Thaksin Pushes for Single-Party Rule, Faces Coalition Criticism
connda replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Why not - one party with Teflon Tony as dictator. It's time for Tony to either go back to playing with the grandchildren or back to prison. Or Dubai. They did allow him to leave the country - take the hint. -
Retail Crime Reaches Crisis Levels as Shoplifting and Attacks Surge
connda replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Probably because if a shoplifter is caught they are released with a handslap, but criticize the shoplifter or the UK government and get throw into prison. -

Foreign Tourist Sparks Outrage by Urinating in Phuket Airport
connda replied to Georgealbert's topic in Phuket News
I could go out to my car and pull the SIM out of the camera and post the Thai guying peeing along-side of Highway 11 as I was pulling on to the highway yesterday. Why not, seeing that Thai social media has its panties in a twist whenever a farang pulls out his Johnson to take a squirt, but trust me, Thai men, and ladies and kids peeing along side of the highway is the freaking norm. And honestly, I really don't care, nor am I offended, nor are any Thais offended either. This fake indignation is simply racism. I'm going to start a collection of dashcam videos of Thais peeing along side the road. And then whenever we have Thai indignation and calls for Thai authorities to find and prosecute farang peeing in public, I'll send in my videos, watch them ignored by the BIB, and then report back to AN. How about that? -
Could Trump to Put 100 percent tariffs on Thailand?
connda replied to John Drake's topic in Political Soapbox
I don't want to see 100% tariffs, but I wouldn't mind seeing the 30% tariffs like those getting levied on guitar and electronic equipment that I've been buying lately - and I guess just about anything else that is being imported. If Thailand is going to levy tariffs on US goods that I don't see any reason for the US to match Thailand's tariffs to the tee. What I want to see is a level playing field for all parties. -
Thailand Enforces Burning Ban to Combat PM2.5 Pollution
connda replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
That's because the noise about "bans" are all a joke. There is a lot of noise, but no enforcement. There is no will at all by Thai authorities to actually fix the problem. The can will be kicked down the road forever as the air gets worse and worse and worse. -
Translated: "Doctor Tom personally hates all Chinese and China. But he's in good company. Hating China and Chinese is in vogue in Western nations and is expected of their citizens, especially Western expats living a few hundred KM from China!" OP! Go, enjoy the culture, learn, observe, have fun. That will do one of two things: It will 1) reinforce everything the China-haters say, or 2) it will completely dispel everything the China haters say. Let us know when you get back. But personally I think you'll be in the latter camp when you return.

Trump's Successful Gambit to Remind Americans of His Incompetence
connda replied to placeholder's topic in Political Soapbox
Trump's Successful Gambit to Remind Americans of His Incompetence Translated: "I personally hate Donald J. Trump so listen to me spew my hatred. If you hate DJT like I do, you can spew more hatred toward him too. Come up with new ideas as we'll be spewing DJT hatred for at least 4 more years. My current idea? Trump is incompetence. Join me in spewing, 'Trump is incompetent and needs to be removed from office!'" Ah-huh. Four more years of angst huh. Gawd. -

I'm not so sure about that. At least according to my Thai wife. -
Tucker Carlson Alleges Biden Administration Plotted to ‘Kill Putin’

Tucker Carlson Alleges Biden Administration Plotted to ‘Kill Putin’ I wouldn't doubt that one iota. And I wouldn't doubt that Trump was targeted too. -
You do a 90 day if you are with 15 days of your expiration date, otherwise you don't. My 90 day hasn't coincided with my extension renewal for years. And BTW, I've never dropped off my passport to do a 90 day. Even back in the day when I reported to Chiang Mai immigration in the overly crowded sh**-hole before the renovation, the longest it took me to get a 90 day stamp was an hour, but usually between 5 to 20 minutes. Unlike last year, online seems to work for me now. And I no longer deal with Chiang Mai immigration even though I'm in that Immigration district. Thank God.

