  1. photos and an experience? I have never been...
  2. recently watched his movie and saw him on an old episode of 'what's my line'
  3. yeah, wrong again... I have farang friends and Thai - - and my Thai is very conversational.. just because you can't do something doesn't mean others can't... sorry. I probably enjoy learning Thai as much as you enjoy checking your BMI and playing golf. Why don't you try and denigrate me for not being a good golfer? That would work. I am sure you can beat in a round of golf. A feather in your cap.
  4. of course, w/o any language abilities you gauge things within your own culture - which may make them seem ignorant - when in reality??? I know what your only connection to Thai people is... and yet, why is it that all these "ignorant" Thai ladies, w/little education can learn English while their "educated" counterparts can't manage to scrape together a little Thai language? And customs... I also find them much more perceptive than most Westerners and communication can go to levels you probably would not understand can exist.. See if you can expand your abilities to see, before becoming a name caller...
  5. I have seen people with exceptional Thai language skills that they picked up in rural Thailand w/o a text book. Very few because that includes the general population of farang... most that I have seen here do not speak more than 20 words... I would guess 98%.. ;omg ago I visited a friend in Pattaya - the ladies on the baht bus could not believe I could speak Thai with them... they actually asked me if I was Thai. I think I started this conversation w/the statement that everyone learns differently. I prefer to learn experientially - and that way, I speak like the Thai do...
  6. All of them? And it is not a hard and fast rule... it can be used or not... Ask your GF - and keep your ears tuned... my wife spent time in the USA and she learned that farang do this so she delights in saying to a farang -"Thank you so much" but in the same circumstance it is unlikely she would say it to a Thai...
  7. not the custom to thank someone verbally for that which doesn't mean it is not appreciated and that you might receive a smile - but you have no interest in learning the language or customs...
  8. The appropriate times to use them... it takes some time to learn when it is appropriate or not - which is not the same as your customs from home...
  9. Seems you don't comprehend well - I did say when I first got here. I started w/phrasebooks many many years ago... as a very beginner. And dictionaries too. I haven't carried either for many many years... I do still occasionally refer to the dictionary on my computer, especially for spelling. It seems like you are working OT to pick a fight... Wake up on the wrong side of the web today?
  10. It is not really part of the culture for most Thai's to verbalize a 'thank you' - if it is not usually spoken in their language then it is not impolite or bad manners not to say it to you...
  11. Where do you get your absurd presumptions? - who is teaching me Thai for free? When I first got here I carried a dictionary with me at all times. I had phrasebooks. I learned from listening to and speaking with Thai and just as often teaching them English words as well, at their request.. I still do - I am pretty fluid but there might be a word I don't know at any time... Talk about false assumptions - Wow!! You sound like a champion at something at least - maybe learning Thai and English with others is a miserable experience for you - but it has been wonderful for me... and the Thai friends who have enjoyed the learning together experience. The people I have discussed language with in the past, it has usually been a two way street and we both enjoyed the process - - until you somehow seem to make it into a negative - it has been a lot of fun for all involved, except you, it seems and you are not even involved!
  12. We each learn differently, but I was not one to plan a decade ahead...
  13. My life before having seen your leg... I may need therapy now.
  14. Some achieve mediocrity, others have mediocrity thrust upon them. Joseph Heller
  15. And to think I had to work years to fully develop my neurosis
  16. I found a practice test on line - it had some odd questions that were obviously poorly written questions... What should you do if you are being 'hijacked' ?? [tailgated] How much air should you put in the middle tire? I was really excited when I passed on the 3rd time...
  17. Think I understand it pretty well - Thai spend their time in the present moment - if you are not there and someone else just happens to be... not a criticism of your attractiveness but true for me and everyone else I know... "Ain't nothin' like the real thing baby'
  18. that was when my wife started buying farmland... 40,000 baht per rai, now 250,000 baht per rai...
