Suggestions for a "Cheap Charlie" Smart Phone

The biggest problem with Big C vendors is when I see a phone for 5K it is not an unlocked phone. But I do like (like today) just for price comparison. I'm researching Samsung A Series phones right now. -
Are there any 'normal' farangs living in Thailand?
connda replied to bob smith's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Exactly. -
We stayed in since the day before Songkran and came out today for a car maintenance appointment. It's done in rural Thailand except for the evening drunken get togethers for the rest of the week.

I can remember back in the day when you could get a variety of different colors back when I started driving in the 1960s.. All you seem to be able to get nowadays is technocrat white, black, or grey. Global corporatism bringing you the dullest and dreariest existent that the plebs could ask for. We're gone full circle. "You can have it in any color you want, as long as it is black." --Henry Ford

27 Omicron XBB.1.16 cases detected in Thailand by April 17th
connda replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I wonder how many other respiratory illnesses where detected also. Really, shouldn't we be informed about every cold and case of flu or bacterial pneumonia that happens in Thailand as many times as possible. Daily preferable but at the least weekly. Then we'd be much safer by confidently knowing all of the cases of respiratory disease - oh, and lets add in the PM2 PM10 induce cases of asthma, bronchitis, and COPD that are occurring right this moment too. I wonder why they only provide covid statistics? ???? -

Yeah they can do it. I traveled with mine on third class rail and paid some piddly amount to put the bike onboard. If traveling from Nong Kai to BKK they'll probably put it in freight. But it is doable.

Suggestions for a "Cheap Charlie" Smart Phone
connda replied to connda's topic in Mobile Devices and Apps
The Xiaomi Redmi Note series are definitely inexpensive. The Samsung A42 is a much more powerful phone. It also has a pretty rocking camera. That's a plus for me. With a price difference with the cheapest Samsung A42 at 6300 THB, I can pay less than $60 to $100 to buy a phone with better reviews and options. My budget is around 10K THB or less. With that said, the Xiaomi Redmi is a really popular phone on Lazada. At least one site was sold out. -

Nice looking phone by the way spec-wise. -

Now here's something interesting. I'm checking price on Lazada for the Samsung A42 and interestingly the prices range from ฿6300 to ฿12000. Looking at the specification (in Thai but I manage) I don't see any differences that would justify such a range of prices as the specs are essentially the same unless I'm missing something obvious. What would warrant such price discrepancies? -
If you don't want to get shot in the Southern provinces the best way to get around the conscription is to volunteer for the Air Force. Go though basic and afterwards you have a one year service stint which there are ways to avoid. But sign up for the Army? When my son signed up I told him flat out. Say no to Army. Volunteer for the Air Force which isn't going to send you to get shot or blown up in the Southern 3 provinces.

Bangkok taxi driver condemned for ripping off foreign tourists

Well they got a deal! Normal prices for farangs at most venues which charge "farang and foreigner pricing" is 10 times what a Thai pays. -

COVID-19 cases will probably rise after Songkran festival
connda replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
So will colds, flus, and any virus or bacteria that tends to spread around large groups of people throwing water. But the media loves to stoke fear. It's really getting old. -
There are some areas in my life where I AM a Cheap Charlie. Smartphones is one of those areas. Why? In this day and age they are somewhat of a necessity - but? I use them as little as possible. For example I wanted to run Audible on my phone, but...Android 5.1 isn't supported. I was able to find a workaround by downloading a APK file from two years ago before Audible no longer supported Android Lollipop. (Caveat - I don't need to be warned about the security issues of APK files). Grrrr - I hate built-in obsolescence. And I keep running into that problem lately when attempting to install apps on my Oppo Older_Than_Dirt Phone running ColorOS over Android 5.1 and which I can not root. Grrrr. So ???? I guess it's time to bite the bullet. But - I want an "unlocked", Cheap Charlie phone. Apple iOS phones are out for all the ฿฿฿฿฿ Cha-Ching ฿฿฿฿฿ ???? Huawei phones are out because of the lack of the availability of apps that I need to use. Oppo phones are out because I want the phone to actually runs Android and not some manufacturers proprietary OS that runs over the top of Android, like Oppo's ColorOS. So I'm looking for suggestions for a dirt-cheap Android smartphone but one that has at least 32GB of onboard storage with the ability to add addition storage of between 64 to 512 GB via SD cards. So let me toss it out there. ???? Suggestion for phones?
