but its really sad, isnt it? It's like holding doors open for people. It's that brief moment where someone does something so small but can mean a lot.

I haven't done this in years, I think since I had experiences like yours. Giving the people the "odd" thinking you are helping isnt really part of the culture here.

Maybe .. maybe the whole dynamic shifts, maybe it's not the UK that we know it, who knows? whatever happens has happened before, no path is really set in stone. If things had of continued, we could have all been living our lives under Cromwells Puritanical law. I have read a couple of articles suggesting the downfall of christian nations, it's quite a biased opinion. However, Maybe in the future being a muslim nation may not be seen as such as an issue, maybe right wing politics will not exist any longer, people will not identify by their religion, they will accept people are people.I don't know or particularly care tbh.

The BBC story is laughable, this is the kind of junk that Farage repeats and his followers accept without question, and repeat - yes, statistically Mohammed may well be the most popular name in the UK - it could be that the country is being over run with muslims, which isnt quite true but it also demonstrates UK residents chose their names from a wider and more diverse pool, whereas the 31% of non-UK mothers who may be muslims still chose to name their babies after the most important person in their religion. I think if you conducted this survey over the muslim world you would find a much higher percentage. In my own class register, most kids in my classes that I teach have either Mohammed or a condensed or derived form as either their first or second name. Laughable really, just the kind of crap Tommy ten names would cite as empirical fact that the UK is being over run by muslims.

Reliable website for YouTube MP4/MP3 downloads
recom273 replied to simon43's topic in IT and Computers
Not websites, tbh, there is only one reason a free site like this exists, to mine your data. You could try these, they are apps that you can use on your machine. Tubedigger - https://www.tubedigger.com/download.html or YT-DLP which is command line https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp https://ytdlp.online these will also cap BBC player downloads which you can access via a VPN. The YT-DLP is probably the actual code that a lot of the websites you have been looking at use, they just put a paywall and GUI around it. If you are using a Mac - an app called Downie. -
K bank E-mail with Tax Forms attached ?

I have a friend who lives a nice existence on the coast in Bang Saphan, he is not aware of Aseannow, doesn’t belong to any expat facebook groups, he does as I do, when he sees a Thai expat blogger on YouTube - clicks “not interested - don’t suggest me more content like this” - he doesn’t use internet banking, he’s still young but doesn’t own a smartphone, pays cash for everything which he draws from the ATM. He didn’t receive an email from kasikorn. Are they really going to drop everyone who doesn’t respond by the 20th. I have worked in Thailand for 15 years, sometimes authorities just want a number or a photocopied piece of paper to file away - how long will it take for them to find a random number, just to stop them closing your account? Idk .. just asking. -
On show i really liked, Tehran was scheduled to appear for a third season the other day, but I didn’t see it posted online anywhere, but I didn’t look so hard. There are some good returning series in the new year, Fargo is back, Yellowjackets, Rocco Schiavone, Surface .. Wisting has a presumably xmas themed mini series coming before the end of the year.

Maybe you are referring to me - idk what I paid for, I paid for it to be delivered - even aliexpress delivers within 10 days or less now with no fuss or extra charge. I last ordered from Amazon pre-Covid, so forgive me for not knowing the procedure. I just followed the order procedure, last time I ordered the same component it came via USPS.

The wife makes her own, they are a thousand times (agreed, they are good already) better when they are still hot from the pan. Can you still buy pork scratchings in the UK? I was telling one of my students about eating brawn sandwich as a kid, I think it was when things were tight. I don’t think you can buy jellied pig brain any longer. -
Replacement Chanote Marker
recom273 replied to recom273's topic in Real Estate, Housing, House and Land Ownership
lol - we just finished building the house!! It’s fine, we each have about 1/3-3/4 Rai each - I can ignore him, but the fun thing is .. he can’t seem to let things drop. However, apparently he can’t ignore my surround sound system and for some reason his wifi network keeps on deauthenticating all the devices in his home 🤫 -

