  1. Puritanism was an historical phenomenon. There are plenty of people in the world at large, far beyond the shores of "Blighty" and the influence its culture, who happily evince a puritanical outlook.........even though they know nothing of Christian sectarian dissent/dispute in Britain during the 16th and 17th centuries. Certain Islamic countries are especially enthusiastic. They have their equivalents in Buddhist countries: adjective adjective: puritanical practicing or affecting strict religious or moral behavior. "his puritanical parents saw any kind of pleasure as the road to damnation"
  2. This SS is from the page with the "stay of not exceeding 90 days within any 6-month period from the date of first entry." that is under discussion. The site is not just "some embassy"......it's MOFA central : https://www.mfa.go.th/en/publicservice/questions-answers-on-thai-visa?cate=5d5bcb4e15e39c30600068d3 Is it saying that it was originally published in 2019 and then reviewed in 2022? It is often stated that there are plenty of laws in Thailand......but they are not enforced. If the rule still exists it may still be implemented?
  3. Are you questioning that the parents should be held responsible? The mother was present and presumably authorised the journey: "The three sisters had attended the event with their mother but during the wait for the prize draw, the 6 year old middle and 2 year old youngest siblings began to quarrel. Consequently, the eldest sister volunteered to take them home, riding from the event late at night with both sisters on the pillion, reported KhaoSod."
  4. "I feel that religion is like defecation: best done in private and without drawing unnecessary attention to it." https://richarddawkins.net/2012/10/how-tolerant-do-we-have-to-be/
  5. What minors are for you is entirely irrelevant as far as Thai law is concerned. Age of majority is 20 in Thailand. Most countries in the world, including most in the West, it's 18. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Age_of_majority
  6. The guy is clearly a time-served oaf. Don't waste your energy.
  7. Yep.......even though two people, on the first page , pointed out that the thread was about Agoda charging the hotel, not the guest, commission!!
  8. This will get you started: https://www.indeed.com/career-advice/career-development/product-naming https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikola_Tesla
  9. When you get told you have six months to live you calculate how much you will need to have a pleasant assisted death after 5 months. Whats left you spend at a measured rate or in a big blast in the last few weeks before your planned departure.......or a mixture of both. Problem is that when they tell you how much longer you've got it's only an average for your particular ailment.......so there is the possibility you could snuff it as you leave the consulting room........or five minutes after you finish reading this. "Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think Enjoy yourself, while you're still in the pink The years go by, as quickly as you wink Enjoy yourself, enjoy yourself, it's later than you think" "Enjoy Yourself", The Specials “The man who dies rich, dies disgraced.” Andrew Carnegie
  10. I enjoyed living there. I enjoy visiting there. I don't "love everything" about it. The Pattayaphobics have issues that are nothing to do with Pattaya per se. Here's one now: Ignore them.
  11. Welcome to the world of "The Thaiger".
  12. It's all out there, if you just.........Google. Locations/budget allocations were announced in September. Budget allocations increased by just over 7% since then.
  13. Why are you babbling on about farmers? Just because the photo shows some harvesters? They do not own the farms they harvest on......they are itinerant farm labourers, which is not the same as being a land owning/renting farmer who qualifies for subsidy/compensation. Informal labourers have to wander around the country looking for any work that's going......anything from a few days to a few months on building sites, in warehouses, factories and, when the seasons right, they get agricultural work. And the rice harvesting is dying off because more farmers are paying for these to do the work:
  14. This is the view from the hotel entrance (on the left) that the video shows. Looking in the direction from which the p/up approached. The next turning on the right is 210 metres away: I do not believe the MC was preparing for a right turn or was encroaching near to the middle of the road or in any way upon the p/up. In fact it looks to be moving to the left of the road (avoiding action) in the last frames before it goes from view. I believe the p/up driver lost control of the vehicle (50-100 metres away) due to excessive speed and was in mid spin when it crossed to the wrong side and hit the 2 MCs. The only reason the driver "was waiting at the scene for authorities" was that he was in no fit state to do otherwise.
  15. "What makes this act even more remarkable is Peerapat’s family background. His father, Mr. Wiraphong, is a firefighter at the Laem Chabang Port, while his mother is a rescue worker. His grandfather, too, has a distinguished career as a firefighter." Which makes it as "remarkable" as anyone else following in a family tradition. That is to say.......not very remarkable at all. Given his "heritage" it would have been far more "newsworthy" had he become a pyromaniac .
  16. He didn't highlight those places. See my post preceding this one.
  17. But you didn't take those photos. They are the work of Ilya Varlamov, who paid the price for showing the world the true glory of Putins Russia: "On 23 May 2023, he was declared a "foreign agent" by the Ministry of Justice of Russia." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ilya_Varlamov Looks like he got out https://www.instagram.com/ilyavrlmv/?hl=en
  18. PS You might be tempted to conclude that the government, lending to bad credit risks at a higher than market interest rate, is acting like a loan shark. I would not dispute that.
  19. These loans are for people with "registered debt".........bank debt. It is highly unlikely that they took the loans out with loan sharks. The repayments work out at 9% pa. K-Personal loan from Kasikorn starts at 8.28% pa so the scheme is not such a great deal. This is a scheme to help people who got their loans from banks........people who were, allegedly, "creditworthy": "The loans are aimed at those with good credit standing" ......who have already demonstrated that they are a bad credit risk! The banks won't lend them any more but the government will. It does nothing for those who were unable to get a loan from a bank, the poorest people......they are the people being exploited by loan sharks. The government gives not a **** about them.
  20. 500k of it wasn't hers: "Rungrat clarified that she lost 700,000 baht in total which 500,000 baht was borrowed from the Teachers’ Saving Cooperative and 200,00 baht was her mother’s savings."
