  1. My friend was visiting me from the UK, and trapped his finger in the gate. It was quite nasty, and his GF took him to the local private hospital. When they discovered he had travel insurance, they went to town on him. He had every treatment under the sun, including an overnight stay, which he refused. His bill was 13,000 baht, and they told him to return every day and have the dressing changed for 800 baht each time. I insisted she take him to the local clinic for a dressing change, and they charged him 100 baht. I went to see a local ENT doctor as I had an ear infection. He confirmed the infection and prescribed me 5 different antibiotics. I went home and researched which one was most effective for ear infections, and just took that one. The infection cleared in a few days
  2. With Wise, when sending money, you have to choose a reason, so scroll to the bottom, and there is an option for 'funds for long-term stay in Thailand'. This option may take longer, but it shows as an international transfer. They also now offer a foreign transaction receipt
  3. I have a DTV now and never deal with the immigration office. I'm fortunate that I live near the border, so I go and have lunch in Vientiane instead.
  4. It is not a legal wedding but just a temple blessing. Legal weddings can only take place at an Amphur. She was previously married with children, and they paid an enormous sin sod. What a pair of idiots. It says the men are close friends.....mmmmmmm how close? 😁 This could be more than a ménage à trois
  5. A bar girl once told me that the girls have a famous saying, "all farangs leave their brains at the airport"
  6. I'm only 6 months into a new relationship, so I'm only just getting to grips with her cooking and eating all the time. I don't eat breakfast either (worst meal of the day), and she struggles to understand that, but she is the most loving and caring woman I've ever been with. We are together 24/7 and genuinely don't like to be apart. She told me when we first met that it is easy to find a good-looking girlfriend in Thailand, but much harder to find a good woman. She's a hairdresser, so I don't need to pay for a haircut now. Me 70, her 47 years old
  7. My office in Nakhon Sawan has the same sign on the wall: 'No gifts allowed'
  8. Your best option is the LTR, if you qualify, because I believe you are tax-exempt on that visa, and unlike the DTV, you do not need to leave every 180 days.
  9. Why don't you look at getting a DTV? It lasts for 5 years with minimal dealings with immigration (one 90-day report every visit, assuming you stay 90 days), and you get to stay for 6 months each visit. You don't need to keep any money in Thailand.
  10. Last year I read an article online from a study completed by one of Thailand's universities. It said the WHO recommends no more than 6 teaspoons of sugar a day, but in Thailand, the average is 24.
  11. Carbs: 16 grams, sugar: 4 grams, but worst of all, 0.5 grams of trans fats
  12. Yes, but the headphones must be of good quality. Most modern TVs have Bluetooth capability, so you don't need a long cable. I connect mine to my Fire TV Stick (it supports Dolby Atmos), and I find this method very useful when travelling, plus I can't hear my GF snoring. 🤣 My Samsung soundbar does have a setting for amplifying the dialogue, but I didn't find that it helped much.
  13. If you exit MRT into the mall and exit the mall at the rear, there is a free shuttle to Shoppes, but if you drive, there is ample free underground parking.
  14. You mean the UK, and Trump is half Scottish. United Kingdom OilSummary Table Barrels Global Rank Oil Reserves 2,754,685,000 #30 in the world Barrels per day Global Rank Oil Production 1,083,928 #19 in the world Oil Consumption 1,583,896 #15 in the world Daily Deficit −499,968 Oil Imports 797,631 Oil Exports 620,188 Net Imports 177,443
  15. That's because the object he hit was not heavy. It does not suggest a low-speed impact.
  16. It's a leading Euro and African comms company. I don't think CP have anything to do with it, unless it is a new setup.
  17. I use Boeing Parking near Suvarnubhumi Airport. Covered parking and 24-hour security. I pay about 1000 baht a month, plus 100 baht for drop off and collection.
  18. Unfortunately, type 3 USB cables and sockets do not always have the blue colouring, but they will have the S/S SuperSpeed marking. It's a shame because the blue is so easy to spot. They could also use different colours for 3.1 and 3.2, but they rarely do.
  19. A few years ago, while in Jomtien, my son wanted to see the dolphin show, so I looked online for tickets, and was surprised to see residents with a Thai pink ID or DL get the same entrance price as Thais. That's how it should be everywhere. One price for residents and one for tourists.
  20. This whole situation started when the government decided to amend the existing tax laws due to Thai citizens earning large sums of money offshore (online earnings) and bringing them onshore tax-exempt. For some reason, the entire expat community thought it was an exercise to tax our pensions/earnings. The amendment, effective from January 1st, 2024, means that any untaxed money you bring onshore is liable for tax, regardless of the tax year in which you earned that money. If you are an expat, that applies to you after you have spent 180 days in Thailand in any tax year. If you are not employed in Thailand, do not have any investments (stocks and shares) in Thailand, and do not bring untaxed money onshore, then your tax liability will be minimal to zero. The money expats spend in the community is worth far more to the Thai economy than some small change tax.
  21. I always top up my Rabbit card using my Thai DL, so it looks like I'll have to take my passport next time.
  22. I'm sure Udon Utd have friends in the BiB that can sweep this under the carpet
