Report Cannabis Warning for Britons in Thailand: Leave It Behind or Risk Jail
connda replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I figured it was not difficult to get in the UK which always leaves me perplexed as to why the morons with suitcases full of bud take the risk trying to fly it back the the UK with a stop-over in some Muslim country where they'll execute you if caught. Makes no sense. But then again, taking the risk of trafficking drugs is sort of stupid imho if you value you life. -

All the Good Mangoes Must Be in Macau?
connda replied to FriscoKid's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
In season, you're getting local fruit off the land of the locals. When you're part of a village/tambom and you know the people living there, you know the sellers on the markets (they're your neighbors in the village/tambon), and you also know where the produce/fruit is coming from. "Commercial" fruit, like Lamyai (Logan) are sold to middle-men who then export it. I don't need commercial Lamyai - I go to the back yard and pick if off of the trees. Out of season? Yeah - some of the fruit is "commercial" quality but it's a whole lot different than the cr*p you buy in the West that never sufficiently ripens. Out of season fruit definitely comes from other Asean countries. I never bought commercial tropical fruit other than bananas in the US is it uniformly sucked as well as being too expensive. -

All the Good Mangoes Must Be in Macau?

I've never had a "seedless guava." I'm not saying they don't exist, but I've never come across one. We are now picking those "oddly shaped" and very sweet guavas off of our trees daily. Seeds are just a fact. You cut wedges and "pop" the wedge off with the edge of a knife - no seeds. Welcome to Thailand. -

The fruit out of my backyard and down at the local rural markets around where I live are 100% delicious. I buy ripe and semi-ripe mango all the time, or as we move into mango season here in the north, I just pick them off my trees. Wherever you're buying them, it's the wrong place. -

Benadryl is associated with memory loss in older people over time as are other anticholinergic meds. Just be aware.

Travan (Lorazapam) is a strong benzodiazapine although not so much at the 0.5mg level. Melatonin is a hormone that under the right conditions can help regulate circadian rhythms. The former will help you become drowsy and fall asleep. It also helps shut your brain off if you over-think. The latter may help you if you have a relative regular sleep cycle and simply are looking to bump it. If you have Travan, I highly recommend that you have a written Rx from a physician/hospital to keep you running foul of authorities in flight stop-overs or even your own home country. If the Melatonin fake? If it's a well known brand like Puritan Pride or Natrol, I doubt it. Interesting. Most supplier pulled their stocks from Lazada and Shopee when the Thai government started making noise about regulating it. Then I started to buy it from iHerb. Now there is only one carrier that iHerb uses for shipping to Thailand and they won't ship Melatonin. Although it seems to be available on Lazada again but it's over-priced.

What is up with tattoos and tourists / expats here?
connda replied to Maxbkkcm's topic in General Topics
Every time I read one of these newbie nonsense posts, I ask myself the same freaking question: "Why does Thailand attracts primarily those people? ... Huge paradox…" Where do you people come from, why are you here, and why do you post posts which are explicitly derogatory toward non-Thais living here. -

What is up with tattoos and tourists / expats here? Dunno. Don't have one, never plan to get one. So? -
500 THB fine and a hand-slap. Get serious. We've heard this before and nothing ever happens in the way of ANY enforcement on the roads. They don't even have patrol officers in cars pulling people over for moving violations, like failure to yield to an ambulance. It's just more "blah blah blah" from those who refuse to do anything in their power to solve the problems. "Blah blah blah," take a picture and publish it in the media, kick the can down the road, place the subject into the memory hole and forget about it.

So many food item prices continue to increase every few weeks
connda replied to steven100's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Exactly - if they push the prices too high too fast, they actually would risk "social unrest" that would make the Red and Yellow Shirt protests a decade or so back look like a walk in the park. The average Thai can't absorb high inflation on top of their overleveraged debt loads. The system would break. In the US, on the other-hand, they just shuffle people onto the streets and claim they are all drug addicts as social assistance is reserved for "migrants." I think that's eventually going to break as the Boomers die off, Millennials struggle, and Gen-Z can't find jobs no less live in the overpriced economy of today and their struggling Millennial parents don't have a basement for them to live it. Thailand though is already on the cusp of throwing society into a inflation induced death-spiral. Eventually s**t breaks. -
Tourism Thailand Vows to End Dual Pricing Amid Growing Tourist Backlash

Puu sung ayu - free <--- ผู้สูงอายุฟรี i can read the Thai right off of the signs, which I do with DL and pink card in hand. I either get mai dai or the adult price. Or they just tell me to pound sand in Thai vernacular. -
Tourism Thailand Vows to End Dual Pricing Amid Growing Tourist Backlash
connda replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Vietnam has officially banned dual pricing for non-Vietnamese at heritage sites, tourist attractions, and national parks since January 2020, following Circular 85/2019/TT-BTC issued by the Ministry of Finance. This made Vietnam the first country in the Mekong Region to enforce uniform pricing for both locals and foreigners at such venues. Good Morning Vietnam! -

For the same reason as those who insist that long-stay expats need to "pay their fair share of taxes," and then out of the other side of their month, will condone dual-pricing. -

They'll usually drop me down to Thai adult prices as I read them off of the price board. I have yet been able to talk them down to "Hey, I'm over 70 and I should be free." -

In Thai Adults - 40 THB Kids - 30 THB You can read the English yourselves. Do this in the US and you're a "racist." Imagine a park in the US, but reverse the Thai and English but keep the prices in the same place. "Racists!!! Racists!!!"
