Big smiles on Biden's face at his speech today.
spidermike007 replied to Cryingdick's topic in Political Soapbox
I cannot even imagine how relieved he is that he'll be walking away from what must be the most toxic job on the planet in a little over 2 months time. Argue all you want about how effective a president he is, but I do think he was a decent man which is a lot more than can be said for the next occupant of the office.- 56 replies

Why Kamala Harris Lost: The Challenges of a Complex Campaign
spidermike007 replied to Social Media's topic in World News
The juvenile name calling continues. Go ahead, continue to diminish yourself. -
See ya. As I get older, I am developing a new skill set. I am becoming very good at ignoring nonsense, ignorance, naivety, and overly judgmental people. They barely register on my horizon. Social media seems to have amplified things and the media itself is "overly woke", which essentially means unconscious. I just don't care. Water off a ducks back. Don't have time for the foolishness. Later on in my life, it became a big theme: just being okay and comfortable to take the risk and to have really thick skin and realize not everybody is going to love you or what you put out there. Get over it, and if you believe in yourself, your product, your act, your music, or just about anything, just keep going forward. Jesse Itzler Having a thick skin doesn't mean that you're hard or harsh. I was lucky because I was born with a thick skin. That doesn't mean that things don't bother me, but you have to keep it in perspective. Shelley Moore Capito

That is humorous. You think way too highly of their capabilities. And you live in a world of fear. I don't. -
Why Kamala Harris Lost: The Challenges of a Complex Campaign
spidermike007 replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Oh please. I think this has to be an inflection point for the dems, there is much to be learned. I can't tell you the number of people that I've spoken with that tell me that the two biggest issues for them were the economy (and their perception that Biden was not doing much for the economy, which I tend to agree with) and the PC agenda. Especially trans rights, the fact that they had daughters who competed on teams that insisted on a man who decided to transition being allowed to use the same locker room even though his package was still intact. I don't think that as a Democrat we can overestimate the degree to which people were offended by that kind of policy. I could go on and on about the PC agenda and the extent to which it alienated tens of millions of folks, feeling like it was being crammed down their throats, how to speak, how to behave, and how to act. I have to admit I am amongst those people, I am not a PC guy, I have not bought into the woke agenda, so I can relate. The other aspect of this is that Biden should have been forced to accept one term, and he should have been moved aside before he even made the decision to run again. It's not about deferring to an incumbent, it's about the survival of the party. My last thought is that after this massive failure the entire Democratic party apparatus should be dismantled, all the people in charge should be fired, and the party should be rebuilt from scratch from the ground up. Demonizing conservatives at this point is simply not helpful, there is a reason why they voted the way they voted. I have a lot of conservative friends and family who I love and respect and I get why they were not comfortable choosing Harris. I did not like her, I have never liked her, I did not find her to be a likable character and I cannot express how many people have spoken to that disliked her to a huge extent and were extremely turned off by her extreme lack of policy. That was not misogyny. It was personality, her track record, and a lack of substance. We must learn from this or we're destined to repeat the same mistakes over and over. -
Stray Dog Menace Alarms Pattaya Community, Urgent Action Demanded
spidermike007 replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
The real solution is massive, nationwide culling. These are mangy creatures, leading desperate lives. Show some nerve and compassion and take them out of the misery. Clean up the streets! People get so sensitive about soi dogs, yet they do not hesitate to encourage the killing of pigs, cows and other animals for their own enjoyment and consumption. Isn't there a bit of hypocrisy there? If you eat animals, you are responsible for their slaughter. At least one can make an argument that the animals they eat serve a function. That argument cannot be made about the mangy, diseased, pestilent, sad, forlorn, abandoned soi dogs. They lead lives of desperation. If you love them show some commitment and adopt a few. Otherwise, let's get rid of them. -
What Americans Want and why Democrats Failed
spidermike007 replied to NickyLouie's topic in Political Soapbox
As a centrist dem I disagree. Inflation is still raging (despite what the fake govt. reports say), consumer confidence is very weak and there are a number of reasons the stock market is so high, which have nothing to do with a strong economy. It is harder to survive for the average American, than it has ever been. -

