*I 31/07/17 I had originally typed the following at about 4:00 p.m. Sun. July 30. The Forum shut down just as I posted it.
Just came back from a two day absence to find no foreign channels on True, with the "ER 16" message that normally appears during rainstorms displayed on the screen instead. We have normal weather here today, and no problem with reception of the Thai channels.
We left on Fri. July 28, as the severe storm was winding down here in our part of Isarn. From approximately July 26 -28, reception of the foreign channels had been on and off during the storm, as is normal. But things were almost back to normal as the storm was winding down, and we left here mid-morning on the 28th. I suppose I thought that normal reception would have been restored by the time we returned today.
Before I contact the company, has anyone here already done so ? A reply here would probably be of interest to others, as well as to myself.

In what province is this place situated ?

Leaving Thailand without having obtained a Re-entry Permit will void your current visa/extension of stay. You need do nothing further than that. The other questions I will leave to those with specific knowledge.
-
I did it a few months ago. You are absolutely right. Your new employer will have to prepare a sheaf of documents which you have to take to a Thai consulate/embassy outside of Thailand. Probably an overnight stay will be required.

To the OP:
Re the "Card Suspended" Message
While I am not in Chiang Mai, that is likely irrelevant. I had the same issue a week or two ago, with a card I had not used in several months. During the intervening time, my home bank had decided not to allow Balance Enquiries on ATM's outside my home country. Naturally, they never told me that. When I attempted 3 times on the same machine, that also caused my card to be frozen, for all transactions. Check with your home bank; one or both of these issues may be applicable to you.

You didn't say which method you are using: B 800,000 in the bank, pension, or a combination of these. Remember that for the money in the bank and combination methods, your money has to be in the bank for 3 months on the date you apply. With your current extension to stay expiring in Aug., you don't want to move your funds now, or to be travelling back to Jomtien/Pattaya to get a bank letter.

About 1 hr. by taxi. My guess on the price: B 300 - 400. Your much bigger risk is that your train will be late. Thai trains usually run late. I would highly recommend you switch to the bus, if that is still feasible for you. Southbound buses would probably stop in front of the Don Muang terminal if you request in advance. Failing that, get off at Rangsit, which is about 10 min. before Don Muang.

Exact dates are set by each school's director, so check with the school if your question is about a specific school. That said, with Chulalongkon Day on Oct.23, and the cremation of the late king set for Oct.26, Mon. Oct. 30, 2017 looks like a good bet. (It is normally on or about Nov. 1)

Agreed. Normally, taxi drivers give the customer the option. If the customer chooses to use the toll road, the customer pays the toll.

Thailand has a national Entrance Exam for university admission. If you can't read and write Thai, that should end the matter. I don't know if there is anywhere that you could study Math and Physics in Bangkok in English, and it sounds as though you don't care to know either ! Best of luck to you !

Go ahead and apply, then you will know the answer. Nothing bad will happen to you for walking in and asking.

Two more just came to my mind, Korean International School of Bangkok in Nongjok, and Ramkhamhaeng Advent I.S. on Ram. Soi 119; not to be confused with one in Wattana having a similar name.
-
A bit outside your requested area, but both Traill International School and St. Mark's International School are located in Bang Kapi, I believe, not too far from Latkrabang. I know nothing about either, other than their location.

I forgot to mention route 874, five departures daily from Yasothon to Khon Kaen. Does not go to Udon. website:www.phetprasert.com
-
Khun BenqQ is correct re line 268. Departures every hour or so from about 6 a.m. to about 6 p.m. I have used it in the past. I don't recall line 282.
-
The foreigners aren't "guides', they are "co-ordinators".
-
Use the Pink Bus from Baw-Khaw-Saw 1 (downtown) Frequent departures from about 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

At least for this year, it remains on Dec 5. As recently as last Fri. the local school said the govt. had not yet confirmed that July 28 is a holiday !

- if your card has a Visa logo and expiry date on it, it is a debit card (assuming it is not a credit card).
- the OP said the machine swallowed his card, so AYOR for cash withdrawals. Even under normal circumstances, never attempt more than two withdrawals on the same machine, and press the "Cancel" button immediately if you get any weird message on the screen.

Much appreciated. In 22 yrs. here, I have never met anyone, Thai or foreign, who was able to answer that for me. I had never thought of Wiki.

If I may jump in with an obvious related question: What are the lunar months measured from ? e.g "the 8th lunar month" measured from what starting day ?

I am the OP. If that is addressed tome, see my post #32 above.

Update from the OP: Two more unsuccessful attempts to do balance enquiries today; the Chequing/Savings button was not the issue. The second ATM seemed ready to accept my request for a cash withdrawal, though I aborted it, as I didn't need money or want a service charge. I called my bank again and spoke to a supervisor. she said their machines don't allow balance enquiries from abroad.
Just over one year ago, I moved 100 km. At my former home, I had no problems doing balance enquiries on at least three ATM's. Apparently the bank has now blocked that channel to force customers to do balance enquiries online or by phone. Thanks to all who contributed constructive advice.

SCB was the first one I tried this morning. I am now waiting for tomorrow to come. Repeated attempts on the same machine(s) are not a good idea. They think you must have stolen the card, and don't know how to use it. I live in a rural area, so not a lot of ATM's nearby.

For the information of all concerned, AEON is not a bank. It is a consumer finance company.
