  1. Yup, some immigration offices are corrupt and others are not. Its a lottery. The underlings usually reflect that attitude of the head honcho. From the OP it seems that the officer dealing with him was just looking for money.
  2. The present is when your partner tells you she is with child by you. Time stands still for a while until it sinks in.
  3. Doing mine next week. Latest requirements help to make sure you get all your ducks in a row. I have just had a stamp with my name made so that I can just stamp all the documents and sign. Last year had arthritis and could hardly hold a pen so it was a real pain having to print my full name on all the paperwork. Also , when photocopying all the documents I am getting a big space at the bottom of each copy to make room for immigration big stamp. This last was suggested by immigration Normally I just had the copies centered onto the A4 paper
  4. Knickers in twist much. Surprised the senators didn't approach the Icelandic government with their usual refrain : ' Do you know who we are ? ' The restaurant owner certainly does. He knows trash when he sees it.
  5. Et tu Brute ? Oh well. No surprise really. The daggers are out and looking for blood.. The way things are going it is unlikely that Move Forward will survive long enough to contest the next election. Far too dangerous to established interests. As for Phua Thai they should look at what happened to the Democrats after they snuggled up to the military to get into the driving seat. Too late for them now. Populist policies cannot wash away the stain of sleeping with the enemy.
  6. Bye. Drop your keys off at reception.
  7. Spike ? You need to edit that , quick as you can !
  8. I'm with Forrest Gump on this. Stupid is as stupid does. You are pretty enough to get a job on television but then have to gamble it away in the hope of being prettier.
  9. Tell us something new. Might not be rotten to the cor but rotten enough to give you the pip.
  10. Seriously, as others have pointed out , the misuse of anti biotics is not a wise road to travel. Their laissez-faire use has led to the situation that we have today , STD's that are resistant to treatment. Wrap up or get a steady partner who isn't sleeping around or one day you may be unfortunate enough to catch something nasty that you can't get rid of.
  11. Too late. I've already spent it in my dreams.
  12. Somewhere over the last year I missed some big events. Apparently, after cannabis decriminalization, the sky fell in , society and productivity ground to a halt. Murderers , rapists and other violent miscreants increased exponentially. Plague and famine resulted from farmers switching from food crops to cannabis farms. Thailand became a failed state. All this and more I missed. But if the new government now wants to turn back the clock to save what's left of the country then perhaps they could ban alcohol for exactly the same reasoning.
  13. It's a probe circle. Everyone completely satisfied with nothing left dangling.
  14. Yup. I checked today again for tommorow and all seats booked bar three, the extra leg room ones . To book one of those three remaining seats cost 6000 baht !! So..rather than risk not getting a seat at all ( overbooked ) I bit the bullet. On reflection it is probably worth it just to have no seats in front of me so I can stretch out, very useful as I have sciatica.
  15. I just re read his list. This is not mentioned anywhere ?
  16. Very sad news. Often read his posts. Was this today or yesterday ? We often read about these accidents in tourist hotspots but a lot also happen in the boonies that go unreported. My sympathies to his family.
  17. Depends where you are moving to. If you are moving to the north of Bangkok then a hotel around Rangsit might be best. If moving to the east or west that's something different. Need to know where you are moving and what your budget is if you want more specific advice.
  18. When I first came to Thailand in 1979 , if you stayed longer than 180 days you had to get a tax clearance certificate from the revenue office before you could leave. This cost a certain amount of money ( forget how much ). To avoid paying this you could ( for a much smaller fee ) get a civil servant to act as your guarantor . These guys would openly hang out around the revenue department offering their services. Everyone knew about this and it was considered standard practice.

    Decent sausages

I have tried a lot of sausages in Thailand but my favorite are the German nuremberg ones . Remind me a little of Cumberlands. Skin not thick and don't explode or fall apart in the pan or stews. Available at Makro. If I can't get them I just make my own sausage patties rather than buy from Big C or Tesco.
  20. I'm in the UK now getting ready to depart for home next week. Came to visit my mother and sort out my pension. It's been a tough 5 weeks and can't wait to leave. While here I sold the last of my UK possessions. Only going to leave some underwear, socks and tracksuits at my mother's. After staying in the UK for these last 5 weeks I can honestly say I would rather die from Lao Khao poisoning or throw myself in front of a tuk tuk than live out my last years in the UK.
  21. Actually, I checked my booking yesterday and considered selecting a seat only to find the seat I wanted had a 6000 baht reservation fee. Looking on the seating map it was surprising to see how many seats had already been pre booked ( marked in grey ). Most of the seats booked were isle seats. So...will wait for online booking and see what's available on the day.
  22. There is something in the dehydrated thing. Generally, I don't drink enough water as I don't feel thirsty. But recently I have made a big effort to drink a lot more water each day. Although this hasen't changed my energy levels I have noticed a significant improvement in my skin tone and health. Less blotchy and dry. Looking like a handsome man again.
  23. You just read it.
