  1. Not to be flippant - but are you serious? One of the criterion is a health certificate?

I will need a paper from my embassy at 50usd?

This is all way to much hassle and expense, I just want an id card. I would not even feel good about not carrying my pp on long travels -if the cops check my id onbus and all I have is the card and they want the pp (visa date or tm card) Im screwed.

Another why bother scenario like getting Thai PR.

    THANKS KINDLY!

  2. This is the deal. I have no idea if AA is broken or <deleted> but my wife punched in a destination and date and it came up 1000b.

Ok, this is insane. So I picked Jan 23 for ICN, DPS & some place else I forget. The fees DEPART fees ranged from 700 to 1360! !!

    So <deleted>??

HKG 1050 this is insane, why are these fees changing?!

    Code = DMK

  3. I don't know why there is an assumption that so many people want to live in Thailand. The only region where this might hold true is for Scandanavia and those people tend to be older and see Thailand as a place to go to avoid the winter. If I look at the stats, and Canada seems to have a good statistical base, more Canadians live in the USA than anywhere else. More revealing is the demographics; The majority of Canada's young and educated emigrants go to the USA, UK and Australia. Although the USA attracts a large number of "snowbirds" approx. 75% of Canadians migrating to the UK and Australia are young and prime working-age adults (18 to 49 years).- Source Govt. of Canada

I think the numbers are reversed for Thailand, with the majority being older single males and they certainly are not overly educated at least not the ones I have met. (That's not a slight or saying they aren't nice people,, just an observation.) Australians in Thailand are a different demographic than Canadians and it is a reflection of the low cost associated with relocating and traveling back and forth to Australia. A person of moderate means can easily commute back and forth to Australia retaining access to social benefits and all the advantages of Australia. Jet Star and Air Asia make that possible. Thailand is to Australians what Florida is to Canadians.

I'd venture that the wealthy foreigners do not see Thailand as an alternative home, but as another place to go for extended periods of time. There really isn't much on offer in Thailand to make it a desirable place for the weathy. Americans and Canadians prefer the Carribean or Hawaii. Wealthy Europeans have places in Spain or Sardinia. Thailand is a destination for people of modest financial means and with the way costs are going up, it would seem that Vietnam and Cambodia are knocking at the gate. The Chinese setting up second homes , from what I have seen are married middle aged people that want an alternative to China. The number of expat professionals that I have met is quite small and they are in Thailand for work, not because they love the place.

Could not agree more. People that have real money and and spouse they love do not choose Thailand by a long shot. Its more for washed up.divorcees and guys who slogged it out i shitty jobs coming to live their neckbeard fantasies before they die.

Being able to get on TV and belittle everyone because they have a small pile of cash they have traded for their lives somehow gives them comfort but truth is, they use the money to isolate themselves. They find it all odf and foreign but realize that even with their pile of money no woman wants to be around them. Better to pay for the pleasure here., home issuch a lonely place.

  4. Some years ago I was going to fly down to Central America and poke around. I eas REALLY tired of Asia. It was changing fast (2005) and I wasnt liking it at all, the first years from 2000+ were bad enough. I was really looking for a new base and being from Kalifornia open to Latin America.

Flying out of east coast near my parents (my only reason to returnto usa) I found airfare about same price as flying to BKK. I was unable to buy a one year (or at least book it) ticket as well. Then I thought Id fly to Panama and bacpack up. That was one crazy expensive ticket, so then I looked at flying into CR, wasnt much better OW.

Then I just booked my ticket back to Asia, mylove and my home. Problem solved.

  5. That sucks. Im no fan of taxi drivers but it is their right. Its one thing if they are in a queue, quite another if the fare is standing in tbe street.

What if the driver is really far away from home and the ride will simply pit him farther? Many taxis are drivrn in 12hr shifts by 2 persons. <deleted>.

What if he doesnt eant to drive to freaking Sai Tai Mai on Friday @ 4pm?

  6. Sorry, I asked this before, not really clear.

I am on a Non - O multiple (I do not report or make an annual extension).

I live in a flat with my wife, she is signatory on lease - but apt manager happy to sign paper of my habitation here for nearly two years.

Only official Thai paperwork I have is MFA affadavit freedom to marry and the notarized us doc as well.

    What do I need?

    What steps do I take?

    Thanks.

  7. I get the Singha water in cases of half liter glass bottles delivered, it's cheap and they fit in the fridge.
My way it works out to a little more than 1B per litre. What would yours come out to at 400 litres a month? And having it delivered (up three flights of stairs no less) and not having the extra trash to deal with probably outweighs our having to fill up the fridge bottles (I keep five 1.5 flasks rotated).
Our apt restaurant cut the contract on those bigbottles due to complaints of smell and taste. Not sayin same company - just sayin...We have to spend about 3.5L now and Im none to happy about it, but it is delivered. We dont use nearly enough for external service. If there was a clean water machine downside or even nearby, Id lug it back, there simply is not.
  8. Some toiletries, vegetables, pork, chicken sometimes, household items, mobiles, data and voice, Internet, taxis, mrt-bts transport, dentistry, low end medical services (checks & jabs), medicine, profession Dr evaluation, buses are cheap and great!, national park fees (can be) , food in np's, longtail boat rides, thai restaurants, local fruit and sweets, cinema, pirate dvds, some ITgear when shippong and hassle is factored.

My new hobby is brisk ealk.in thr morning scouring supermarkets for reduced items expiring. Ive had great sucess scoring avocados and milk for the wife especially but other great scores as well. Meat, cheese, yoghurt... :-)

  9. They really should hsve continued the bus to KSR. Taxis treat those people unmercifully. It seems to just be getting worse and worse. My wife and I put some FB friends in a taxi at Swampy. The driver pissed us off so much we yanked them out of fhe taxi and returned the card and driver to the stand. I was pissed! The driver told us he was going to use the tolroad snd if we did not like it we could screw. Not only is the tollroad an option - it eas Sunday night after 11pm! They had four + packs and it eas crowded but would not been so much if his entire trunk not taken up by ngv tank.So you know the more than 3pax paymore scam was going to.apply + whatever else this guy eas going to get up.to.

The woman at the, stand was shocked but very supportive. We did settle it and the guy begged bis fare back. We took the paper and photos of the idtag and the plate and told him.if there was any problems first its the thai police, then tourizt police and I will personally delivwr the complaint paper back to the airport.

Crazy bastard. Sits all night for aride, then pulls some crap like this.

Ive never had problems until about a year ago. Now if possible we always tske airport link and then a taxi home for 60B. Before, was very happy to support taxis.

I avoid like plague taxis out of swampy, sai tal mai and morchit. Took taxi from departures area yesterday with thr wife. Guy was lovely.

    Avoid the queues.

  10. To all you guys slagging marriage...

Perhaps you were previously married to a cow or some other sort of beast.

I was a dedicated bachelor till I was 50. I lived in California in my youth and shagged all sorts of beauties 100s...In Thailand, I also had my fill.

So, when I met my wife I was ready to settle down, have a lovely companion, avoid herpes and not die of hiv.

Its real funny guys on this board - so many could not even attract and keep a woman.

Ah...sworn to fun, loyal to none!

The women in the bars I was meeting were nothing but problems. So you are welcome to them. Their ugly attitudes, garish tatoos, smoking, drugs, scams and bs trips. How much dont I need to pay for that?

    Enjoy the Chlamydia

PS: I did not marry a bar girl if not obvious
