  1. However, 80% of the Chinese haters here on AN will insist that most Chinese live in hovels, they ae mostly uneducated morons, they don't have access to modern amenities, all the grocery stores are empty of goods, and the Chinese all pee and poop in the streets. Most Western expats do what their home-country governments tell them to do: Hate Chinese. In fact, hate all non-Western countries who challenge the West's dominance. So they believe some of the most ridiculous nonsense believable about the countries whom their governments tell them to hate - like China.
  2. It hasn't got a thing to do with "Democracy." To quote James Carville, "It's The Economy Stupid." And as such, it's about predatory capitalism which tends to be a feature in Western nations which claim they are "democracies," although those so-called democracies tend to care more about illegal immigrants and the welfare of corporations then their own citizens. It has ZERO to do with whether a country has a democracy or any other form of government.
  3. I kid you not when I stated that "Popular in the Pub" is really GammaGobulin's Corner. Explain how three posts with 1 response, 6 responses, and 7 responses respectively are "Popular?" This is a legitimate question, but AseanNow? Why are you highlighting this one member's posts to the exclusion of everyone else? For example, I posted a heads-up to members who are users of Linux Mint about the upcoming End Of Life of a popular release as well as steps to be taken to upgrade to a newer release which will stay current to 2027. I never saw that "public service" post reach the sidebar on the AN site and it got like one comment in the last 4 days. https://aseannow.com/topic/1350187-linux-mint-20n-end-of-life-april-2025-upgrading-to-lm-21-in-place/#comment-19547785 I can understand why it never reaches the sidebar as 1/3 of the sidebar is taken up with innocuous GammaGobulin posts.
  4. You can upgrade to LM 22 but it is a more involved process. The upgrade process from LM 20.n to LM 21 is not that difficult to accomplish in-place via the Upgrade Manager and it buys you two years until the next End Of Life. I wrote this post specifically because many of us don't upgrade just because a new release comes out. Even the folks at Linux Mint state on their site that if your experience is stable and you don't need or want any of the new features, then there is no reason to upgrade. A quote from the Linux Mint website regarding upgrades: "As a general rule... unless you need to, or unless you really want to, there's no reason for you to upgrade." I've already upgraded one of my computers to Linux Mint 22 using a clean install and completely rebuilding my OS, but it's time consuming and not without some minimal risks. I don't want to touch my primary computer as I need it for some software tasks and I don't plan to upgrade it until this May, which is a month after the LM 20.n EOL. And that is why I opted for an in-place upgrade to LM 21 - less risk. I could roll it back in 10 minutes. So yeah, I do know what has been released. I live LM 22 and upgrading to that version fixed issues I had with Bluetooth not working. As far as upgrading to LM 22.1? I'll have to see if there are any features that I want, otherwise - maybe, maybe not. I'll see when I get there.
  5. It's gonna change now....guaranteed!
  6. So now the Lefties want an insurrection?
  7. Biden's pronouns are Good/Bye (pronounced "Gerbrefff/Salfasters....ya know, the thing")
  8. His probably lost somewhere in Soi Cowboy.
  9. Current Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, or Emperor Thaksin Shinawatra. For a guy who came back to Thailand to "stay out of politics" and "live out his elderly years surrounded by his grandchildren" he sure seems to be at the center of the Thai political scene.
  10. We can agree on that. Like in the US, it's wayyyyy past time for the geriatric basket cases to hand the levers of power to the next generations. Boomers like me? Retire for Christ Buddha sake!
  11. It wouldn't last for long before the Thai army steps up to the plate. Like it or not, in the Thai political scene they are part of the check and balances. Single Party Dictatorship. Jeez. Dude needs to be sent back to Dubai.
  12. He'll be released on his own recognizance. Any Brit who criticizes the killer or the government? A lengthy prison term awaits.
  13. Every time Trudeau opens his mouth, Trump should raise the tariffs another percentage point.
  14. Exactly! 100%
  15. I suggest that it's perhaps best to grow thicker skin. Otherwise you'll be perpetually triggered here and eventually will go the way of bob smith. Personally I really don't care who drops whatever emoji on one of my posts - I just don't care, but then again, starting from about the time I was in boot camp and my DI was screaming at us on Christmas Day - "LIFE ISN'T FAIR - GET OVER IT!" as a bunch of the recruits were all weepy eyed about Christmas. I learned a great lesson in life. By the way - that DI was out there with us on Christmas Day. He walked his talk. I respect that. And honestly, it was "just another day." So like emojis. It just an ASCII character. If you put a lot of significance on it, it will tear you apart. So? Get over it. Don't let it bother you. You're making a big deal out of nothing. Really!
  16. She beats the hell out of KJP and Psaki, both of whom came across as surly at best. Like the rest of Trump's cabinet, she'll be gone within two years.
  17. In 2 years Trump's cabinet will not look like it does now.
  18. And your GF is "spitting blood?" Take her to a doctor.
  19. Get them on Lazada. Buy a box. You can verify the authenticity via the 3M website based on the serial numbers. I never had a problem. However - I suggest this instead. N95 mask are essentially single use masks. Get a facemask with P100 inserts. The mask fits snugly and the P100 filters do just that - filter 100% of the particulate. https://www.lazada.co.th/products/3m-6200-2091-p100-pm25-i5467475667-s23183717354.html
  20. Personally I would not buy a computer from the US. There are wayyyyy too many affordable options by purchasing locally and obtaining a warranty that is honored in the SE Asian region. I buy things from Amazon that I can't get here - like underwear that fit and guitar strings for my short scale bass which is close to impossible to find here.
  21. The import fees and taxes are already taken care of. It's seamless. It will just show up on your doorstep. <----- 😕 That's right. Amazon will be delivered by someone who probably doesn't have your telephone number, and they'll just drop it off in front of your door or gate. If it's stolen...oh well. The "Nightmare" will have nothing to do with taxes and custom fees. Speaking from experience. If Amazon has a place to put a notice to the delivery agent, then include your telephone number and instructions not to drop off the package without a signature.
  22. The first thing you should do if your PC came with Windows 10/11 preinstalled? Reinstall a "clean" copy of Windows as you have no idea what malware the vendor installed on your system. A fool and his data are soon parted...and your money too! "I don't know how to do that!" "Well learn!"
