Perhaps he doesn't want the job. We are building and face issues like this all the time. You didn't say where you were, but like, if he is busy then he's turning down good paying work to do your job then its understandable. I got a guy atm, he gave me a price and I asked him how he got to that, he said, 7 days @ 2000B a day for his crew of 4 = 14K. I also thought it would take 7 days, the bonus is, if they work harder, which they are, they will finish in 5-6 days, and they get the bonus. He's a great guy and a great team, but it took a lot of time and luck to find him. Other guys that came asked for 60K for the same work, a few others came and asked for 10-15K but with less guys, and they couldn't even read the plan, which is a big problem here, builders that cant read a plan .. jeez. If they were laying blocks it would be 80B/ m sqr, or thereabouts, render is 90-100B / m sq but you couldn't expect that on four rows of bricks. q-con are 36B each, a bag of cement 150B. I would look for a guy on day rate. 500 for a tradesman, 400 for a laborer, 1000B for the boss who supplies lunch and fuel. Thai builders are obsessed with "Mao" or price work. I used to do price work on big sites in London, it was reserved for the best guys after proving that they could do a good job on day rate. It would be an opportunity for good workers were rewarded with more money in a short time by working harder for long hours because the client wanted the job done fast. In Thailand, they think it's a right, a way to charge more for less work. Apparently, the work will be better if its on price, on day rate its slow and not good quality (not my words)

I have a feeling you have posted on this subject before. Have you an apple device or tv capable of loading Apple TV(+) app? I don’t know if you get movies if you subscribe to the monthly service, but you can certainly rent movie titles for 129B, once “rented” you have 30 days to watch them, but once you start a movie, then it’s 48 hours to finish. If you have a vpn, then you may be able to subscribe to Hulu, that’s $7 a month, but not available in Thailand, hence the need for a VPN. Both offer free trials from 1-3 months. If you get bored of Netflix, there is nothing stopping you from cancelling, and hopping to another service for a while, as suggested, HBOgo, Disney+ - if you have a vpn then you can still access bbc iplayer, usually tv shows but you can find some movies, SBS has some good older movies for free .. https://www.sbs.com.au/ondemand/movies - if you use a vpn to access a legal but georestricted site, is it still legal?

A FYI for those who use pirate streaming services that seem to be popular. https://consumer.ftc.gov/consumer-alerts/2019/05/malware-illegal-video-streaming-apps-what-know This is a warning, from a government source, so to be taken with a pinch of salt, but it is a real threat. There are safer ways to get your content than visiting these sites or installing their apps - subscribe to a IPTV service, download torrent files. Stremio is considered pretty safe, and also the torrent steaming plug-in on KODI is a good source.

I wish it was 80-90 mins - The wife likes to watch a movie on a Sunday night, we have watched a few things recently - Fast X being one of them, I think John Wick 3 (which I must admit, I like the different fight scenes) every one of them, more than 3 hours! That's almost half a working day!

It seems you have omitted the rest of the article explaining how torrents work, it’s not a warning anti-torrent article. https://www.lifewire.com/torrent-file-2622839 Torrents as a protocol are not inherently dangerous, The video files that others are talking about are not executable files, so the chances of a video file containing a bad actor are very slim. If you read further into the article it specifies mp4 files, in any event you would need to run a process manually, it wouldn’t be a scene from Mr. Robot, where a video is played opening a back door to a hacker. However, that being said, what concerns me is the light hearted way that people recommend torrents on forums to people who may not be totally computer savvy. You are downloading an application that automatically opens ports within your firewall to the outside world which can be exploited. Maybe you have your crypto wallet, financial details, a backup and details of an encryption file on your computer, bad network and security practices are far more dangerous than the possible threat from a movie file.

