  1. I have been in the Transport Centre a couple of times, but can't recall if there is a K-bank there. And, I can't make their "Locate Us" button work on my computer. I was thinking of one at the Tesco-Lotus on the north side of Pattanakarn Road,, just west of Srinakharin Road. Using the Airport Link train to Hua Mark Station, you can get there in about 30 min.

  2. It is possible to add funds; if told to do so by Immigration, go to your bank and deposit B 1000. (this is probably the required minimum deposit to a fixed-term account). As soon as you have got Immigration off of your back, you can return to the bank and withdraw it.

The rationale is likely that they want to know how you are supporting yourself, not simply that you have   B 800,000 in the bank.

  3. From a former Roi-etian who once travelled to Udon by bus: Departures throughout the day, every 90 min. or so, from about 6 a.m. to about 6 p.m., on the Pink Bus. I believe that Udon has 2 bus terminals, and that it leaves from the smaller one, somewhat removed from the downtown area.

  4. To the OP: there isn't a lot to do in Kunming. They have a small zoo, and some floral gardens. They have a very mild climate, situated as they are at 2000 m elevation. It is 20 degrees almost every day of the year, with maybe 2 weeks of 15 degree weather in Jan., and two weeks of 25 degree weather in July. There may be day buses to Lijiang, though I would opt for the night ones, as it is about a 12 hr. trip.

Lijiang has now been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site, with consequent high admission fees for foreigners to get into the old city. I was there just before those fees were introduced.

  5. By my reckoning, yes. That is B 65,000/mo.

    Assumptions:  1 adult requires B 30,000 (30% of that is allocated to housing & utilities; i.e. B 9000)

    each additional minor @ 60%: =   36,000

                                                  Total   B 66,000

Rule of thumb for housing & utilities:  Can not exceed 30% of gross income, so maximum  B 19,500/mo.  Allowing B 1500/mo. of that for the utilities, that leaves B 18,000/mo. for the housing.

Here is another way to calculate it. Comparing Thailand with my country (Canada), I use a factor of 3.5.

Cost in Canada/3.5  = cost in Thailand. So, take your cost of living in the UK, divide it by 3.5 and convert to baht.

If you are presently living in an expensive area of London, perhaps divide by 4.