700 Stray Dogs Starving in Thai Landfill - Rabies Fears Rise
connda replied to snoop1130's topic in Central Thailand News
This is a problem that can be solved if the government chose to earmark funds to spay and neuter all feral dogs as well as provide government subsidized spay and neuters services for Thai citizens with dogs. The problem is solvable. But like flooding, air quality, and traffic deaths? They is no will to change. -

Midair Collision Near Reagan National Sends Plane into Potomac River
connda replied to Social Media's topic in World News
As a private pilot in my pre-Thailand years, I can pretty much guess that the helicopter was where it shouldn't have been. Planes come in on a glide slope and are positioned in landing patterns by ATC in the tower. The helicopter was in that flight path. Why? Guess we'll find out who will be pilloried soon enough. I seriously doubt the collision was the fault of the airplane's pilots. RIP - nobody survived that. 🙏 -
So she's a pro-Covid-vaxx shill and a progressive Leftie who is a staunch member of the status-quo. I'm surprised that she wasn't dusted off and instructed to say that JFK Jr. raped here when she was a teen. I wouldn't doubt that some Blue-babe will finally be rolled out in Cavenaugh fashion to accuse JFK Jr of rape before this is done. Instead she just goes for character assassination. Yep - they are afraid - very very afraid - because if JFK Jr is confirmed he is going to shake the foundations of the established health care racket to it's core. They are p***ing themselves at the prospect.

Teenage Brit Involved in Fatal Road Collision in Pattaya
connda replied to Georgealbert's topic in Pattaya News
Incredibly sad. 🙏 -
Can you source that. Legit question. I dug into and haven't found that neither Medicaid or the VA have had funding explicitly cut. FYI about VA - speaking as a US veteran. The VA doesn't do f***-all for me. I'm a cold war vet and not a "Veteran Of Foreign Wars," which btw, nobody is as Congress hasn't declared "war" since WWII. When I show up they whip out their "Johnson" and spray me down with the yellow fluid. Cold War veterans as far as the US government is concerned aren't "real veterans." But with that said - the programs even for vets f'ed up in combat sucks. But nothing I've read indicates that they'll be deprived of needed services, and those men and women who were injured deserve everything the US can give them and more. Other than that, the VA is an abomination - it doesn't nothing for me at all. Never has, never will. So? I don't really care.

I just did an "in-place" upgrade of my Linux Mint 20.3 installation which has an End Of Life on April 1st of this year. I don't normally do in-place upgrades (in fact I've never done one for major upgrades) but I tried it in this case. You can use Update Manager to perform a minor upgrade from LM 20, 20.1, 20.2 to LM 20.3 - you need to be at Linux Mint 20.3 in order to perform a major upgrade. From terminal: sudo apt install mintupgrade and follow the instructions. The only problems I encountered was that mintupgrade found "foreign packages" that it marks as in error and would not proceed. I fixed that by going to Synaptic App Manager and deleting the packages which in this case were Libreoffice packages. Other than that, the download of the new major update package took about 10 minutes and the upgrade took about 30 minute. I ran into the same error regarding Libreoffice again during the upgrade and fixed it the same way - go to Synaptic App Manager and deleted all Libreoffice package. Easy enough to reinstall. Other than that, I'm not upgraded to Linux Mint 21 which has an End Of Life of April 2027, but I will be doing a clean install to Linux Mint 22 after April. Don't want to do in now as I need my computer to accomplish some work before I risk the upgrade. One other thing to note - the upgrade takes up a lot of temporary space. I've got a 30 GB partition for / root and I almost filled it. Be aware.

Chinese nationals deny dine and dash, citing a misunderstanding
connda replied to snoop1130's topic in Isaan News
It happens. I walked out of restaurant without paying on one occasion. The entire experience felt like home. We all were extremely relax, talking with the staff, and just having fun. When we walked out it was like leaving a friend's house where you just had dinner. Then on the way home it occurred to me that he hadn't paid. Went back and settled up the bill and had a laugh with the owner. "Hey, we feel like family!' Mistake do happen. -
Why is the United States the savior for the rest of the world? It shouldn't be. Let other countries take care of their domestic populations. Until every homeless veteran and for that matter, every homeless US citizen is helped to obtain a home as a well as healthcare for those who can not afford it, not one red cent should be sent to another country to supply that foreign country's populations with health care that the US is not affording its own citizens. This nonsense of the US taking care of the rest of the world while its own populations languish p*sses me off beyond belief. I literally can not afford to live in my own country while my country funnels billions of USD for the benefit of other country's citizens. That's a broken system. How about "life saving drugs" for Americans first. How about healthcare for those American who can't afford it first. How about Americans First. When every American is taken care of, then we can talk about foreign aid - not until then! 😡
