  1. Agree. Have a few long time friends here but seldom meet up as we live in different parts of the country. I am never bored so don't need any kind of social life and make no effort to get one. Happily married and content in a rural village , far from the tourist crowds.
  2. I had a Squamous Cell Carcinoma removed from the side of my nose by the plastic surgeon at the Phyathai 2 hospital. Total cost came to just over 30,000 baht. It had gone quite deep and I was in theatre for 2 hours as he had to be sure it was all removed. All in greens for the op and wife was worried outside because it took so long. My regular skin specialist at Paolo Kasetsart wouldn't do it as he thought his skills were not up to the job without leaving an ugly scar. I mostly use private hospitals here to avoid the crowds but when I have used the government ones they have always been very good.
  3. Older generation....mostly yes. Younger generation , mostly not. There are thousands of Youtube videos of ordinary Russians being interviewed about the war. Surprisingly , some hate the Ukrainians and wish them all dead. Others are on the Ukrainians side and wish Putin and his cronies were dead. There are also many fence sitters, who won't even answer questions that could get them in trouble,
  4. In Pattaya I'm surprised they wear much at all. 2 big cities are not really representative of the whole country. Pattaya to Thailand is a bit like Las Vegas to America. In the provinces women are more covered up.
  5. I don't think the Philippines will Panda to the Chinese when it comes to national security
  6. Stop now before things get way out of hand !
  7. Awesome. At last a real reason to visit . Can't wait to get down there and try it out. I'm going to tell mummy about this.
  8. Basically ....don't taste all life has to offer and you might get an extra squeeze of the lemon if you press hard. I'd rather die 5 years quicker having sucked all the juice life sent my way than live like a monk proud to have tasted little but lived long. Understand this : Life is transient and temporal. You are going to die as a certainty and you will never know what the agent of your demise is going to be. Bad health or a tragic traffic accident. I'm with the Buddha on this....the middle way. Moderation in all things. Go on a bender and whore it up ....then stay at home for a week chill out. Wisdom comes from experience not study. Survive your stupidity and become wise.
  9. Best consigned to history and forgotten.
  10. I agree with you but the UK is not Thailand which is why I chose to live here not there. The reality is something else. To quote Pink Floyd : Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way.
  11. As we have already seen. Starting is one thing , seeing plans through to the finish is another altogether.. The Rwanda idea is a prime example.
  12. There is a stark difference between Ukrainian refugees fleeing to the UK and those paying criminals to traffic them across the channel.. A majority of the Ukrainians are women and children fleeing an ongoing war where they are in real danger of being killed. The majority of the boat arrivals are young men with a warped understanding of European customs and way of life.. They have been promised much by the trafficers and believe the cash they have spent is a good investment for a richer future. They regard women as more promiscuous than those at home who they keep under wraps and under the thumb. They have a sense of entitlement that if not quickly gratified leads to resentment. Wish such misunderstanding its hard to see how they will integrate and be useful members of society. No political party will ever be capable of stopping these economic migrants. Any and every plan to deal with the issue is doomed to failure from the get go because there will always be objections from someone somewhere to whatever is proposed. So, apart from minor tweaking nothing will get done until it will all come to an ugly head and a lot of violence will be the result.
  13. Meaning automatic transmission ?
  14. I started using it after my last lazer session as soon as the scars had dried out. I started seeing results after a few days. Two applications a day. Once in the morning and once in the evening. Not a cream , a gel. A little goes a long way. You can get the stronger 5 g medication as mentioned on Lazada , imported from Australia , but pretty expensive at 2500 baht a tube if my memory serves me correctly. As I said , the combined treatment has been very effective, I now use a little of the gel every day ( evening only ) as a preventative against any return of keratosis. Miss the odd day just to give the skin a break.
  15. What possible use to himself or society can the arsonist possibly be in the future. A life in prison ? Or just quietly do away with him and donate any useful organs he has remaining to someone who needs them more than him.
  16. Hmmm......color tests are part of the driving license exam. Not much of an excuse. Was she also seeing things double at 3.00 am ?
  17. Thank you Sheryl but if you check back , it is not me who had the melanoma. (Link temoved) My own problem has been two squamous carcinomas ( both successfully removed with surgery ) and Keratosis. I personally found that the locally available Klyzen Gel (active ingredient 1g Diclofenac Sodium ) has performed a miracle on my keratosis which has now completely disappeared, My skin doctor here prescribed Aldara but not enough to be effective and rather expensive. The Klyzen worked better, was cheaper and does not turn the skin red.
  18. Whatever the OP decides the best strategy at immigration arrivals ( airports ) is to avoid the queues that lead to a female immigration officer . Real sticklers for the rules especially if you have had a lot of Ed visas or look like a monger. Next avoid the younger male immigration officers trying to shine and make it up the promotion ladder. Pick the queue that leads to a kindly looking old man who wears glasses and appears a bit slow on the uptake. When your turn comes give him a big wai a big smile and talk about the weather and how hot it is in Thailand but the food is delicious and Thai people so kind and friendly. You will get stamped in no questions asked.
  19. I have had a lot of trouble with skin cancer on my head. A few Squamous Carcinomas and pre cancerous keratosis. The squamous carcinomas were surgically removed. Some of the worst kearatosis spot that looked like developing into something worse were treated with lazer therapy ( see the result in the attached picture as the scabs recovered) However, I was still left with the rest of the keratosis. After searching the web I came across this discussion. (Pasted text removed by Moderstor). Based on this I got some Klyzen Gel from my Pharmacist which contains 1g Diclofenac Sodium. The result on using this has been the almost disappearance of the keratosis and my skin in the affected area is about 95% improved. It may not be peer reviewed but it seems to work.
  20. I paid a fine there once ( wife no seat belt ) and they did not ask to see a license. Just the ticket from the traffic cop. That was a day wasted of our holiday as on that day it was jam packed.
  21. Never saw the other thread but not surprised to hear of an insurance company wriggling out of its obligations. This is the reason I self insure. When they cheated my mother out of a big pay out on my fathers death I vowed I would never give them a scent of my money.
  22. Why didn't you seek treatment in Thailand ? Just asking . ????
  23. Bring back Tiffin carriers. Re usable and create no waste. The amount of Thai food sold in plastic bags with a rubber band is staggering. ( Every single hour of every single day ) In Asia, everyone used to buy and carry their food in the pinto ( tiffin carriers ) so it's nothing new and although initially it would be a struggle to change peoples throw away mind set , eventually it would become the norm again.
  24. Just a steel drum band. They arrived ok but their instruments never turned up. Recognize any of them ?
  25. Cool. So what is needed to stop illegal channel crossings and people trafficking ? Under the new law, only children, the sick or those at a “real risk of serious and irreversible harm” will be allowed to claim asylum. https://www.reuters.com/world/uk/how-uk-govt-plans-stop-migrants-arriving-by-boat-2023-03-07/#:~:text=Under the new law%2C only, remove them in the courts.
