Bangkok plans cycling lanes to ease congestion in key districts
josephbloggs replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Yeah. I got a puncture once when I was maybe 2kms in. Had to call the truck of shame. When I finally got picked up and had to drive the whole loop back to the start you can feel eyes on you and people thinking "wow, he gave up early!". -

It is superb. 24 kms, three rest stations along the way if you need them. It is so well built and so well organised, and pleasant: birds, lizards, I've seen the odd snake and, erm, lots of planes. It is incredible that this facility is completely free (if you take your own bike). You can also rent them there, 440 baht for a good quality hybrid, up to 880 baht (I think) for a 300-400k thb carbon road bike. The first time you go you need to register for Znap which is an RFID wrist band that gives you access and also that you can add money to to pay for stuff (food, drinks, bikes). You will need your passport for this. But after you have your Znap you keep it forever and never need show ID again. Also to note that it is entirely cashless so you can pay for stuff either by Znap or by QR scan. Final note: it can be really hard work. There is no shade, and because it is parallel to active runways you will be riding into the wind for a good 11-12kms on each circuit. And that wind can be STRONG. Two loops is enough for me. Also if you go early morning or early evening you will see hundreds of Thai cyclists riding millions of bahts worth of high end machinery. The gear on show is unbelievable and hundreds and hundreds of people. So the people on here who said Thais don't ride knows nothing at all. Conversely if you go in the daytime it'll be pretty empty, but also almost unbearably hot. -

Yep, still there and still a great place to ride. If taking your own bike there is a larger boat (can take motorcycles) from Bang Na Pier. Or you can get the rickety boat from Wat Khlong Toei Nok pier. 10 baht each way (if I remember correctly). Like you say you can get your own bike on but at the pier on the other side where you get off the boat there is a massive rental shop. 100 baht gets you a decent hybrid bike and a free bottle of water. I think a rickety one with a basket on the front is something stupid like 30 baht but definitely go for the hybrid. It's a really great and super cheap day out and hard to believe you are so close to the middle of Bangkok. Very pleasant indeed. -
Not bitter at all. I just think it's hilarious that out of a country of over 300m (and some of them are quite intelligent) the best they can do is to replace one doddering old mentally challenged weirdo with another one, and one that is also a misogynist, a liar, a criminal, and a borderline racist. I'll just sit here and watch the lunacy unfold.

Er, what are you on about exactly? You have lost the plot and are making things up now. Trying reading my posts. I said people should have a right to do what they chose: private education, private hospitals, whatever they want. Just pay for it and don't whine about it. So again, what are you on about?

Early Check-In Coming to Suvarnabhumi Airport by February

When have you ever queued for hours?? -
Yes, and if my kids' school fees went up by 20% here I might change schools too. The difference is in the UK you have a perfectly good state system to put them in for free, one that is going to be significantly better funded under Labour. Don't tell me you really believe that. Carrdus school (the one in trouble because of the pesky VAT) is £5,350 PER TERM!! And these are little kids (year 3 to year 6). Then there are the extras. But no, it's not for the rich. Who is paying £5,350 per term for 7-11 year olds unless they are well off? I have nothing against the rich by the way, I am all for them. I don't care much for people who have generational wealth but for self made people I have total respect, and if they want to put their children through private education they should have that choice. As they should have the choice of private medical cover. Or what car they drive. Or how big their house is. And if they can afford a yacht or a private jet all the better for them - go for it. But don't come out with ridiculous comments to support your made up mind. Private education is mostly for the rich in the UK. End of.

That remains to be seen. Honestly I just find it ridiculous how many people on here are up in arms - immediately - with knee jerk reactions about EVERYTHING! Like every Tory budget for the last 14 years was innately fair or warmly welcomed by absolutely everyone and everyone benefitted, got richer, and enjoyed better services. We know that is not the case. Labour have vowed to increase the education budget by BILLIONS. To hire 6,500 new teachers, and increase teacher salaries. Increase spending on SEND. These are the biggest increases in years. I think it's great. That money can't be plucked from thin air. Most private schooling is for the rich. And - it turns out - for the army, who knew. If a stately home with a measly 100 pupils in Oxfordshire has to close because of it (debatable) then boo hoo. They can get absorbed in to the more highly funded state school system if their parents don't want to pay. 95% of kids do just fine there. Sorry, I have more concern for the millions of children who may now get a better quality of education exactly because of this budget. Don't you? You think it's possible to dream up money and give it to everyone? Or you think posh schools should get preference over state schools?

What about all the people paying taxes which go towards prisons they have never used? Or hospitals they have never visited? Or roads they have never used? You can't pick and choose which taxes you pay for what. If I don't use the M62 do I get a partial tax refund? No, but my taxes contribute towards its upkeep and rightly so. I never go to the local park to look at the flowers. Should I get a tax reduction as I don't go to the park to look at the flowers or feed the ducks? So what exactly if people are paying taxes to schools they don't use? That is a choice, just like my choices to avoid the M62 and not feed ducks, I should still pay taxes towards them regardless because taxes are for society.

Yeah, all one hundred of them. Sorry, one hundred pupils in a historic stately mansion, and 11-12 days after the budget is announced it has gone under. So it was managed exceedingly well before that and the closure is all the government's fault. Maybe try putting 100 pupils in a more reasonable space rather than a historic stately home with acres of grounds. Just a thought. It is hilarious all the articles coming out from the Mail and Telegraph just days after the budget. But yeah now the government will have to re-school this massive amount of people, how will the system cope?

Yeah, I find his channel as annoying as the shouty all caps anti Chinese EV propaganda ones. His is an annoying pro EV shouty all caps channel, although better informed. Still find him annoying though and don't watch his videos anymore.

Not that simple in the US as you need to still go through the electoral college system. They have to appoint electors (by mid December), then they have to vote, then the votes need to be counted which goes to early Jan. Only then has he officially "won". Inauguration Day used to be in March but the 1933 amendment moved it to 20th January. I do agree though that it is a stupidly long time between public vote and office transfer. In the UK (if no hung parliament) it is usually done within 24 or 48 hours.
