  1. You are again falling back on Sophisms. At least it suggests an answer to my question, which is that you did not include philosophy as part of your studies... (Which excludes college or University. Is it right?)
  2. No offense intended. But from what you write, it would be interesting, and useful, to know your IQ and level of education... Just curious, for obvious reasons....
  3. No. Very slim actually. But why such a question?
  4. Well, you start off with a sophism, a fallacy. Which typically can be identified when one can reply: 'It is not because this or that, that a conclusion could be right'. In this instance, "it is not because YOU eat a lot of sugars and carbs, and has yet to develop health problems, that these products are then not dangerous to health." So just give it a try. It is not that complicated after all. Yes, one can eat a lot of slow acting poisons, before health can be affected. You will find the reasoning behind that in the word 'SLOW' . From Google: It is common knowledge that white-sugar is a high risk-factor for heart ailments, weight-gain, type-2 diabetes and cancer. Excess white-sugar consumption leads to frequent blood sugar spikes that stress the body's cells and increase the risk for type-2 diabetes. Why is refined sugar poisonous? Over time, this can lead to a greater accumulation of fat, which may turn into fatty liver disease, a contributor to diabetes, which raises your risk for heart disease. Consuming too much added sugar can raise blood pressure and increase chronic inflammation, both of which are pathological pathways to heart disease.
  5. The problem is actually the refined sugar. Of course, foods containing carbohydrates become glucose or blood sugar when digested, but these are no way as detrimental to health as the refined sugar. First, what you refer to as junk food, someone can eat some from time to time. But refined sugar, people in Thailand cannot eat only from time to time. Refined sugar is in all food, that they eat 3 times a day in their meals, and then added sweet snacks. Refined sugar is the poison here. I had not bought refined sugar for some 40 years or so. No refined sugar in my house. The food that I cooked then did not contain refined sugar. When I started to have some health issues, I looked for possible causes. Sugar. Then I started looking for sources of this sugar. Only to find out that all food here, yes all, contain added sugar. Even the bottled sauces from the mini-marts contain typically some 20% of added refined sugar. So I stopped completely to eat Thai food, that I now consider as a slow acting poison. When I discussed this with a fellow from my country also, I remember him saying: 'I thought that I was eating healthy'. Vegetables, chicken, rice, all sound good doesn't it? Here are two photos of refined sugar delivered to the Super Cheap mini-mart close by. Taken about 10 days apart. They do not even take the time to take the sugar inside the store... People are slowly poisoning themselves here. So no more Thai food for me.
  6. Ah these brake failures. Seem to always happen in a dangerous road, downhill, or lots of curves, or narrow, anything that require vigilance. They all claim lots of vigilance, but then the brakes, these darn brakes, they can fail... Anyone here had a brake failure, anyone?? Motorcycle, car, even bicycle... Anyone. But here, darn, seems like all the cars on this land were made in a remote rural area. Lots of savings on excise taxes...
  7. K-Pop, seems like I have been missing out on this. I will report on it later.....
  8. Would be worrisome to have people having some beer with breakfast, hoping that this would not become a new normal...
  9. I remember being robbed in Naples Italy, many years ago. My girlfriend went to our rented car in the morning to get something, came back, in a state of panic. 'The car has been broken in, she said, and everything has been taken'. I remember telling her that it was ok. She got a bit puzzled. I said hey, they stole everything, while we were sleeping. And I thank them for that, no violence. Now how come these two men could not find a way to steal a phone, without violence? Why?
  10. If he does not have the cash, does not seem to have some plastic card to charge the fine to, what is the point of starting such an ordeal?
  11. Seems to me that the ideal situation would be to get rid of over-stayers, get them out of the country, eliminate this horrible crime. But I was wrong, the objective is to give opportunities to take nice photos of officials at work. The plane was right there, waiting to take away the 'threat', and this opportunity was ignored. Wish I understood....
  12. Always amazes me to see so much participation in sport and exercise events. Many Thais are participating so it is reported. While all I see around me are men gathering to smoke cigarettes, and women gathering to eat....
  13. Just give it a try... Maybe you can at least get close to an ideal. Just like, if you put aside $500,000 for eventual medical expenses. Some $50,000, in case you get hungry. Some $50,000, in case your dwelling needs repairs. And if you still have on million dollars left, do you really think it is better to die with it, or try to enjoy it while you are still alive. Many people choose to die with it...
  14. I would think that Biden might be in a position to help in this situation... But seriously, kind of sad, but our youth will all be stolen by old age. Lost a good friend lately. He had accumulated a good amount of money, that he so difficultly spent. I remember telling him: 'Estimate the number of days you have left to live, divide your wealth by that number, and the result is what you should spend every day. If you fail to do that, your legacy will end up doing it for you. He ended up spending a bit more, but for most people in the same situation, it appears like their objective, is that when they die, that would be the day that they would have been the richest in their life... Well, he ended up achieved that... Beware...
  15. At least, most Thai women will have the heart to support their children, even if sometimes with the help of their own mother...
  16. Anybody here is surprised by this story?
  17. "when a group of teenagers returned armed with a gun and a knife," In this culture here, 'returning armed' has become more like a reflex embedded in the DNA
  18. 'Every human being has emotions but they have to control them while doing their job. " Well, that is simply just not true. Starting with the view that 'free will' does not exist. That we are the overall result of the cultural traits of where we were born and raised. So expecting that all people 'have control' of their emotions, on the job or not, is quite clearly a delusion. And some cultures are worse than others for many reasons, regarding emotional control.... https://www.latimes.com/science/story/2023-10-17/stanford-scientist-robert-sapolskys-decades-of-study-led-him-to-conclude-we-dont-have-free-will-determined-book?fbclid=IwAR36nBj-5im_PjcZXPknipzse_aYy7IIhM3x3hAM_z4AZgALakprHfAT-es We are all puppets here...
  19. And to think that many people still think that LOS means Land Of Smile. How about 'Stultified'.
  20. I used to bring 15 30 packs of 250 gr of Lavazza coffee in my luggage. My son came to visit me this year, and brought me some 15 10 kilos also of the same coffee. About 500 bahts here for 250 grams. In my country, about 75 bahts. I got checked only one time, the year i brought some 40 packs of 250 gr, and I joked so much about it with the staff who opened my luggage, that the woman in charge of immigration security just closed my luggage and told me to go. I was asking the staff if they wanted a few packs for themselves, telling them that I might have brought too much coffee for my stay. But since I got stuck for some 4 years here due to the pandemic, I ended up buying Arabica Robusta from Boncafé. Was actually fine, considering my reluctance in buying Italian coffee here, where the price is related more to excise tax rather than coffee...
  21. Most certainly the result of a misunderstanding ...😑
  22. Go see a real mechanic. Many around....
  23. Well yes, that is what I understood, he went to defend himself, But my question still stands, did he win or lose the case brought towards him?
  24. "My friend spent Christmas day that year in court defending himself. " So did your friend win or lose this case in court? Because some people with a moral compass are ready to lose a day for doing what they think is the right thing to do...
  25. "and attributed her actions to financial difficulties." With a reason like that to avoid responsibility, definitely a Thai individual....