@KhunLA exactly, because he says it’s illegal. He’s confused, it’s illegal to move a post. I think this is the best idea, he is a bully, he is a money lender, and he just gets what he wants by bullying the headman or tessaban. We both know where our land starts and finishes, we built walls - lol @BritManToo because he’s accusing my guys (whoever has worked on the house over the duration of the build) of breaking it. Last week he was moaning about mud on his drive - he said he picked it up when passing my driveway. Fact that he also drove to the city and back every day to collect money is beyond him. Next he will be accusing me of making it rain or something. He’s a strange one. -
Not true, I bought something from Amazon using my kasikorn virtual debit card last week - it was initially flagged as a fraudulent transaction, I spoke to kasikorn and they said subsequent transactions will be allowed. I did notice that Amazon doesn’t use the 3 figure code on the back of the physical card to confirm purchases like most places do, I thought that was the initial issue. Also, got to say, Amazon, what a sheet show. I placed an order, the component that’s essential for my smart home, is made in Germany and the company only supply via Amazon US. I got a message 10 days later saying my goods are in the country, a couple of days later the app said my goods would be delivered by 8:00pm by a courier I had never heard of. Nothing for 3 days, I called the courier, a Chinese company with a Filipina manned helpline, was told that the package was empty and I wouldn’t get my item, order cancelled. I should have had an email from the Thai office, still no email, and I should contact Amazon. My Amazon account says I am waiting for a refund. In the meantime it suggested I purchase again which I was forced to do. I tried to contact Amazon - everything is AI, there was another option to get a callback but I skipped over that thinking I could chat with a human, seems impossible to request that now. if you can order from ali or lazada life is so much easier.

Replacement Chanote Marker
recom273 posted a topic in Real Estate, Housing, House and Land Ownership
I have a series of problems with my next door neighbor and its his intention to make my life hell, its been going on for 2 years already. He's a bully, and I presume a racist, as he goes around the village telling everyone he hates "farang". To cut a long story short, I filled an area of land, looking at the photos, unintentionally, we covered the post. then in the subsequent months we removed a little soil to expose 6 inches or so and allowed rough grass to grow up around the area. Now I have come to clear the area with a view to turfing it, my gardener pulled the grass up and started breaking up the soil with a hoe. After clearing the grass I put up a string line, (to mark a no-go area of land that belongs to the neighbour) The top of the chanote marker is broken, the post is still under the ground, there is just a metal bar reenforcement protruding above ground. I presume the elements just destroyed it, I dont think anyone worked around the area in the past. He's now going off at the wife saying our gardener has smashed the top of the post, when he was working the soil, which is not true, it was broken even before we pulled weeds. He wants us to go to the land office and get them to come and replace it. Does anyone have any experience in this? Does the land office come around and replace the post? I read a couple of Thai sites and they said that some times the land office will ask to see a picture and decide, but I dont want to waste my time sitting there for a couple of hours if the answer is "that's ok, the post is under the ground." The post is touching his boundary wall, my wall is in line with the marker, there is a gap, the same distance as the post for the length of the garden. The is no confusion, he built his wall first before I built the land, the post hasn't been moved and we have had a visit from the land office when we combined some chanotes and they remeasured the plot. Its all rather unnecessary tbh. tldr - does the land office go around replacing chanote markers that have minimal damage? -
The first series are great, later series take a dive - last one wasn't too bad, I wish they would make another series of King Gary - I found that as funny as'

