saved and the ship is collateral that can be sold for scrap.

Sad. As Randy Crawford sang : Everything Must Change Everything must change Nothing stays the same Everyone will change No one stays the same The young become the old Mysteries do unfold For that's the way of time Nothing and no one goes unchanged There are not many things in life You can be sure of... Except, rain comes from the clouds Sun light up the sky Hummingbirds do fly

That tip Top has a long history. Hope it survived Covid. Had many late night meals there and its other branch up on Sukhumvit. Did a very nice Geng Masaman.