What Movies or TV shows are you watching (2023)
recom273 replied to CharlieH's topic in Entertainment
I thought the first scene was awesome .. tbf, I don't remember the first two seasons, it's not the thing I watch for the deep storyline, the fight scenes remind me of updated shaw bros. I don't think you will be disappointed. Hijack is going down well. It's hard to get my wife to sit and watch a series, she recognizes Idris Elba and its got Thai subtitles, although maybe a little slow going, a winner all-round. -
BMW driver arrested for using fake registration plate to waive toll fees
recom273 replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
I admire the effectiveness of the police, assuming the woman made a return journey to work from Monday to Friday. It took them nearly 6 months of close monitoring, using an ANPR system to catch a woman with fake red plate, Kor Kai 8888. Great work guys! -
https://mega.io However, if you do a bit of sharing then it might be an idea to set up your own ebook server on a small low powered computer like a raspberry pi. I guess you know calibre, there is another app called calibre-web which is a web GUI for your calibre library, both my parents have access, they send me requests and I grab them, put them in my calibre library, then they download them straight to their kindles at their leisure.

What Movies or TV shows are you watching (2023)
recom273 replied to CharlieH's topic in Entertainment
That's balls, yup, only the first two have English subs, there are also 3 offshoots of it too - all without English subs. I thought I would start the series as I saw notifications for S05 and I remembered your recommendation - it didnt cross my mind that they didnt have subs. Same as Line in the sand, its now got an English name "The Cops" and no subs available yet. Unknowns is a bit slow, more of a drama than action, but still interesting. This starts this week sometime. -

I saw that Line In the sand is back for a second season, but no English subs, so started another Israeli drama, unknowns which looks ok, but lacking in guns and drugs. I think @Mutt Daeng mentioned Mocro Mafia a long time ago but I never got around to checking it, now in a new fifth season. It can make up the drugs and gang quota. -

1000 Island Dressing on a Pizza????
recom273 replied to sqwakvfr's topic in Western Food in Thailand
The missus would always want to buy Pizza co. when they did "buy one - get one" for a month, now they do "2 fer" every Thursday. I don't mind Pizza co. once a year, but its more like a savory sponge cake. -
When to blur car number plate in photos?
recom273 replied to problemfarang's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
If whoever parked correctly, then they wouldn't have their photos taken, right? So what's the issue? Locals seem to have issues with this public loss of face. Wether or not they are blurred, the cars will still be identifiable, I should imagine. -
Student Killed in Gas Explosion During Fire Drill
recom273 replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
This is sad. I have seen a few events like this where adults teach kids to do brave acts in schools. Yes, it's good to be aware of the different types of extinguisher and uses. However, we were always taught the main rules were to get to a place of safety and call the fire brigade. These displays always have to have a fun or wow! factor. Im sure someone would have set off the fire extinguisher to get a big cloud of co2 and everyone can laugh and smile. Not today, sadly. -
Are SD cards more reliable than USB flash drives?
recom273 replied to Kenny202's topic in IT and Computers
People say this, I only use Sandisc ultra, and I have never lost one, despite homebridge writing to the sd card. I have 4x pi’s in a 1U rack, I make images of the whole cards and backup the data from time to time just to be on the safe side, so far, so good. -
No, the anamai are government clinics. LOL! I also know of a clinic very similar to yours. He is the only clinic open in the daytime in Hat Yai, I needed a sick note for my employer and I went to this clinic. He proudly displays a certificate from Stanford University on his wall, although there was nothing wrong with me, he insisted on a checkup and told me I only had months to live and that I should have this saline drip. ???? We used to get out drivers license and WP certificates from him too as he was open until 11.00 pm - in reality, you pressed the buzzer and woke him up. Same story, “so .. feeling ok? Any problems? There you go 50B for Thai, 100 for “farang” .. when I went there, always old people there on saline drips, always made me chuckle. But, yeah, evening clinics are usually staffed by doctors from the hospital and anamai are usually by government nurses, but I agree there are fake clinics.
-
I don't know if that's the same for Thai people, but I'm sure they wouldn't turn away a feverish 5 year old that wasn't registered in the local area. But just to say, I agree, Anamais are great! If you have a problem in the daytime, you are kind of limited, some clinics are open in the evening are staffed by doctors that work in hospitals in the daytime, or trek into town to a private hospital and avoid the wait times of a government hospital. I had some mosquito bites that had became infected, we were on our way to RAM KKC and thought we would just stop at the Anamai. Yes, they could help, she asked my wife lots of questions about where we were living, etc - you know village people know everything. She noticed I was happy to babble on in Thai - then she gave me some antibiotics. When we asked to pay, she said there was a process for foreigners, but she didnt know where the forms were and tbh, it was more trouble than it was worth, so sent me on my way, all sorted for free. Our anamai is just a small concrete building, one doctor, one receptionist and two treatment rooms, but the one in the next village is like a small hospital. If I was the OP I would just take the girl to the local private hospital, the charge isnt likely to be so great. Stating at 1000B or something.

