1. I don't get it. If they were being 'rescued', why did most of them have to 'flee' ?

They probably panicked because they knew they were illegal in the country, and they were scared of the consequences. The article said that they snuck into Thailand after their parents were contacted by an agency. I'm sure they didn't want to be sex slaves, but they probably didn't want to end up in Thai jail either. And I wouldn't be surprised if they don't trust anyone now after what has happened to them. Hopefully those who fleed were able to get away to a safe place, and they are able to return home or figure out a way to safely/legally stay in Thailand.

I like your post and it comes from the heart and soul. Thank you very very much.

  2. "...seized evidence of sex trade including 17 account books and 18 used and 80 unused condoms."

<deleted> would they keep 18 used condoms for -- going to clean them and reuse them? Please tell me there's no way they'd do that.

I feel so sick and tired of these people who abused women. I wonder how they feel about selling their own children for sex. Is there any way Thai Visa members can do something about? Help?? ( Any NGO in Thailand )

    My take and opinion.

  3. Despite the doom and gloom, there is a strong likelihood the girls will receive some help. Strong clues are the fact that the tip off came from the Paveena Hongsakul Foundation and the involvement of the special human trafficing taskforce from the Children, Juvenile and Women's Division (CWD),

The task force doesn't screw around. They take their jobs seriously and have not been implicated in any significant wrongdoing, The task force has a good professional relationship with the groups that help people like these girls.

I believe Mrs. Paveena Hongsakil is a Bangkok MP of and general secretary of the Chart Pattana Party. She is a trained social worker and has a pretty good reputation. Back in 2006, the Nation said she was voted the female politicain with the best moral image. (The same poll said PM Abhisit was the politician with the best moral image.) Anyway, this woman is one heavy duty hitter and if her foundation is involved, you can be assured something will happen. For you trivia lovers she's chairwoman of Thailand's Fire & Rescue Association. (What woman doesn't like a fireman? B) )

Have some faith. Not every Thai public official is corrupt. Some really do have a heart and do care about people.

Well said, and a sense of comfort to know there is at least 1 reliable significant leader to police the corruption....

Your posts make my day and Mrs. Paveena Hongsakil is a good person that we can count on. Let's watch and see. This is not the first case and human trafficking never goes away unless we have a law that keeps the pimps in jail for life. I am standing tall for my post.

  4. Police concluded by promising that all of the victims will undergo mental health rehabilitation and receive further care, in line with an international treaty, as soon as possible. Unquote.

I wouldn't place much store on the promise of a Thai policeman. I hope that work commensurate with their abilities is found for these ladies but I fear deportation may be their lot.

You are so right and I feel the same way. It is too bad and I have been told that the Thai pimps ( forgive me ) sell the foreigners as such Cambodia, Laos, Burmese, and Hill tribes. ( not sure about Farang ) These people are poor and they think they are here for honest jobs. If the Pimps want to make money why don't they sell their own people as such children and relatives. The Pimps do not have to buy their own people and more profits after that. In my personal opinion they would not be Busted.... since foreigners can not bend in. ( do not get offense about my post....)

  5. So good of those idiot Dutch to give money to Thailand. We have enough problems at home but still give money to other countries. As far as i know Thailand has no budget deficit but Holland does. Why would we give them money knowing that its an utterly corrupt country and much of the money will be lost.

I do agree that we could help the Thai's with our knowledge but we all know how much the Thai's listen to others so its pointless. The only ones benefiting from this are the people who can get their hands on the money and those like the Dutch guy in charge who can play a big shot with taxpayers money.

If the Thais really wanted help then sending people in who work for free would be better then sending money. If something is given for free in general its not cared much for. Just think of the Phuket Tsunami buoy.

Good point and why the Thai wait so long to get help from the Dutch....

The Thai should pay the Dutch for her services rather than the Dutch has to give the Thai while the Dutch is broke. No comment about where the money goes? It is a sensitive issue ...I take a stand for my opinion.

  6. How are the Thai politicians with large investments in Cambodia going to get their money out?:whistling:

Good question and this is not the first time Thailand has her conflict with Cambodia. Sad, I received the UN e-mail and did not have time to read but, hope that the politicians are doing something?? The poor people are the most suffering from this action. Next time just have a fight in Bangkok between Cambodian and Thai army members. Leave the poor citizens alone and life will be alright. I wonder why can both concentrate on business like their neighbor Vietnam, she is doing so well...

  7.
My wife's family make about 500 baht each for very illegible voter in their family. I ask a while back as they were collecting their money where I could get mine and they just laughed.

