All those who understand the culture in this land, they were all waiting, and all survived. They understand the lack of enforcement of traffic laws here, combined with the selfishness of the locals who will try to save some seconds... The locals here understand that, because that is what they want, as everybody here will want to avoid the frustration of having to wait a minute because they just missed a green light by a few seconds. That is what the people want here, and that is why traffic laws are not enforced. So they wait some 5 seconds or more before they go through a green light, because they also do not like that frustration when it happens to them. It is a social agreement, this Ukrainian man was unaware of that so it appears....

Re-posting this one here... Seems like you might need this knowledge as well..... "Well yes, in this land, situations are mostly related to money and territory. I am located in Phuket, and there are many Agents who offer a service of dealing with an IO on a customer behalf, for a fee. And this fee is shared between the Agent, and at a very high level at the IO, then further shared... And strangely, some of the Agents are able to conduct their business directly with the local IO, while others go through a remote IO, such as Nakhon Sawan. Now why is that, I have no idea. Appears like Agents must be 'accredited' for the use of such a service at a given IO. And those Agents who appear to not be able to be accredited locally here, are always able to find a remote IO that is willing to offer such a service to Agents. But the consequence of getting a 'retirement extension' from a remote location, would mean that the IO doing a 90 day for example, would be required to do that 'free' work, while knowing very well that a non-local IO got a share of the money for the initial 'extension' work. Not happy with that. So some Agents who deal with a non-local IO, for whatever reason, will offer a free service of obtaining all 90 day reports from the IO that was used to obtain the 'retirement visa'. This of course would entail having to send the passport again and again through mail to obtain the 90 day stamps. Something that of course anyone would like to avoid. An IO can tell what process was originally used to obtain a service, through a quick glance at the passport. That is what they do for a living. A few seconds will do it... And to add to the complexity of this situation, once a foreigner has used an Agent, the IO will try as they can to keep this individual to keep on putting money in the system. Lots of money in there. Trying to do further 'retirement extensions' on your own, at the lower fee of course, will get you to be faced with all sorts of problems, being raised by the IO, to make the process as long and difficult as possible. With the aim of breaking you down and getting you back at an Agent's office, and paying the bigger fee. If one is intent on not paying for an Agent, make sure that your income taxes are in order in your country, make sure that your embassy will offer a service of confirming your income, and accept to be patient time and time again when you are told that "Oh, the for that you used is an out-dated one. Use this one, and come back some other day..... I was initially forced to go see an Agent, after the onset of the Covid era, with airport closed here, borders of neighboring countries closed, so not being able to leave the country to extend my OA visa, and not being able to stay in the country, as my visa would soon expire. 2019, 2020. When I explained that at the IO, I was told that there was nothing that they could do. The law was written this way. Then I was told in a whisper, go see an Agent, they will fix it up for you. And Agent, Oh yes."

Well open your eyes for a change. Otherwise I would have again to educate people on the culture here, including yourself so it appears

I never wai. I never say Khap either. I believe that these contribute to the total selfishness of this culture. Never seen people in any country as selfish as the people here. If it happens, there is a reason. So I have been looking for what is different from other cultures here. Certainly Buddhism is not the cause of this selfishness. Then I started pointing a finger at something else that could explain it....

Young transport worker dies in tragic roadside accident in Lampang
Andre0720 replied to webfact's topic in Chiang Mai News
Speed.... Speed.....Speed.... Combined to these drivers refusal to reduce speed in dangerous situations. And now their ways of driving should dictate how the infrastructures should be designed and located. It is simply that I have never even gotten close to an electrical post in all my nearly 200,000 km of motorcycle driving here... -
Fully agree. I could not believe how badly I was treated when AC left me in Vancouver, refusing to help me, after the flight from Toronto was late, and my connecting flight in Vancouver had already left. And I asked at a desk why they let me board a flight that they knew would leave me stranded in Vancouver. Simple reason, after a first segment of a flight is completed, the flight fee is cashed. No care at all about he passengers.

Here is one quote that I like: “The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.”. But then reality strikes. Most people are just not lucky. The fact that we do not have 'free will', and that we do what we learned from our surroundings, family, friends we make, people we meet, culture, society. And for many people, these surroundings just came out of some kind of bad luck. And the resulting person that we become, gets modified by our genetics, our brain wiring, that many times are just out of bad luck. Handicaps, brain limitations, education limitations, knowledge limitations, brain defects, schizophrenia, sociopathic or psychopathic tendencies, or even more simple, how people's brains are influenced by how our parents behaved with their children. It is known now that the tendency to be an intimidator, or a critical interrogator, or being aloof, or claiming to be a victim, comes from manipulation strategies used by parents while raising their children. James Redfield... And this just adds up to our lack of 'free will'. And then people are either 'extraverted', or 'introverted', which again will drive individuals in different directions. And then we can add the characteristics of people being 'visual', or 'auditive', or 'kinestetic', which will compound even more the way they will live their life with even less 'free will'. And then some people will possess the characteristic of empathy or not. Some people will never understand the notion of philanthropy, humanism, benevolence, charity, which will exclude many domains of interest. A life driven by selfishness. Which again will further remove whatever free will might have been left. Resulting in so many people appearing to want to die with as much wealth as possible. So, of course, work is definitely an option. Which we all think that we are the sole individual to decide upon, regarding what we choose, when we start, and when we put an end to it. My apologies, seems like I got carried away. What was the subject again??

