Why foreigners should not be worried by the new modification to the revenue code in Thailand
But the suggestion to consult a tax consultant was good wasn't it?

Thai gov. to tax (remitted) income from abroad for tax residents starting 2024 - Part I
Just for clarity does a non O visa extension mean I am a resident (I thought it meant just the opposite) - I think the concept of residency is (as in most countries) blurred and confusing. Finally, there is an old saying "two things you can't escape - death and taxes" For me it's a matter of which comes first????!

Secured Credit Card at Bangkok Bank -- can people share their experiences?
Some time ago I asked for a credit card at SCB and was told as I was over 70 "government rules" say I cannot have one - anyone know if this is true?

Thai gov. to tax (remitted) income from abroad for tax residents starting 2024 - Part I
Slightly off topic but I worked here legally for several years and did a tax return every year - then I "retired" (non O visa extension) currently I am over the Thai retirenment age and since then I have not submitted any tax returns. 2 Qs: 1. should I have? 2. will I have to or will (as I guess they will) use the banks to deduct any tax as money from abroad enters the country?

Phone Sims
Can anyone point me to the cheapest (PAYG?) sim card here in Thailand - it will hardly ever get used as I will put it in a phone that will stay in my house and only be used for telephone baking (or even banking)!????

You sold everything!
The key here is "Nanny State" Not only for landlords - everywhere -Twice in the last 6 months (whilst in UK) tried to pay from my bank account using my debit card (several thousand £) the bank accepted the OTP then blocked the payment (but didn't bother to tell me) because they were "looking after my interests" - and then I had to answer several intrusive questions such as (are you doing this for someone who called you). You can't even spend your own money any more! Also arguements about going back for medical care just don't stack up - knee replacement NHS at least 18 months wait - private double the cost in Thailand. Sometimes you have to bite the bullet and then deal with what occurs after that.

Banking Apps
I do not see how a single device (everything on mobile phone - once lost/stolen they can be hacked) approach is more secure than a two device system (access via pc/notebook confirmation by OTP to phone - lose one device but someone only has half of what's required for access to the account.

Banking Apps
Not sure if this is the correct place but I would like some advice/pointers. I am adverse to banking apps (I don't think they are safe - I prefer a PC and a phone based OTP - two factor). Anyway, I recognise when i cannot win so I am looking at the best way of succumbing with least risk so I have some Q's for the "technology advanced members" amongst us: 1. If I install the apps on a spare phone which will never leave my property does it have to have a sim in it? 2. If it does - does the sim only have to be in for the set up and installation of the app or does it always have to be in the phone (ie can the app be used over WIFI). My assumption is that it does as if they send OTPs then that comes via a mobile but to be honest I just am not clear how these apps work so some clarification would be appreciated.. Please let's no go down the Luddite route - it's a simple question not a criticism of you app lovers for banking.

Increase in UK visa fees.
Yes how does that stack up against what the government pays everyday to house and support illegal immigrants. Punish those that follow the rules and reward those that don't. That's the UK government policy

Suvarnabhumi Airport - bus to Korat
Thanks but I'm not sure that's the bus I was talking about. I once travelled in the reverse Korat to Suvarnabhumi Airport. - that bus originates in Laos and was a big double decker The one you sent appears to be a "van bus" and not suitable for the 75 KG of luggage I will have! Thanks for responding

OTP while abroad
Slightly off topic but might be worth knowing. I have a Smarty sim with a UK number. When I am in Thailand I divert the number to my UK VOIP landline number (using an app I can recieve the diverted calls to my mobile on this number as long as I have an internet connection (ie does not use the sim) BUT SMS do NOT get diverted (they use a differnt channel I think) so any OTPs that insist on sending to a mobile (not all do - some will send to my VOIP landline with a voice call) actually will arrive on the mobile - However Smarty does charge for recieving an SMS whilst in Thailand (as far as I am aware not included in their "worldwide raoming" offer but only 50p I think)

Suvarnabhumi Airport - bus to Korat
There used to be a once daily bus from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Laos stopping at Korat. Anyone know if it's still running and what time it leaves Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Certificate of residency from immigration
One thing to bear in mind if you wait for the residence cert - make sure your medical cert (valid 1 month I believe) doesn't expire in the "waiting period" for the residence cert - last time for me ( last year) it was a 10 day wait for the residence cert in in Korat

Holep sugery and retrograde ejaculation: Do you have it and what is it like?
Have you had an MRI? Not wishing to be negative but you need to be sure what is happening. Sadly PSA is a very unreliable indicator. See below: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-66507893 Extract: Of the 303 who had both tests, 48 had a positive MRI that indicated cancer and of these 25 were diagnosed with significant cancer after further tests, including biopsies. More than half the men whose cancer was picked up on MRI had low PSA test scores below 3ng/ml, which is considered normal, and so would have been falsely reassured they were free of disease.

What's so good about Thailand?
Not really - wherever you are in the world rules/laws may affect you in a negative way - What many people mean whnen they complain about rules/laws is that they are not the same as in their country

Should I or Shouldn’t I
My understanding is that joint accounts are frozen until the will is processed (probate in the UK) so she will need some money in her own account whilst that happens.

Should I or Shouldn’t I
To all those suggesting Singapore as a place for a bank account (I am waiting for a call from Standard Chartered at the moment) In todays BBC news. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-66529632 I guess things might tighten up for a time - from my point of view Murphy's Law!!