I remembered in 1995 when I was in Thailand and saw my relatives taking money from several candidates. They said they would pick the Right one for their town. I asked why? took the money. They said every candidate was throwing money through their front doors. They were happy but, they would not comment anything about their decisions. Just took the money and ran. I was so unhappy at that time for their behaviors. There were nothing I could do. Sorry. My opinion.

  8. I didn't realise things were so bad. Saw a lot of bleaching last year near Phi Phi, but nowhere near 90%. Unfortunately closing the parks to the public will more likely than not be an open invitation to illegal fishing boats to plunder the area. If there are no boats around to keep an eye open, that is what will happen. Corals are pretty resilient though so growth to current levels will probably take no more than 15-20 years for most species, though for some slow growing types it will be a lot longer. Very sad anyway.

I like your post and it is too bad the government has to shut both parks down. You are so right about 15 and 20 years to catch up for Corals. There are nothing to be done except closing the parks down. Happy Chinese New year. My take.

  9. Metropolitan Police Bureau: 4,244 arrested for drug-related crimes during New Year: 640,000 amphetamine pills, 10 kg of ice, and 30 kg of cannabis seized /MCOT

Wow?? how much damage will impact the people who hook to Amphetamine pills?? Cannabis is alright in my opinion ( I do not smoke ) but, many people around my area are using cannabis. However, the worst drug already proven damage is prescription drug. Statistic already came out in America. But, in Thailand Amphetamine is still new I hope the Thais know how dangerous this drug can do to a person. I am standing tall.

  10. Haha Housepainter. you paint a good picture with your pen.

Yep you are right and this gentleman is making my New Year....

    keeps it up...

Thanks the Thai policemen who caught these Gang members. I wonder what will be next after these guys?? Recently, the 3 high school near my house found bags of 40,000 US dollars and they turned out the Robbers threw these bags of money near the bushes. The students turned money to the policemen and the crime lab was able to find DNA from the bags. Now these robbers will go to jail while the 3 students will attend fancy private colleges for doing good thing. Take a pick?? my take and opinion.

  11. I am a Canadian living in Thailand what I would have to say about this cop and the justice system in Thailand would be deleted by the moderators. I hope the cop awaits the same fate as the man he killed. Leave it at that.

You are so right. That says it all. We can not even criticize it.

I believe in Krama and justice will be served by the end. My opinion.

    Happy New year...1,1, 11....

Thai Tourism Hit By Overseas Snow Storms

    :coffee1:

    LaoPo

Suppose you have to take the rough with the smooth, a few years ago it was the smooth, but now more rough. Ha Ha --now its the snows fault. Whats with these insurance company,s. no insurance claims cause its a natural occurance. Then volcanic dust--riots - wars. I never (stupid or not) purchase travel insurance, as it seems to difficult to claim, and receive some return, its all pay out, then you find out they are not paying BECAUSE !!!!!!...big money if you die----lose 3 legs. pay if your hospitalised for over 13 months, the claims people need, are delays,,lost baggage/damaged, sick or injured on vacation, the things that are normal. Small print and small pay-out (if your lucky). One can get individual small packages, but try it in Thailand. the next thing will be drought, weve had the floods, dissruption, scams, airport problems at BKK. most things seem to be here that are affecting the tourism, is it foreigners money thats down or the baht thats high, both at fault ?? no surprise to read now its the snow, big deal/a week or so ??

Thanks for sharing and you are 100% right. Too bad at this time, one airline canceled 600 flights already and many people had to stay at the airport in order to catch the next flight otherwise they had to stay put at the hotels at least 2-3 days before they can travel..well the storm was really bad I did drive my son to get a fresh pizza and I was afraid to drive in the storm...Happy New year 2011.

  13. If NKP stands for Nakon Phanom = cross the Mekong into Thakaek, get up the ramp and to the left there are a few "duty free shops". The first one in the corner is quite well stocked (I get tons of Campari, Gin, Penfolds Bin 2 etc. from there). Cross the river again and yes, it is worthwhile doing the paperwork to get your own car in. That is where communism meets capitalism.

Thanks for the information, I grew up in Laos and have not been there since 1960. Hope to take a trip soon. Happy New year 2011.

  14. So what?? when i came to Thailand did anybody noticed me?? biggrin.gif

Hello I like your opinion and want to add more about this 26 year old. He is a Time " Man of the year 2010. " He went to China to meet with Baido CEO and took a short trip for a wedding in Bangkok. He came with his old girl friend, a medical student. Facebook Head quarter is not far from my artist girlfriends' Cafe which its on California Avenue. Recently he just donated 100 million dollars to his East Coast high school students. You can watch the interview from Oprah program The network estimated his wealth as such 6.9 billion. However, he is very very down to earth guy. I live in Silicon Valley and my friend's kid works for him. No one says bad thing about him at this moment. I am glad someone notices about him and do not worry about you next trip in Thailand, you just e-mail me. My take.

