There are not that many options in Bkk for a business guy who maybe comes out of a meeting late and needs to get to the airport. What I am saying is that there is a population segment for which 1,000 euros is like 10 baht to you and I… but missing a plane (and most likely another meeting) is out of the question. I know how these guys think and talk. Maybe he said "I will give you 1,000 euros" while driving but the driver didn't understand. Or maybe it is something completely different… but as I told the poster I initially responded to, yes, there are guys who give such tips.

True, but the poster I responded to stated that nobody gives such tips. That is incorrect. There is a segment of the population for which these are secondary things and what they want is to get from A to B without disruption. I don't know if this was the case with the guy in that taxi, but it is certainly a possibility.

In both recent cases, the individuals were arrested in the Phuket airport departure hall (for one of them, it is specified that it was the international one) by the immigration police. My first thought is that they must prefer to arrest them there than at a previous stage, possibly to avoid delays or cause a stir, or maybe to give them time to alert and deploy the appropriate team (I doubt the guy stamping passports in his booth can just step out and arrest a guy). And once you're in the departure hall, it's not like you're going anywhere so it's probably more convenient to make arrests there. Hopefully there will be more details about this, but I don't see why it would just be a Phuket thing.

If it was me, I would contact multiple lawyers and agents and let them know that I am willing to pay the price for this to go away. With a bit of luck, one of them will know someone who can "sort it out". I would not expect it to be cheap though, possibly over 100k. In any case, they would probably be able to organise his exit in the less painful way possible, maybe with no detention, etc.

I have to disagree with that. My newly acquired Dolce Gusto makes coffee which is pretty similar to what I would get in a café in France. A filter coffee maker could not produce that foam and texture. Of course there are better alternatives, but for 100 euros it's great value IMO.

I just got myself a Nescafe Dolce Gusto Mini Me on promotion on Lazada, 2,400 instead of 4,600. The pods are a bit pricey at 270 for a box of 16, which at 2 per day is a coffee budget of 1,000 per month. Worth it IMO as I prefer espressos to filtered coffee. I could easily combine it with instant though to reduce costs. Overall I'm happy with the purchase as it's also handy to have if you have people over at your place (being French, we drink espressos).
