Any idea where the 0.4 per cent hang out ? Asking for a friend. He's so tight he squeaks when he walks.

Biggest Ever Swing in By-Election
Denim replied to Chomper Higgot's topic in UK & Europe Topics and Events
I am now 66. In my time I have seen successive governments come and go. Both Tory and Labour . All I can assume from this is that if none of them had made a pigs ear of their time in office then they would have retained their office come election time. Either that or the expectations of the electorate are somewhat fickle and they just fancy a change in the belief that the other mob will in someway do more for them than those in the driving seat. And so , the never ending cycle of musical chairs continues. In the recent Thai elections, a breath of fresh air blew in and was quickly blown out. I can't help feeling that if the UK does not get a similar breath of fresh air then the countries downward slide will continue . -
Toddler locked in car for hours after accidental self-locking
Denim replied to snoop1130's topic in Southern Thailand News
Ha ha, yes in Thailand. Unbelievable as it sounds since any visit to Big C etc you will see a few parked pickups with the air con running. As I remember it was not made illegal due to any safety concerns but as a measure to reduce pollution and stop fuel being wasted. Announced in the press a long time ago and sank immediately. -

It was actually made illegal to leave a parked car with its engine running many years ago As usual, completely ignored and unenforced -
Spending Money - Should I follow my Friends Advice ?
Denim replied to AlienBoy's topic in General Topics
Moderation in all things. Won't hurt to treat yourself or your wife from time to time. Does not mean you have to suddenly start spending money like crazy. Life is for living and the clock is ticking for all of us.- 71 replies

Could an Israeli ground invasion of Gaza meet its aims?
Denim replied to Social Media's topic in The War in Israel
In answer to the title of the thread , IMO ..............no. Israel will find itself playing ' whack a mole ' on a grand and tedious scale . Even if they could totally destroy Hamas , they have created such a hatred amongst the Palestinians and their sympathizers that there would be a swift reincarnation of yet another group of anti Israel fighters. No change , just rinse and repeat. Violence begets more violence in a vicious cycle. Both sides are intransigent in their aims so the killing will continue until there arises a new set of leaders with a genuine willingness to compromise. Unfortunately you would have to be a supreme optimist to see even a glimmer of light at the end of this long tunnel. -
I watch the news and thats about it. If I don't feel like reading then youtube is my go to entertainment. This I can do in my man cave leaving the wife to watch her Korean or Chinese soaps. Dreadful things.

Why. I'm that old that hardly any movie I have seen has a new plot. Seen it all before. Also, a lot of movies are made to appeal to the generation with a lot of disposable income , no mortage or children etc. So they mostly appear to younger rather than older people. Hence, a lot of gratuitous violence and excessive bad language. Last good movies I can remember watching were Sideways , Missisipi burning and the Great Kowalski. The world would be a boring place if everyone enjoyed the same things and had the same taste.

It's been a long time since a new movie came out that I wanted to see so can't remember last time I went. In fact , I don't even watch television anymore . Prefer reading these days.

How times change. First time I went there with a Canadian friend 40 years ago we paid 100 baht for a bamboo bungalow on the main beach. No door , no windows no bed , no mattress ....no nothing !! Totally made fom bamboo and thatch. No electricity or water. Just a small generator for the 1 cook house and washing in the sea. Nowadays i think better options on the opposite mainland. Laem Sadet or Chaolao even Mae Pim is better.

Hope it doesn't turn out to be like a chicken a la Kiev. -
You are right !! I am never wrong. Off to bed now to sleep on it.
-
OK....let me spell it out. You are wrong and I am right. You can be sure of this because although we have both already imbibed a lot , it is manifestly clear that I am still in control of all my fookulties.
-
Agreed. Only one of us is wrong and unfortunately it's you this time. Take it on the chin like a man big bird. You can't be right all the time.
-
Oh but you are. You just need to read up on it a bit more and you will see you are wrong. No shame in being wrong. Takes a man to admit to being wrong. Shows strength of character..
-
Oh no it doesn't. You're quite wrong.
