My wife said when we were at Makro last week she asked the guy at the check out before paying cash and he said True Money is accepted there.

I don't like the fact that I would have to use an app to get a QR code after loading my money from SCB to an app (True Money), like I said it defeats the purpose.

You don't need to load money into True money app. True money wallet allow directly charging your credit/debit card for the purchases that you made.

    Read what it actually says.....

He said he was being detained on the second floor of a police station in the town of Bokpyin 900 kms from Myawaddy where he crossed into Myanmar

Town of Bokpyin is 900 km away from the nearest border crossing called Myawaddy. How he drove this far without being noticed at many police checkpoints along the way is a mystery to me.

AC and fridge will need "big" batteries and inverter.

Newer Solar direct drive refrigerators use water packs instead of batteries as storage. It uses the sun’s energy to freeze water or other material and then uses the cooling from that “ice bank” to keep the refrigerator cold during the night and cloudy days.

I can buy a UK sim as I am in the UK shortly. My concern is that when the credit card company send an sms to me, and i am in Thailand, it wont get here.

You can use UK sim in Thailand in roaming mode. You will need to switch your sim to UK one when you made purchase using your UK credit card to receive the OTP.

Maybe the Swampy airport security people should do a thorough search

and find out just how many people are at the airport for multiple days.

    Might find quite a few.

    Geezer

Airports are air conditioned. Safe. Open 24 hours. Wifi is free. Accessible by public transportation. Uncrowded at night. And they don’t have limits on carrying your possessions with you. Perfect shelter for homeless people.

  8. It seems like a Thai banks are catching up. Citibank Malaysia has announced that its Malaysian credit cardholders will no longer receive rewards points or cashback benefits for transactions made at merchants within the European Economic Area (EEA) since November 2019.

The majority were from neighboring countries like Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar.

Majority of the foreign patients might be Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar but most of them qualify for free health coverage as migrant workers. Their employers need to pay into social security for hiring them in the first place.

    ROFL.

The exemption is also only for people who own land and house. So basically this law just <deleted> us foreigners, condo owners and investors in an already unattractive real estate maket.

This happens when people with no economic understanding run a country.

"Persons owning one residential house or apartment worth more than 50 million baht, will have to pay 200 baht tax each year on every million baht of excess housing value"

It does mention apartment in the OP so not only for landed properties. The way I understand is this new tax is targeted to people owning more than one house or apartment.

    To quote:

Meanwhile, JICA Chief Representative Katsura Miyazaki said JICA was pleased to be part of this project by sharing experience and knowhow with the Thai government.

This has nothing to do with the Thai government, it's more about foreign companies protecting their facilities in Thailand because if left alone Thais don't have a clue what to do.

A case in point back in the "year of the great flood" I remember many foreign companies in and around Ayuthaya being totally flooded out for weeks, the Thai response was to prevent future flooding they would build a high wall around the industrial site !

One wondered how people, supplies etc would enter & exit the site without water going in.... maybe they forgot to mention a bridge?

That's presuming people could get to the flooded industrial site with the high water levels outside..

On the year of great flood, the actual period of flooding was a little over one month but many factories cannot resume manufacturing for half a year due to long lead time required to replace expensive industrial machinery damaged during flood.

If water cannot get inside the factory and cause damage to the expensive equipment, factory can immediately resume manufacturing when water recede.