Warranty case Electrolux - they don't seem to care
recom273 replied to Schoggibueb's topic in General Topics
I bought a Teka oven from Boonthavorn. The thing just stopped working as it should after a year. I spoke to Teka and they said they would get someone to me within 2 months. I went a little crazy and in the end they sent some generic repair man who told me he was around the corner at 1:00 PM and finally showed up at 7:30 PM. He got sent away. Boonthavorn gave me my money back and I bought an Electrolux oven from them. This also went wrong couple of months back, rats nested in the wiring, when we were living in a rural rental. They referred us to a guy, he said he was busy, he finally showed up after 2 weeks, took away the oven and then returned it - before he left it was working, just couldn't touch it without a shock. He returned it and it and the thermistor wasn't working, it didnt turn off. When asked why, he said, he just serviced it, at a cost of 2000B, 800 which is service fee, I complained and refused to have the clown back in my house. They sent two guys from another district and they were good, took the oven away for 2 weeks. I find Electrolux on par with all other companies - in the past year we have had dealings with LG, Hitachi and Electrolux - LG were the best. If you are really unhappy, speak to Boonthavorn, they are pretty good at solving issues imho. -
Logitech MX Master 2 - Im sure 3 is better but could never come to part with 3000B +.

Bad experience teaching in Thailand
recom273 replied to bimbumbam's topic in Teaching in Thailand Forum
Sorry, I didnt read all the post but Just to say, keep on going - you got this, you just haven't found the way yet. Your experience is very similar to a lot of people. I got the boot from my first 3 jobs after a term. You will experience a lot of politics, a lot of prejudice. You are a female and that's a good thing in Thailand, you are a rare commodity and will never be without a job! You are correct, you know you shouldn't be touching kids, some teachers get away with it, these are the teachers who speak more Thai than English, who everyone mumbles about in the staff room, who run about the class not really teaching anything but make the kids laugh, they have a stamp pad with little stars and cartoon characters when they mark the kids books and TT's won't have a bad word said against them. Kindergarten is difficult, I prefer P1, the kids understand a little more. After primary schools, I went on to teach older Mathayom, classes which is alright. I then went on to teach Tech college, which was even better, there was less of the ceremonial crap and more "teaching". The older kids are more about the relationships you build. Find somewhere you feel happy. Dont' let it get you down. -

I wouldn't say I have nothing .. but if it makes you feel like you are better than me, then crack on .. What I do have is more invested in a country than a person who is renting a box in some apartment building. Doesn't make me any better or worse, but should be taken into account. Same as the OP who has kids here, im guessing he's putting them through the education system, that's a big enough commitment. Some kind of extension process based upon commitment might be more applicable I wouldn't say that that shouldn't be connected to financials but not dependant. Anyway, it won't change, too much money to be made on the side from retired folks who don't have the money in the bank and use other means.

That's a bit harsh, although I agree with you. I used to have 400K just siting there in an account but then I bought land for the wife for 1M and built her a house which has left me a little cash short, I have way more invested in than someone who says "renting is the way to go in Thailand" and just keeps 400K which is small money, in a bank account. I think the OP is saying he has kids and he choses to spend his money on a better life for his kids. not that he's a pauper. i kept more than 400K in a bank for a long time and repeated the process for several years. I have been married for nearly 20 years now, that may be an indication that i'm actually married, which the extension is for, its not called a "I have 400K in the bank extension".

Yeah, I get the repeat, repeat like I will understand if you keep on repeating one word, it’s just a Thai habit. Why not pull them all the time? I do, it’s the only way to get fluent. I also spent years teaching here, my wife isnt perfect but I’m proud everytime we visit other local expats where their wife uses some simple tense bar girl bastardized English language and then what’s worse, teaches their kids. 🤦 It’s also strange to see the old man speaking this language too, no one benefits.

My most hated line in Thailand is .. “can you add me on LINE” Do you ha’ - you can’t even finish the sentence without being interrupted with the thoughtless response of “add LINE” I do appreciate that it’s easier to use a photo, get a written request or send a location, but what happened to communication? “where is your shop” “add li..” no, can you tell me what area your shop is in because I’m driving down the road and will come and see you” - I have also lost track of the people I have sent location to and they can’t use google maps and we end up talking them in or going to collect, so how does it all make sense? I don’t worry about the loss of verbal communication, I just hate “add line” as a first line when communicating.
