  1. I would always choose a Bolt car over a so called "metered" taxi.
  2. It's good that tourists will not have to worry about this when traveling in the country. A lot of unmarried, but living together for X numbers of years, would be in jeopardy of violating their laws. There are also a lot of married people that don't change their last names but are legally married and don't carry around their marriage certificate. A really poorly planned law.
  3. If Thailand is smart, they will never allow him to set foot in their country.
  4. A very sad day for this young man, his brother, girlfriend, and parents. May he RIP.
  5. A cold weather forecast is almost always appreciated here in Thailand.
  6. Besides visiting temples, museums, archaeological sites, and Thai cooking schools, many also like to visit the beaches in the south and the hills in the north. The rest just invade the main tourist areas looking for their newest GF/BF. Others save poor girls from impoverished areas by buying them a house, a motorcycle, and paying the veterinary bill for the sick water buffalo.
  7. Or a cheap laser pointer and direct that at the camera.
  8. I've only owned Giant mountain bikes and have been very pleased with mine. Rarely needed any mechanical work done it. I did a 300km unsupported bike tour in southern Thailand with my Giant MTB a number of years ago. No problems at all! I can't really speak for their hybrid or road bikes as no experience with those.
  9. Would have been better to have waited until at least the end of February. Gives you all of March and April although you do run into the Songkran holidays/horrordays.
  10. Other than supplying food, that's the rate I just paid last week to have some work done around my house here in Bangkok. I supplied the paint for the paint job and any other tools that were needed. For some other jobs they brought their own equipment.
  11. They should list what areas of Phuket and Pattaya the Russians like to visit. I'll do my best to avoid those places so you know, they won't be so crowded.
  12. Good for Air Canada for trying to make this work. We'll see how it goes. Right now from the US west coast there is a lot of competition from many different airlines. EVA, China, Korean, Asiana, JAL, Singapore, etc. seem to have it pretty well locked up. Don't think a lot of Americans will be heading north of the border if they live on the west coast. Maybe some east coast people might make a go of it. Personally, I prefer EVA. An after midnight departure followed by a 13.5 hour flight during which I sleep a big chunk of it. Two hour layover in Taipei and then a 3.5 flight to BKK arriving around 10:30 or 11:30am. I'm going straight to my house so don't have the hotel check in issue that some people have.
  13. Not anymore! Looks like he has just been repatriated back to Russia.
  14. I first went to Phuket in 1983. It was wonderful! A lot changed in the next 10 years and it slowly descended into what it is today. I haven't been back since 2003 and really don't have a lot of desire to return. I imagine though that there are some other nice places on the island away from the Patong area.
  15. Here's a list of bike shops in the greater Bangkok area. Some have websites, facebook pages, and/or both. Not sure if you are looking to buy a bike or need bicycle related services such as a tune-up, etc. but this should at least help. 16. Good to hear that they got the fire out and there were no casualties.
  17. I definitely enjoy the few cold days that Thailand has during the "winter".
  18. Oops! Poor typing skills (again) as I meant to say what the article said was 5 clips a day!
  19. I didn't say it was better, it was just for convenience as he was traveling with his friends so they all went through immigration through the same line. Plus, he wasn't staying more than 45 days.
  20. Never had a problem in the 37 years he has been traveling in and out of Thailand or the US. He used his US passport to enter the US as always and yes, he always carries both passports. Why do you think he would use a Thai passport to enter the US?
  21. Don't know. I'll tell ya when I get there. By the way, how often does this similar thread get posted? Twice a year, three times a year?
  22. Hopefully they will not be returned to their country of origin as the ruling government there does not respect any form of human rights and especially if you are a Rohingya.
