  1. Wishing the best for her and her family. May she be found safe and soon!
  2. Somebody in another nearby unit was busy filming it. I think I would be looking to get out as quickly as possible.
  3. Hopefully the Swiss police can get to the bottom of this and find out what happened. Where they went after going through immigration etc.
  4. I feel sorry for the family of the pilot. Who knows how they will be treated after this incident.
  5. It does look like a very difficult transition for a young family. As far as school fees go, perhaps after the young child reaches a certain age she will be home schooled thus avoiding the higher costs of an international school. It's also possible that she might do online school.
  6. I lived and worked in Bangkok for 12 years back in the very late 80's to the early 00's. I liked it and it was mostly good. Bangkok definitely has its pro's and con's. I thought I would be returning to Thailand but it didn't happen. When I retire, I will most likely spend the northern hemisphere winter in Thailand and the rest of the time in my home country. Looking at mid-November to early March in Thailand.
  7. My Thai wife died much too young from brain cancer. You just never know.
  8. It's a nice park. I used to go there back in the 90's when I lived on Soi 10. Of course it wasn't anything like it is today.
  9. They are looking at few things in no particular order: 1) A large sum in the bank. 2) Assets in Thailand, such as houses, condos, etc. 3) Employment status. Business owner or a higher level position with a large company. 4) Education. Where you went to university in Thailand. Really helps if you have been educated overseas. 5) Travel to other countries. It really helps if you have been to other European countries, Australia, Canada, etc. 6) Family in Thailand. As has been said earlier, the 10 year visa just means that you don't have to re-apply for a visa for 10 years. I think the maximum time you can spend in the US on a 10 year visa is six months. They are also looking to see if you are likely to return to Thailand after your visit to the US. That's why having traveled to other countries and returned helps as I listed in #5.
  10. I know a number of Thais that fit that same category. They got a 10 year US visa on the first time they applied. It can be done. You just have to have all the things in order that the US embassy is looking for.
  11. I'm surprised he was hanging out in Bangkok. Usually, the foreign criminals head to Pattaya or Phuket. I'm hoping that he is sent back soon to the state or Oregon, USA where he can serve out his sentence.
  12. The way Liverpool FC has been playing lately these three might be needed at Anfield on Sunday! 555
  13. This is correct. The minimum age was originally 16 years but later lowered to 15 in 1983 and 7 in 2011. A passport can be obtained prior to acquiring a Thai ID card. Both of my kids obtained their first Thai ID cards at age 15. They since renewed them at a Thai embassy or consulate after that as they have been living outside of Thailand for many years now.
  14. It would be a travesty of justice if she was granted UK citizenship or anything else that would permit her to stay in the country. Can Thailand file for her to be extradited back to Thailand?
  15. My youngest had a Thai passport but no Thai ID. When he went back to Thailand at age 20 for a visit he applied for his very first Thai ID. You do need to take the Tabien Bahn where his name is listed. It was amazingly quite easy to do. It took about two hours from start to finish. You can get new Thai ID cards when they expire from the embassy/consulate in your country if living outside of Thailand.
  16. In an update to the headline, it is now four law enforcement officers that have been killed with four that are injured during this incident.
  17. Very sad to learn of his passing. Colin was a major writer in the expat circle and was published widely for over 30 years. He will be missed by many. My condolences to his family.
  18. I'm sure a lot of Thai girls were able to make a few extra baht during the visit of this ship to Pattaya.
  19. This is another reason why I try to escape from Thailand during the month of April.
  20. 250,000 police officers in Thailand. Is this the largest organized criminal gang in Thailand?
  21. It will be a great day when this is extended to Europeans, Brits, OZ, NZ, and the Americas but hopefully it will be for 90 days anytime during the year.
  22. Bangkok Pattana out in Bangna uses a UK curriculum. It has been in Bangkok for over 30 years. There are others as well, and I think some are good, but I'm more familiar with Bangkok Pattana.
  23. I did something similar to this but only slightly different. The kids were mine so they were luk krung. They attended very good Thai schools in Bangkok so they were academically ok with moving to the USA. They were almost 16 & 14 at the time and entered the 10th and 8th grades upon arrival in the USA. Their English was very good and had no accent. They had both US & Thai citizenship so there weren't any problems in that area. They adjusted very well to life in the USA and both completed university and have very good careers in IT and finance. If you cannot move right away to the UK then one of the international schools in Bangkok might be another option. You'll probably want to go with one that has a UK curriculum. Definitely do your research on that as some are very good and others just so-so.
  24. First off, the detained man should have been handcuffed with his hands behind his back. Then he should have been placed in a rear seat diagonally from the driver and placed in a seatbelt. As was shown above you need a police transport vehicle with a shield/wire mesh separating the front seats from the row behind the driver. The area where the detained person sits also needs to be made of hard plastic for a variety of reasons. Next, why are they transporting the detained person's mother? She should find her own way to wherever they are going. I can only speculate as to why she was being transported so I won't go into that. Basic LE principles seem to be lacking in the RTP which would have saved this officers life, injuries to others, and the damage to the police vehicle.