  15. This is discussing history, every airport had problems in the past. News must be slow.

Yes I agree with your comment and we need to share every airport in the world..let's start with Bangkok...then...China....US...etc...( we can write a blog on line about their problems )

Happy Holidays....May all of your Christmas dreams come true....

  16. I wonder what the CHinese Government would do in reaction to world leaders banning the use of Chinese Language in their countries? There are shop keepers here in Auckland that cannot even speak English to explain a product to me, and only know how to say the numbers (e.g. Two dollar fifty).

Sounds like China is taking Lessons from North Korea.

Now I know why I go to Thailand and spend my tourist dollars, and not China. At least Thais are prized for knowing English, and we are prized for knowing Thai (usually).

I shall read labels more closely and ensure I do not buy the products of a country that stands against the language I speak by avoiding their (crappy, unreliable) products.

You have gut to speak up and thanks a million...I can not believe this action from Chinese. The US imbalances trade with the China and I wonder how the Americans react to the news. let's watch and see. Thanks for spending your Holiday in Thailand and I am so grateful.

May all of your Christmas dreams come true...Happy Holidays and Happy New you 2011.

  17. From what I can read (between the lines) on this article, 1000 were arrested in relation to drugs. 4 of those were persons of high interst to Police. Some others were wanted for other crimes, related or unrelated to drug activities it does not mention.

A large number of those arrested were on the Police books, indicating they had evidence of historical dealing, or use, rather than actual posession o use.

Sounds to me like 696 were taken in, on questioning related to drugs and that some of those (an unmentioned number that will probably be created later by a roll of the dice) were arrested for actualy posession.

Good on the Police for getting rid of these scum. Great suggestion , to remoive those African dealers that hang around Soi 3 and the area between Soi 11 and Soi 13 on Sukhumvit - those guys are annoying punks. Most of them do not have valid visas either, or run on ghost jobs to hide their real activities.

Go the BIB for doing the right thing.

Love your opinion, and I am so Happy that someone will spend his or her nights in jail. The Best Christmas present for me. I myself have seen many people drug themselves to death. Many families go to hell and nothing these people can do to save their own children and relatives. I may not be a fan of bad cops but, there are so many good men in the police station. let's give these policemen the credit and wish them the best Christmas. My take and I am standing tall.

  18. Sounds like a very painfull way to go.

This is the price that everyone pays for. This man was not faithful to his wife. I feel for everyone and this lady did not know how to end it. I hope every man and woman gets about " Being Marriage. " It is a commitment and both have to carry on. Men and women do not run around and abuse the spouses. Women and men have pride and dignity. Unfortunately, this case she is not able to walk and find a new exit. We need to educate every person to stand tall and able to make a better judgment. I am sorry, my heart and soul go with the family and friends. My opinion.

May all of your Christmas dreams come true.....

  19. Of course, this being a male dominated society, there was no mention of the father of these babies taking any responsibility. Did these students get pregnant by themselves? I suppose putting the babies up for adoption is preferable to having the sperm donor being inconvenienced from knocking up his next victim. I use the word "victim" because as is the usual MO, he most likely told her that he loved her and would be with her to raise a family. Only to move on to his next conquest as soon as she showed the first signs of morning sickness. Why did Chinnaworn disagree with the law? Was is because he thought that the law should have made the sperm donor share some responsibility for the pregnancy, or that he thought if the girl was so stupid to believe the old line of BS that she wasn't deserving of an education? Hmmmmmmmmm, I wonder.

Wow,wow and wow..you hit the spot and I love your opinion. Thanks a million.....

  20. A man died and because he liked a beer, like a lot of westerners do, and because he wasn't as popular as the other residents (maybe even a case of the others ganging up on him and shutting him out).

I detect from the first few posts that a lot of people seem to be rather happy that this guy is dead.

Shocking response, and to call someone who has lost their life, a moron is quite frankly disgraceful behaiviour, and karma does work, even against those who speak ill of the dead.

So quit it with the insensitive comments levelled towards an unfortunate individual. Whatever the TRUE background to the story, you should NEVER speak ill of the dead.

Remember, this story came from the gutter press, as you can clearly tell by the style of writing.

Love your post and you make me laugh so hard especially about the Gutter press. Well I am sorry about this man who died and my heart goes with his family and friends.