Thai Licence/International Driving Permit Insurance.
recom273 replied to Jumbo1968's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
I know of a bike rider who was asked by the insurance company to provide copies of license and passport, he sent an IDP and copy of the valid passport pages and they refused to pay out, due to the 3 month rule. I wouldn’t want to dismiss any statements from any poster either way, I would just get a Thai license. I did a course for drivers in Khon Kaen a couple of months back - there was no sight test even tho the school had the reaction test machine, colours on the wall and traffic lights - we were issued with a certificate which we took straight to DLT, they took out photo and that was it. 2500B. I liked it, there was no pretense by the school, most people vanished after the practical test and came back to scan in at 2 hour intervals - better than the DLT busting your balls in some charade of a driving license examination. -
Simple device to monitor the local internet?
recom273 replied to OneMoreFarang's topic in IT and Computers
Yes, ideally you would run the monitor software on a remote server that doesn’t suffer from power outages or regular LOS, maybe some cheap VPS. The server would ping your router at regular intervals, I ping my company server every 60 seconds. When there is no response, then you get a notification on your phone, I just discovered the software I suggested can even use LINE messenger to send you that notification, I usually use discord because I generally have LINE notifications switched off. -
Simple device to monitor the local internet?
recom273 replied to OneMoreFarang's topic in IT and Computers
I use a thing called uptime Kuma - there are other things like uptime robot, to monitor my companies server at a glance. We haven't had issues for a long time, so I cant even remember how I did it and what I was trying to achieve, (I think I was trying to collect the data and learn about grafana) but there are blogposts on how to monitor your connection. https://community.oh-lalabs.com/t/monitor-internet-connection-uptime-kuma/2235 I get discord notifications when the server is down, you can use other paid services like pushbullet when your ISP is down or here's something about home assistant. https://techstuff.leighonline.net/2023/03/26/send-uptime-kuma-webhook-notifications-to-home-assistant-that-is-behind-cloudflare-zero-trust/ However, means you will probably need to run the software on a pi or some kind of server somewhere, sorry. -
Why would there be any consequences? The signal from the WAN passes to the ONT, which is then converted and travels down the ethernet cable, as soon as it does that, it's in your network. Any outgoing from your network joins 3BB network at the ONT. I think the fact that they cannot connect to the router is very important, I have heard from people on AIS that the ISP can directly access the supplied router, and another post here that 3BB put his supplied router into Bridge mode remotely. like wt? I have nothing to hide in my router, my router works faster that theirs and its just VLAN, firewall rules and a reverse proxy on one forwarded port, but its none of the ISPs business, and I wouldn't want things failing because of some OTA update or reset.

I found another documentary, channel 4 - The Accused : National treasures on Trial. I wasn’t too aware of these accusations on Neil Fox and Paul Gambocinni at the time. I vaguely remember Cliff Richard being accused, but knew nothing of the outcome. Maybe worth checking, filmed during the trials but not released until August ‘22 https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2022/aug/24/the-accused-national-treasures-on-trial-review-cliff-richard-operation-yewtree
