  1. They might have been wrong - but they weren't. Arabs, Indians, Africans, Chinese and other non-Thai Asians are not referred to by Thais as farang and never were.
  2. It has always meant that. Over the years, probably because they heard it being used for a particular subset of foreigners, quite a few people seem to have come to the mistaken conclusion that it refers to all foreigners. It doesn't, and never has. Thai has always had a number of different words to designate foreigners from different parts of the world. So for instance, "farang" has never been used to refer to Indians, Chinese, or any other Asians, for that matter.
  3. There's no indication that all 30 of the officers discharged their weapons.
  4. Well, there is the afore-mentioned TrueID TV box, which as a True Internet subscriber you can get, either for a couple of thousand - or possibly for free, depending on which package you have. It is capable of 4K output and you may get that for some movies but I don't believe any of the True Sports channels are in 4K - just 1080p (HD).
  5. Obviously everybody's personal circumstances are different but for me it's much simpler and easier to get a re-entry permit at my local immigration office. It's located in a shopping mall that is three minutes drive from my house (or five minutes if I ride my bike). I normally visit this mall three or four times a week on average, so I pick a time when I was going to be in there anyway and pop into the immigration office while I'm there shopping for groceries or whatever. Last time I did this, the additional time it took me on top of my already ongoing shopping activities was probably less than five minutes.
  6. Do you also have a True Move H SIM card? If so, it seems you can get free coverage of World Cup games on True Sports 2 & 5 on your phone (and optionally, cast them to your TV) using the TrueID app with an option called True Unlock. It also gives you the option to watch all Premier League games for one team of your choosing, for free. Just look for the True Unlock icon on the TrueID app's main screen.
  7. Well, I didn't actually say it needs a box - I said you would normally get one with almost any True Internet package. I'm somewhat surprised that you didn't get one with your fiber optic package. But in any event, you don't absolutely need a box - you can install the TrueID app on a phone or tablet and stream the channels to your TV (or to any Chromecast-compatible device, at least).
  8. As far as I know, almost all True Internet packages apart from the most basic and cheapest ones, come with a TrueID TV box and a basic TV package. If that doesn't include their World Cup channels - and based on @owl sees all's posts it seems like it may not, then I believe you can get an add-on package for 399 Baht that would give you HD (but not UHD) quality.
  9. Pretty sure you can subscribe to the True Sports package(s) for periods of less than a year. You can even subscribe for a day or week, for instance. A single month's subscription may be 399 rather than the 299/month for a 12 month contract though.
  10. It wouldn't solve the problem of not being able to watch the games on an AIS Playbox but it would enable you to watch the games on free to air channels from other countries. For example, BBC and ITV in the UK.
  11. Yes, but that's the whole point - the email address isn't normally visible. You have to know how and where to click to be able to see it, and most people don't bother to do that. Here's what the email looked like originally.
  12. Going cashless isn't about using credit cards (or at least, not primarily). There are plenty of other ways to make cashless payments without using cards. For instance, if you set up PromptPay, all you have to do is give someone your phone number and they can pay you. Also, with most (if not all) banking apps, you have a "QR to receive" code available on your phone. If you display that code to someone else who has a banking app, they can make a payment to you. Then there are digital payment apps like True Money Wallet, Rabbit Line Pay, Alipay, Google Pay (which just became available in Thailand) etc.
  13. I make cashless payments all the time when I'm shopping (usually with True Money Wallet). I open the TMW app and have it ready and waiting before the checkout clerk has even finished totalling up the items. Once they scan the app screen, it normally takes around 2 seconds to confirm payment. In my experience it's much quicker than using cash - and there's no waiting for change, either.
  14. Just "a word to the wise" as the saying goes - there are some emails going round that purport to be from Thailand Post, talking about a payment that is needed for delivery of a parcel, and that ask you to click on a link in the email. A closer look at the details of the sender shows that the email is from an address in Nigeria (.ng suffix) so is highly unlikely to be genuine. See example below where the full email address is visible (it usually isn't, unless you click to reveal it).
  15. You must be disappointed then. ????
  16. If you mean the Thai channels, @norfolkandchanceposted a graphic earlier in the thread showing those. The original of that is on the Pattaya News site but I'm not sure whether a link is permitted under forum rules.
  17. According to the online schedule, the England game tonight is on True Sports 2 & True 4U, in addition to any other Thai channels it may be on. Not sure if TS2 is free-to-air for everyone, but I think T4U is.
  18. I'm actually finding it on 3 TrueVisions channels: True Sports 2, True4U and T Sports 7. Channel numbers 606, 024 & 007 respectively.
  19. According to reports on the BBC and elsewhere, Twitter has now effectively closed down its premises. All its offices are shuttered. Twitter locks staff out of offices Supposedly this is only a temporary closure but who knows?
  20. It depends if you're a Thai national or not. You have to be enrolled in the Thai NDID system and if you're not a Thai citizen, you can't enroll.
  21. 700 km may be pushing it a little - BMW's official figures say 623 km WLTP range. Although on the NEDC scale, that would probably be close to 700 km. BMW i7 highlights It's true that if you had to replace an entire EV battery all at once, that would indeed be an expensive proposition. However that's a situation unlikely to face many EV owners. Current estimates of EV battery life are about 20 years, which is way more than the average ownership of most motor vehicles. Even after that, only some cells would normally need replacing, not the whole battery. And as the technology improves, battery life will only get better. Tesla is currently developing an EV battery that will last for a million miles, which they say they are close to achieving.
  22. Fairly sure he means, "tampered with." Although why someone would suspect a financial institution of tampering with their note-counting equipment, I'm not sure. Since in my experience, they usually use the same machines to count the money they're receiving, it would be somewhat counter-productive for them to deliberately mis-calibrate them.
  23. As the article clearly states: "While online payment services for utilities are currently available in many locations throughout Thailand, this isn’t the case in Hua Hin, or at least for people who are billed from the Hua Hin Municipal Waterworks Division."
