  1. I am a big fan of electric mass transit and think all major cities should have a good network. but I don't see the point of this. It's useless for tourists as it won't go near the main beaches (for obvious reasons - the mountains).
  2. Anyway thanks for sharing something informative. Wondering though why they say CVTs can be found in SUVs and show a picture of an EX30 which obviously doesn't have one. And then they say they are found in Subaru WRX's. Anyone who buys a WRX and specs a CVT deserves to be shot. As a previous WRX owner that thought is horrifying. Manual or nothing. I have a Honda HR-V with a CVT and I hate it. The technology is good, but the experience is awful. Soulless. Droning. Boring.
  3. I am not normally one for pulling people up on grammar, but that was just a wall of text and almost impossible to read. Just trying to give a tip to break it up.
  4. Yes, but they can also perfectly well arrest people on the spot without one. Do you think they go to court to get arrest warrants every time they need to arrest someone?
  5. Yes, it is, a pleasant environment, and how many other urban mega cities have opened up huge new parkland in the middle of the city? Bangkok has many faults but this is a success. And I am sure they will keep up maintenance. In my experience all the parks in Bangkok are meticulously maintained.
  6. Do you get a kick out of being miserable and negative on every single positive story? What a sad life.
  7. This tiresome old gem again. Te NL has about 30-40% of Thailand's rainfall and it is pretty evenly spread throughout the year. ie. it is inconsequential. Thailand gets about 2.5-3 times the NL's annual rainfall and it generally happens over 4-5 months with the rest being bone dry. In a bad month the NL may get 80mm of rain. Thailand can easily get more than that in a day! Dump Thailand's rain on the NL and see how their flooding is. Conversely, give Thailand and its infrastructure the NL's weather and you would never even step in a puddle. Not saying the NL doesn't have good systems - they do. But compare apples with apples. Oh, and just waiting for someone to come along with the myth that Thailand rejected the NL's offer of expert help.
  8. You don't need a court proceeding to arrest someone. Do UK police go to court before arresting people?
  9. And how many fires? Must have been loads.
  10. No, electric is going underground in most places too.
  11. They don't have an "engine". And it is fine to leave the AC running in one - it has marginal effect on the battery. I think you don't understand the massive energy packed in to an ICE battery pack. You can charge an iPhone more than 50 times for around 1% of charge of a typical EV.
  12. Stand behind one for a while then come back here. Filthy, smelly, disgusting - that is undebatable.
  13. Yes, Toyota make excellent - if very uninspiring and dull - cars. Not since the late 80's / early 90's have they produced anything fun or interesting. Back in those days I loved the crazy Japanese sports cars: and Toyota's Celica GT4 and Supra were fantastic and I badly wanted one. (Never got one) The new Supra looks quite cool though. I have owned one Toyota and while it was perfectly good I wouldn't buy another one. Insipid to drive, just incredibly dull. I have owned a Lexus IS250 and that was a great car. Actually quite fun - rear wheel drive, V6, and beautifully appointed. So their quality is good, no questions. I just think they bet on the wrong horse this time and which is why they are investing heavily in lobbying to maintain their market position. The Western press do slant these things. I don't know anything about Teslas in the US - but their infrastructure is not great, plus their cars are not great either. But in the EU it is more complex than that. There is currently an issue in Europe of cars not being moved out of ports quickly enough (Brussels is the central entry point) but the shipping companies put this down to a shortage of trucks and drivers and it is affecting all imports, not just Chinese cars. The Chinese, however, are at a disadvantage as hauliers prioritise regular clients, rather than new ones. https://www.ft.com/content/496f3bfa-9f0c-4145-9024-188572a280fd Pretty balanced article really. But others slant that news to say Chinese are dumping EVs or they are in port because they are not selling any.
  14. Yeah, let's just give up on everything, great idea. Yawn.
  15. Currently. But it remains to be seen long term if EV adoption continues. The more successful EVs become the less successful Toyota will become - it is inevitable as they are years behind hence their investment in PR and lobbying against EVs. Time will tell.
  16. Not likely. They haven't even started to look at fixing it yet as the area is too volatile currently. I use a UK VPN for a lot of things (streaming iPlayer for example) and didn't notice anything until the second break happened in the Malacca straights. I guess they were rerouting traffic a different way to get around the Red Sea break, but when that backup also broke things started crawling. I think the Malacca one will be fixed soon so hopefully that will improve things as currently it is very frustrating and I have given up trying to stream anything from the UK.
  17. Yes, that's because of the Red Sea cable damage as posted above. It affects traffic between Asia and Europe. Asia to the US is unaffected.
  18. No, you're wrong. Any diesel SUV is bothersome to people in range of the fumes - they are filthy and disgusting. Let me guess, you drive a Fortuner?
  19. It is not True's fault. In March around 15 undersea cables were cut in the Red Sea and that's disrupting traffic between Europe and Asia. They still haven't been repaired. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-68478828 Then last month another cable was cut between Malaysia and Singapore so this is making things even worse. Lots of existing threads on AN about this.
  20. I doubt Thailand can pull it off - they would need massive investment in stadia and how would they be used afterwards? But the last truly Asian host was Japan-Korea in 2002 and until the current batch are done in 2034 (Saudi) there won't be another one. So 2038 is 32 years since the last Asian host and it is surely due. (They count Qatar and Saudi as being Asia but I don't). People thought Japan-Korea was a ridiculous choice but they pulled it off - I was there and it was fantastic. Could Thailand do it? The only thing in their favour is good infrastructure but not good venues. But 14 years is a long time to get it together. A long and unlikely shot though unless they collaborate with other countries. Thailand-Vietnam-Malaysia perhaps? That would be awesome.
  21. Yes I am, I have better things to do. It is a minor irritation that necessitates me pressing on "debit" on my phone screen when I want to make an online payment. It takes me three seconds. As I said I can live with that. If I happen to go to the bank for something else (that happens maybe once a year, max) I'll ask them, otherwise I'll live with it.
  22. Nah, it's big enough of a deal to warrant a trip to the bank - I can live with it.
  23. Thanks, but I don't have any option like that. The closest thing is "preferred account" but that is greyed out as I only have one account.
  24. Yeah, I have been through all the settings but can't see anywhere to select a default. Weird that it defaults to credit card when I don't have one.
