  2. can anyone recommend a shop selling cheap reading glasses off the rack ? looking for 40, 60, 80 baht type of glasses
  3. what a doofus Trump is. but Turnberry is nice, great links. played it when I toured Scotland in 1988. St Andrews, Carnoustie, Gleneagles ... today that would be mission impossible.
  4. easy, only accept deliveries for which the buyer sent a copy of the order summary beforehand.
  5. you might want to delete that video, I believe you might be exposed to prosecution in Thailand
  6. it's a quicktime .mov video file. some deficient browsers won't show it. chrome !!! 555
  7. I watched "Extraordinary Attorney Woo" https://www.netflix.com/th-en/title/81518991 https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/park-eun-bins-extraordinary-attorney-woo-sparks-autism-debate-512262 it's a bit difficult to describe in a few words. the series is extremely well-made, lots of attention to detail and clear images, the actors are very good. it's not a thriller, it's lighthearted, giving fuzzy warmth from time to time but also touches darker topics. I was curious to see how a Korean show would treat that subject and also wanted to see more of Korean society than "Squid Game" (*****), "Hellbound" (***) and "My Name" (****) showed me. the article on wionews.com is correct in saying that the character Woo is unrealistic, but there would be no show with a realistic one. it's more like a pot pourri where autistic persons will recognize some of their traits. I'd give it **** . I will be watching season 2.
  8. and is the non-American one as good as the American one ? ????
  9. I have been watching "designated survivor" with Kiefer Sutherland, finished S01, now starting S02 The first half of S01 was good, and then at episode 14 I got irritated by illogical details, so much in fact that I actually checked wikipedia so see if there had been a change in writers or scenarists, and then read that the series had at first been sold to ABC as 13 episodes. aha, gotcha. The first 13 episodes were good, but then the story loses depth and intrigue. The series remains very watchable after that point though. One thing that already came up several times in what I watched of Designated Survivor so far was that Russia wants to attack Ukraine, even massing troops on the border. eerie premonition.
  10. Watched E1 today and then stalled during E2. I won't be watching this series, it's too far removed from reality and logic for me, and I dislike the visuals.
  11. the difference between notebook and laptop doesn't depend on the user's age, a notebook typically is a lightweight laptop that sacrifices on most things to gain more portability. editing pictures will be easy if she doesn't use the full blown Adobe Creative Suite. editing videos is always more CPU intensive, a cheap basic laptop is never the right tool for that. small video files should be ok. 8 GB RAM will come especially handy for that.
  12. 4GB memory and ASUS have a reputation for short battery life. Battery is rated 37Wh vs. 41 for the HP
  13. Ukraine is facing a tactical challenge. The odds for Ukraine to repeat what they did in last year's offensive are pretty slim, because I guess the Ruzzians won't be had so easily as the first time and I expect Gerasimov to be a meticulous planner. Ukraine will probably attack in different places either at the same time or in quick succession, probing Ruzzian defenses and tentatively try to exploit any breaches to make Gerasimov (over)commit reserves and then attack in a different place. Big challenge because it requires operational stealth from the Ukrainians. And Gerasimov will prefer to lose some ground instead of committing reserves too early. Unless he's under massive pressure from Putin, I don't think he can be played that way. Ukraine's best bet may be to turn some large parts of Ruzzian-held territory into logistical deserts for the Ruzzians, use partisans and saboteurs to hamper Ruzzian troop movement and then attack there. This may be what's currently happening in Southern Kherson Oblast on the left bank of the Dnipro. And maybe that's what the Ukrainians want Gerasimov to believe, and they will attack in the north instead, where I wouldn't expect them because of the proximity to Russia. Who knows? Such are the matters of war tactics. But one thing I know is that the Ukrainians need every help they can get.
  14. I think the machines I linked should be ok for office work / surfing / mailing / watching videos for 4 years. no, that kind of machine is not easily upgradable, at least not for anything that matters such as CPU or graphics. 512 GB should be plenty for school work, and I doubt putting in more than 8GB RAM will bring any noticeable benefit.
  15. at 3 or 4 dollars for a license, getting MS office is a no brainer for me, it guarantees compatibility with every office around the world, all drivers and other little helpers were made to be compatible with it, etc. professional version comes with some goodies too.
  16. I would recommend the following: https://www.powerbuy.co.th/en/product/hp-notebook-15s-fq2726tu-natural-silver-advice-mkp1463440 https://www.powerbuy.co.th/en/product/hp-notebook-15s-eq2203au-285115 I think 8GB RAM and 512GB disk capacity are the most important things to have. The student will also need an MS Office pack, avoid office 365, just buy a full offline professional version 2021 or 2023 or whatever license key for 3 or 4 USD on Ebay or similar from a reputable seller.
  17. 10k will buy the cheapest basic laptop, not much choice at this price.
  18. this is yet another danger of using smartphone apps. every company out there tries to match accounts, phones and phone numbers for "security reasons" - but these are manager-designed 80-20 solutions, they work for 80% of users and cause problems for the other 20%. the problem is, designing and programming security solutions that will foresee all possible problems is costly. the most robust solution is not using apps at all, but website online banking and OTP (one time passwords) sent by SMS. that way, you are not bound to a device (any browser will do, yes even the browser on a smartphone) and not bound to a specific mobile device (the SMS will be delivered to any phone with the the number's simcard in it). I estimate several years will pass before robust smartphone-based banking security solutions will appear. apps are generally a huge security hole - users probably give the app all permissions so that it can work. so banking apps might also report your location. banks might decide that the app should only work domestically. or the app might read your private messages, emails, facebook accounts ...
  19. clicked on the thread - then the photos disappointed. provocative? really?
  20. nope, definitely not. wait, I think I remember where I saw it here (video will start some seconds before Tucker Carlson says he is rooting for Russia)
  21. Tucker Carlson said it himself on air himself that he is rooting for Russia
  22. yes, The Diplomat is good entertainment, binge-worthy. I'm disappointed they didn't conclude the storyline within 8 episodes, and I'm left with a cliffhanger. Massive success, so I guess there will be a season 2 - mid to end 2024 at the earliest. While it's a very good show, I don't feel it has the stuff to become a classic such as The West Wing - the resemblance is that there are White House staffers at work but that's where similarities end. The scenario is clearly inspired by real world events, the war in Ukraine is mentioned, and the Russian mercenaries are mentioned in the series to have pushed France out in Mali - clearly, it's Wagner. As with the Night Agent (good entertainment too), plot twists were a tad predictable.