  21. What a crock of sh*t. These people will end up handcuffed in local jails like the recent case of the Briton in Pattaya.

    As of 2006, the most recent WHO report shows that;

    - There are only 17 mental hospitals in Thailand providing 13.8 beds per 100,000 population. In the last five years the number of mental hospital beds has decreased by 7% (There has not been any significant increase in funding since the report was issued in 2006.)

    - There is no provision for routine follow-up community care.

    - No facility has mental heath mobile clinic teams.

    - In terms of treatment, a few patients last year received one or more psychosocial interventions.

    - There are no mental health day treatment facilities in Thailand, except the ones specifically for children with mental retardation or for people with substance abuse.

    - There are 25 community-based psychiatric inpatient units in regional hospitals with 0.4 beds per 100,000 general population.

    - Community residential facilities for patients being discharged from the hospitals do not exist.

Who will take care of these mentally ill people?

    - 419 psychiatrists (0.66 per 100,000 population)

    - 110 other medical doctors (not specialized in psychiatry but associated with mental health care); 0.17 per 100,000 population);

    - 2406 nurses (3.81 per 100,000 population);

    - 163 psychologists (0.26 per 100,000 population);

    - 465 social workers (0.74 per 100,000 population) (Other reports cite 0.56)

    - 125 occupational therapists (0.20 per 100,000 population

The numbers speak for themselves. The mentally ill will not be treated.

There will be no occupational therapy and the problem will continue.

That is the reality. Welcome to Thailand where people that should know better call the mentally ill nutcases.

Wow?? Thank for the information and I am so surprised to see there are so many nice buildings, shopping centers, super markets, fancy hotels and variety of cars. Why not mental institution for mental health population? No money or other issue?? My take.

  22. It would seem the actual spelling of his name is Ryder. Here's a background article on the suspect:

Man jailed over child porn images

A businessman found to have more than 3,550 child porn images on his home computer and a CD has been jailed for 14 months. Kevin Ryder, 45, was living in Otford, near Sevenoaks, when officers raided his house in October last year. A judge told the 45-year-old: "This type of activity is abhorrent and without in the first place your purchasing power and, thereafter, your ability to download from your computer, this type of criminal offence could not flourish." Ryder admitted 28 charges of possessing indecent images of children and three of making indecent images.

Maidstone Crown Court heard that Ryder was arrested as a result of a police operation launched in the United States in 1999. Jane Scotchmer, prosecuting, said suspects were identified by their use of credit cards to access websites. Details of British offenders were passed to police in this country. Andrew Lewis, defending, said Ryder accepted that a computer at home was "a temptation too far". He had decided to undergo therapy.

Ryder had been made redundant from a well-paid job in the City. He started his own business, which provided employment for 60 people abroad. He was disqualified from working with children for five years and banned from having a computer at home. He will remain on the sex offenders' register for five years.

    C.H.R.I.S. - July 2006

Thank you for the information and I urge Thai visa Forum members and guests to communicate with each others. No point to fight and trash. Porn and computers lead too many crimes in the United States and the world. It is about time we need to educate public the danger of Child molesters, sex offenders, rapists and human trafficking....Many children and women got kill from related sex crimes. 5000 Rape cases did not get forward in Los Angeles. The victoms only pays 500 dollars to test kid and she can send a Rapist to jail. The same man raped several women and still can walk because, no one pays attention. I do not need to go into details. When money is only revenue for groups of people who benefit from prone and kid prone. I and the world can not fight except educate the public. It is very sad and I do have to accept it is the only job of 21TH century that people think it is acceptable. My take and opinion.

  23. So sad. No man is worth killing yourself over. (Or no woman, for that matter)

Death never solves anything. But in any event, may she rest in peace. A truly sad story in deed.

Unfortunately, some people see their lives as so bad that death actually solves everything.

No more misery of broken relationships, worrying about where your next meal is coming from, and lets not forget that many Thai ladies are skint, go to work in large cities for money for their families and end up in the sex trade - as a close female friend of mine told me this very weekend - when its a choice of 14 hours back breaking work in a rice field for food money, or nipping to the big city to make cash from foreign male visitors, the second distasteful choice is often their course and this obviously leads to low self esteem, hidden of course by a beautifull smile. I actually felt very guilty and sad this weekend that I could not give my friend more financial assistance. Sad world we live in.

Newbie thanks for posting. Your opinion is 100% hit the target. The world is not like the way you and I are growing up. It is a fast pace, dog eats dog, and anyone who fits will survive. May she rested in peace and my heart and soul go through her family and friends,. My take and opinion.