This IO was certainly looking for a reason to deny you an entry. Earlier boarding passes, nobody ever asks for that, then walking away to find a better reason. Lack of funds, with no supporting documentation. Hopefully you did not sign that form. And you are in a position where you need to make him 'lose face', by contesting his decision. Can you go back to this same IO, totally apologetic that you forgot to show 'proof of funds'. They used to take brown envelopes, I do not know if this is still the case. But try appealing to him, with deep 'wai's, otherwise, you might at least be at this airport for a while... Good luck...

Anyone else hate the shirtless?
Andre0720 replied to georgegeorgia's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
What first struck me in your post, is the word 'hate'. I was reading about the Israel-Palestine conflict, and one narrative suggested that the main problem is the hate that one side had towards the other side. Should be obvious which side has that particular emotion. And I was thinking that I do not remember ever saying that I hate something, or someone. Never. Of course in some instance, I do not like something or someone. Emotion that is easily manageable. So just a thought, if you re-phrased your text, not like, instead of hate, you would certainly feel a lot better all day. Oh, my apologies, I got carried away from the topic. So yes, these shirtless people should show respect towards others, particularly Thai people, who do wear a shirt. Even though I never get close enough to them to know if their shirts are smelly or not... -
Motorbike Rider Dies after Getting Stuck Under a Minivan in Kata
Andre0720 replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
Always the same problem. Drivers going too fast. The pick-up truck driver estimated that he had time to make the turn. Three motorbike riders were able to just slow down for the truck, and the one that was going too fast, came from behind, and was unable to avoid the collision, because of the speed. Most of the time the speed is the cause.... -
Well yes, my words. I often use this word 'merit', often when I discuss the notion of 'Interest' and 'to like or not'. My son would know that I wrote something, when he sees this word. When I say for example, "It is more accurate to say that one does not know about something, rather than saying, 'I do not like something, or I am not interested in something. I used to ask people to tell me something that they know well, and do not like. After getting some startling responses, I started adding, 'something that you know well, and has merit.." It eliminates such responses as 'Violence', answer that I did get once. Now take a listen to this video of an event that happened in a small town in France....

Neighbour Held For Beating Italian Man To Death In Front Of His House
Andre0720 replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
You would have been angry. But would you have killed him??? -
Well, difficult to discuss with with someone whose response is the embodiment of blindness to facts that do not fit your narrative. So you are saying that all the Thais that react to farangs driving big bikes too fast, that they should stop looking at those farangs, and focus on Thais only, driving smaller motorbikes. Get a grip man.

Oh well, apologies. There seems to have been a problem posting, so i tried to do it again, and again. Hehe. What you refer to as 'anti-farang', which is literally putting words in my mouth, as I have never said that, comes from seeing and hearing loud large motorbikes on the roads, and when we look, it is a young farang driving. And I say 'we', because the Thai people observing this quickly agree, that these farangs are a problem. So these young farangs are making a bad impression to all. And it is a new phenomenon. When I hear a loud noise behind me, noise coming louder and louder, I have some fear that this idiot might lose control of his motorbike, as I see many times while driving. The danger on the road does come 'mostly' from young stupid farangs on large motorbikes. Even the dangerous pick-up drivers must slow down in heavy traffic, unlike the motorbikes, who get to still drive recklessly by driving around the traffic. ''Phuket reports high numbers of motorbike accidents involving tourists" https://scandasia.com/phuket-reports-high-numbers-of-motorbike-accidents-involving-tourists/ By Dec 23 the number of road deaths in Phuket accidents reached 103 cases, the number of hospital admissions hit 16,689 cases (compared to 71 deaths and 13,134 hospitalisations for year 2021). According to ThaiRSC, over 75% Phuket accidents with deaths and hospitalisations involved motorcycles. This road safety awareness video, released by Ramathibodi Hospital's Child Safety Promotion and Injury Prevention Centre (CSIP) last year, has resonated with many in Thailand, where 73 per cent of traffic-related deaths involve motorcycles. Experts said last month that, on average, 5,500 motorcyclists die annually - or 15 deaths a day. The figure continues to climb, making Thailand the world's deadliest country for two-wheelers. The issue returned to the fore this month after two separate motorbike accidents in Phuket killed a pregnant British tourist and seriously injured another British tourist.

I am not in Pattaya. But might be the same here in Phuket. The dangers on the road comes mostly from young stupid farangs. Those who drive motorbikes with motors with 350 c.c or above. I have been here for more than 15 years. This is a new problem here. These stupid people, taking advantage of the lack of police patrols on the roads, endanger people's lives. I used to not be very happy towards Thais who drove too fast, but currently, farangs have become more of a threat on the roads. If they drive cars or busses, I do not know, but if they do, I never feel threatened by cars or busses driven by anyone. Motorbikes are the problem. Farangs come here, and most of them leave their brain back home...

Thanks. Some substance that we can look at here. In the last video, the narrative indicates that immigration does have some benefits, but only when the immigration level is low, as it was some years ago. Currently, the immigration level is too high, as described, ans the result is that these newcomers cannot assimilate, as they are numerous enough to create areas in a host country where their own values dominate. And then problems between cultures arise. Douglas Murray documents this. "Douglas Murray went to Doha to have a debate about asylum-seekers. It was in a hostile crowd where everyone else believed asylum-seekers all have a right to come to Europe. The host even suggesting Britain should give up its culture if it offends immigrants." In my country, Muslims have been welcomed. But they already created their own Middle-East area, where they live all close to each other, right next to the new Mosque that they built, next to the Halal stores. And in our supermarket stores, women dressed in Burkas walk around, in this store where we used to have small baskets to buy just a few items. The baskets, that were available for as long as I remember, have disappeared, because they were all stolen, the year of the arrival of a great number of Muslims. Immigration has some benefits, when there is merit in the people that immigrate.
