  1. Sadly, more like buffaloes at a buffalo fight.
  2. There is nothing positive about arresting a naughty bloke for giving tours and educating children.
  3. The terrorist's PR people are really working well. Israel is at war with Hamas who have raped, murdered, kidnapped innocent civilians. Hamas are cowards and hide as civilians. It is difficult to tell one from the other but it is a fact that they hide, armed, in hospitals, schools and private apartments. In wars, innocent people die. Remember Dresden, Coventry etc during WWII? And Russia is murdering civilians in the Ukraine. It is planned, not accidental. No one says anything about Russia As I say - the terrorist's PR system is doing very well.
  4. Very true but we have seen a 'significant' increase in Americans since Covid has finished. In the small part of the business that we are in, we would see about 6 - 10 groups of Americans per year. Now, it is sometime that many every week or two. As you say, not a large number abut significant.
  5. You mean the farangs that have been living here tax free for decades. Paying zero taxes to the government, yet enjoying the infrastructure and the benefits that the government (and the Thai tax payers) have provided. And please do not bother to prattle on about VAT - insignificant. VAT is for things that you want, not what you have had.
  6. Incredible. I think that AN should have an 'ugh' voting icon 😱 Glad the little lass is OK now.
  7. How can you screen for drunks getting into a fight?
  8. Bloomin 'eck. Some sensible people in the government? Mind you, they are probably worried that if the people are against. then they might switch support to The People Party etc.
  9. They would loose money when a friend of mine goes to Chiang Mai. She is 40 ish kilos. Eats more then me and her husband put together. Do not ask me how she does it.
  10. This, and other scams, have been happening in Thailand - forever. Pay the builder for rebar, he uses 'coat hanger' wire. Pay for expensive waterproof cement and grout for the pool, he uses the standard non-waterproof version. Pay for expensive tiles, he uses a cheap, knock-off ones. In one case, I had to replace the whole roof including the steel supports to correct this one. The cheaper ones were a slightly different size. My son-in-law is a builder in the UK. It is not much different there.
  11. Got to love Thai politics. Openly discussing threats, bribery, blackmail and coercion to make people vote a certain way.
  12. The foreigner's action are unforgivable. It looks like he was lucky to leave the scene quickly though. The guy in the dark T shirt went to his vehicle to retrieve a weapon of some sort.
  13. For goodness sake - she broke the law. Why should she be let off? As far as I know, the overstay law applies everywhere in Thailand. Not just in Phuket.
  14. Why is it a scary policy? Maybe they do not want to fight Ukrainians and want to start a new life elsewhere. I started a new life when I came to Thailand many years ago. I could not afford to live here without working.
  15. Sorry Mrs PM. A meaningless gesture. Please take your publicity team away from a place where real people have lost their lives.
  16. And the Chinese government's only response to date is - The Chinese embassy implores against defaming Chinese firms following the collapse of an unfinished State Audit building during last week’s earthquake in Bangkok. https://aseannow.com/topic/1356867-bangkok-building-collapse-china-defends-its-companies/
  17. A very selfless little lad. Unfortunately, he paid the ultimate sacrifice. RIP hero.
  18. In Thailand, that often feels like the only option.
  19. It is only an investment. Something to brag about. Better looking and more visible than bitcoin - just. Personally, I don't wear the stuff, apart from one very small crucifix that belonged to my late wife. I think that it is a bit sad to see people walking around and wearing gold necklaces on the outside of their clothes. It also encourages theft.
  20. We have a lot of zebra crossings here on Samui. We do not have many of these signs. See below Mind you, I am not sure that they would make much difference as it seems that most signs are ignored anyway. When the hotels paint a crossing on the road, there are signs as well as a guard with a lit up baton to wave folk down. To be fair, I do see more people now stopping for crossings these days, probably due to all of the bad publicity in the press.
  21. No - from the Chinese who are operating the gold mines. I think that the article was in the BP yesterday (or Friday). Today's article in the BP is the same as this one. Unfortunately, the people of Burma, the United Wa State Army in this case, fighting the illegal military are short of money and weapons, so they let anyone with cash do what they will.
  22. With no available or economical public transport in most of Thailand, people have very little choice other riding motorbikes. Yes, it is dangerous but there is little or no alternative. Rural folk usually have zero options. So sad when it all goes wrong, as in this case.
  23. The outside shoulder space needs to be wider to accommodate breakdowns.
  24. 127 individuals heading into a private residence is a bit of a giveaway.