Thailand Targets Eight Million European Tourists for Record 2024
spidermike007 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Quantity over quality works well, if you are selling two dollar items at a swap meet. Attracting a higher number of lower end tourists, who do not spend alot, benefits very few. It just creates congestion and lowers the quality of life for everyone. The goons in charge are incapable of learning. -
Patong slams brakes on taxi conflicts to boost tourism image
spidermike007 replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
Absolutely correct, and it is exactly the same thing on Samui. I remember 10 years ago when the army established power they sent in a hundred soldiers to clean up the taxi problems, they set down all kinds of new laws and rules and edicts, and two weeks later everything was the same. I got into a taxi and asked them to use their meter and I was laughed out of the car. The authorities here are some of the least serious people I've ever encountered in my lifetime. -
I completely agree, I remember a very long time ago when being a liberal was a badge of honor. Now the extreme left of the party is just nonsense, and represents stuff that very very few Americans can relate to. Most dems like myself are very centrist, and I found it very hard to vote for Harris. They did this to themselves, the Dems have no one else to blame for this, though the blame game is going to be incessant.

I agree that the country needed change and it is quite obvious that the Democratic party is broken. The big question is Trump the change that we needed? Is Trump the man that he says he is? Is Trump the man that his supporters think he is? Is Trump sincere about the well-being of the nation and its people? Will Trump put the well-being of the nation above himself? Will he destroy alliances and will he coddle dictators? Will he golf less than 150 times a year on the nation's dime? All that remains to be seen.

Should I Tell My Friend That His Girlfriend Is Trans?
spidermike007 replied to JK-Trilly's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I find it nearly unbelievable that a guy in his position wouldn't already know the truth, there are so many telltale signs, that he has to know, and he has to be okay with it. So it's probably okay just to drop it. I have a good friend who years ago was in a similar situation, he told me he was in love, and he adored the woman, they were together for a couple of years. Finally he came to town and we met and his woman was not only a lady boy, he was very obviously a lady boy! I never discussed it with my friend but my woman and I were pretty shocked. -

spidermike007 replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
Since the taxi mafia's seem to be stronger and more powerful than both the police and the army, I don't see anything positive ever happening regardless of the amount of egg the authorities have on their face, from a staggering continuation of tax related incidents. The police not only don't care I think they tend to side with the taxi driver when an incident takes place. Lastly I think the cars are much bigger problem than the motorcycles.- 16 replies

Thailand's Expats Urged to Register with TRD for Tax, Says Expert
spidermike007 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The only way they could get me to register for a tax number would be to threaten to deny the renewal of my visa. Anything short of that, and I will remain without a tax number as long as I possibly can.- 744 replies

I agree. The dems should talked him out of a second term, before he even announced. He was in no position to win. Then they could have found a real and capable candidate, which Harris was not.
-
Time will tell how this second term experiment works out. I hope to be pleasantly surprised. However, I expect him to consider it a mandate for extremist policies and dread the damage he would do to the environment. We don't have any alternative planets, in case he does not know that. I am also very concerned he will surrender to the wishes of Putin, MBS, Kim and other dictators. Another concern is that the huge tariffs he is proposing on imports will slow down the economy, as they are a huge tax hike on the American people, not American companies manufacturing overseas. I am hoping he will surprise us skeptics, and actually enact some policies that will be beneficial. And I am also hopeful he will not throw our allies under the bus. Lastly, unlike his last administration, I am hoping he sees fit to actually appoint some talented people to this new administration. And plays under 150 days of golf per year.

Trump Declares Victory and Promises a "Golden Age" for America
spidermike007 replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Yikes. Welcome to a new world order. The dems absolutely need to take some responsibility for this. Some think it was about misogyny. Wrong. Exit surveys show Harris was equated with Biden and both were deeply disliked. I did not like her, so I can only imagine how conservatives felt. Everyone I spoke to in the past few weeks said how unlikable she was. We must learn from this. The Dems need to dismantle the party, and rebuild it from scratch. Every official should be fired. -

I guess you've never been in commercial real estate but when you are a relatively small guy and you own a couple of buildings, and someone comes along and makes you an offer, there is a tendency to accept it. Once you sit down at the closing table which is how deals are done in New York it is then that you realize you're dealing with a money grubbing, creepy monster, who absolutely refuses to leave $1 on the table.
-
It's fascinating how a supporter of the most divisive, and the most hateful candidate for the office of presidency in the history of America can even talk about unity and harmony, after this man has run the ugliest campaign I've ever witnessed in my lifetime. Talk about hypocrisy.
-
No. I won't. I began to dislike Trump in the early 80s when I worked in commercial real estate in New York City and I dealt with a number of associates who had direct dealings with Trump. All the stories were the same, he's a gangland creep, he's a thief, he's a scam artist, and he is a pathological liar. Being president is not going to change any of that, getting elected to a second term is only going to make his tendencies worse. You watch, don't say I didn't warn you.
