  1. Must be a second hand showroom of some sort. Here's the same car on the road. Either very sad or he/she's got a very good sense of humour. I suspect the former though. This guy is obviously richer because his is a C250! Some odd people out there. The guy in the house opposite me is one such case, he has a BMW 520d but has stuck an M5 badge on it. It's just sad.
  2. That looks like an official pop up showroom in a shopping centre? Where did you take the picture? Have they really stuck a Merc badge on an MG5?? Surely that is Photoshopped? It can't be an official MG pop up. If it is real, whoever did it is a very sad person.
  3. These people really do do a fantastic job in very difficult conditions. I admire them.
  4. Yeah, it is still weird to see the trees so bare after they're cut but once I learnt why they do it and what benefits it brings to the tree then I'm ok with it.
  5. This is correct. I have been here nearly 30 years and used to be absolutely horrified at how they cut the trees right back. But there is method to it and they do grow back very quickly and in a better shape, especially here in the tropics. I had always assumed this was just a Thai thing, but one time I was back in the UK in the summer I also saw them doing exactly the same thing which led to me researching the practice and it is normal. There is even a word for it - pollarding - and it is a recommended practice for certain types of trees. From Google AI: Pollarding is a pruning technique that involves cutting a tree's upper branches to promote the growth of a dense head of foliage and branches. It's often used in urban areas to keep street trees from growing too large and to prevent them from blocking the view of pedestrians and motorists. Here are some benefits of pollarding: *Keeps trees healthy and safe Pollarding helps prevent trees from outgrowing the space they have available. *Promotes vigorous re-growth Pollarding encourages young re-growth from the stumpy branches of the tree. *Can improve the appearance of trees Some trees, like the London plane and lime tree, have a more formal appearance after being pollarded. *Can create wildlife habitats Pollarding can create habitats for wildlife. To the OP @Tercera_Edad and the Thai bashers in the thread, live and learn. Those people actually know what they're doing.
  6. More good news just now. Nine years for violent disorder, possession of an offensive weapon (a police baton) and arson with the intent to endanger life - all of which he pleaded guilty to. It's notable that he has previous convictions for criminal damage, attacking emergency workers, and racially aggravated harassment, and the judge said he had a ""white supremacist mindset". He also said he was clearly a "dangerous offender". It's good to see these obscene, racist knuckledraggers facing serious consequences for their horrendous actions. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/c9d18449ye4t I am sure JonnnF will be along to mumble about how he was just protecting the kids, something about two tier Kier, and some other cliched nonsense.
  7. Thank you Sheryl. Costs are manageable (350k baht) but it wouldn't matter the cost to be honest, I would find a way. She feels comfortable with hm and will have the surgery on Thursday next week. Fingers are crossed. Thanks again for your help and input.
  8. His name is KITTIPHAT THONGLEK, M.D.
  9. Useless anecdotal evidence here but I went to the supermarket this afternoon and counted 13 full EVs in the car park. Dolphins, Seals, Attos, A Good Cat, an MG Maxis, a couple of Teslas, a couple of Deepals and a Lotus Eletra. I couldn't be arsed counting the number of cars but I reckon is was close to 20% EV.
  10. @Sheryl So she had the CT scan and they say 99% it is cancer. They can schedule a surgery for Monday. I am not sure what is the best course of action, put our trust in Vibharam as they can move quickly? Or I see Dr Kittinut Kijvikai is available Saturday, do you think it is worth talking to him first? Our guts say just go for the operation on Monday.
  11. Thank you, much appreciated. Her first port of call on the Universal Health program is Kluaynamthai Srinakarin and then they will redirect her to somewhere else depending on the need. And yes she is Thai. She went to Vibharam this morning and will have a CT scan this afternoon to find out exactly what it is then we will take it from there. She said the doctor she consulted with was very kind, explained all the things it could be etc. At Samitivej she said they just scared her and pressured her to get an immediate MRI scan followed by surgery. I will let you know the results when we find out. I guess the next course of action will depend on the severity of what they discover.
  12. God this site has some depressing people on it, nothing better to do than moan and complain on every thread. If you would prefer to queue up at immigration that is up to you (and it would give you something to moan about - bonus!). But if filling out an online ETA means you can use auto gates on arrival then why is that a bad thing? Do you have an actual answer for that? Why is it inconvenient? Thai Pass was for Covid. I don't know if you noticed but Covid restrictions were dropped several years ago. So you think they should keep Covid measures in place long after Covid restrictions were lifted? Yet you complain about inconvenience....
  13. Hi Sheryl, Here is the report. I also have 15 ultrasound images downloaded from the Samitivej app. I can send them by PM if it would help to see them. 15 images to manually delete personal info from is a bit much but happy to send them unedited by PM if it helps - I have absolutely no idea which ones may be relevant but at least these are of the kidneys this time. Thanks again in advance.
  14. Sorry, maybe I copied the wrong bit, maybe I'll just scan the entire page and just black out personal information. I wasn't sure on the ultrasound as they didn't look like kidneys to me but that is all they gave her. Will check the report again when I get home. Sorry for the confusion. You can delete my earlier misleading post if it helps.
  15. Hi Sheryl, Attached is the summary of the finding and also the ultrasounds (sorry not sure if all are relevant or not). Many thanks.
  16. Yes, and also when your country has a fraction of the annual rainfall of Thailand and that rainfall is pretty much spread evenly over the whole year and not basically concentrated in a few weeks as it is here. Put Thailand's rain in the Netherlands and watch it sink. Conversely put the Netherland's weather here and you would never get your feet wet.
  17. I just completed this quiz. My Score 50/100 My Time 81 seconds
  18. I think we need a @Crossy river level thread starting for 2024. I always appreciate them and find them informative.
  19. Haven't been for a couple of years now but I usually stay at Picasso Suites in Makati. Good value (for Manila). Really big rooms with working space - they used to be apartments before they got converted to a hotel. Good location, walking distance to Green Belt and also Burgos if that floats your boat. Also there is a fantastic Spanish tapas restaurant and bar called Pablo Bistro that adjoins the hotel that you can access from the lobby. https://www.picassomakati.com/ https://awesome.blog/2023/02/pablo-the-best-spanish-bistro-in-salcedo.html Oh, no swimming pool though.
  20. Yes, 40,000 baht. You are sad and boring, move along, not joining in with your childish argument any more.
  21. Thank you Sheryl. My wife just got home. I will scan the relevant parts tonight and post here, appreciate your knowledge and help.
  22. Hi all, Does anyone have any recommendations for good affordable MRI places in Bangkok? My wife just had an annual check up and they found some kind of growth on her kidney and say she needs to have an MRI. They will charge 37,000 baht (Samitivej Srinakarin) which she doesn't want to pay (and it does seem excessive). Google has led me to this place which seems to be rated. https://mrithailand.com/en/ Anyone have any experience or other recommendations?
  23. but but but people on AN say foreigners are always treated worse. But but but but......
  24. I have no idea what that means, Mine was never credited back to me in several years. Anyway I just said it was a rip off and their concierge / travel service was useless and a waste of time. If it works for you then great. It doesn't change my point though that your post was only intended to show off and was of no use to the OP at all. Unless you were suggesting his best option to find cheaper flights was to qualify for Amex Platinum, apply for it, get approval, receive the card, pay the 40k baht annual membership, then call their help line to book a flight for him. Great advice. But no, not just showing off.
