  1. Not necessarily "the Pope" but the man made institution they head - self enrichment
  2. Saying and doing two different things. Announcing an intention may well be part of negotiating strategy
  3. I can eat at home quite well for 800 baht mostly home made - no sodium glutamate. Re the ants - never thought of that but serves two purposes - provides the protein and cleans the floor - I'm all for efficiency
  4. Why can't you take them off put them in your bag (and have one especially for this) and take the bag in with you. Alternatively, buy a chain and padlock!!!!
  5. Part of any foreign holiday is to experience the culture NOT to try to change it! When in Rome........ And for those trolls who want to point out the person is in Thailand - "When in Rome do as the Romans do" is an old saying
  6. You pay 800 Baht for a restaurant meal for one - I can live for a week on that (alcohol excluded) 😁
  7. I think most diesels that "smoke" have worn out injectors - not expensive to replace but I guess saving a few Baht is preferred to saving the health of their (and other's) children I would just like to know (I do really) how these vehicles pass the annual Thai MOT.
  8. I expect he sees it as a "valuable piece of real estate" (and a bit less dangerous than Gaza). Or maybe he's eyeing up his retirement home!
  9. Has to depend on at least two things: 1. What is your nationality - Farang or Thai? 2. Which part of Thailand are we talking about ?
  10. I'm 81 - had beard since I was 18 (not common in 1961 and got a lot of Baa s and confrontations then) - never been shaved off except at the request of a Spanish friend when I visited him in 1969 (During Franco's reign a beard = anarchist (although I think maybe I am a bit of one) I reduced it to a goatee). Don't expect to lose it before the the flames get me!
  11. Who'd have him? 😀
  12. vowing and doing - two entirely different things.
  13. Just for fun: This is a 11 character anagram of investigation not quite the full 13 but very apposite negationist - definition - noun 1. negationist -- One who revises history in order to omit something that actually happened. Source:Wiktionary
  14. Yes and in this election the small parties were squeezed by the two major parties. It seems symptomatic of the world today - Polarisation US/ China - Republican/Democrat - Black/White no room for a middle ground. I watch a lot of news channels one of which is Al Jazeera, another is CNN - CNN have a punch line for a thing called "at the table" - they say it's a place where people with differing political views "talk to each other" THEY DON'T - they talk AT each other from their own view point. I also watch the BBC which claims to be "unbiased" it isn't it looks at the world from the "western perspective". Polarisation will cause nothing but trouble but I think it's here to stay.
  15. My guess you knowingly or un-knowingly signed up for that to keep the contributions down. It's a common practice but ignores the impact of inflation - so no tears for you I am afraid 😢
  16. Not connected with a recent incident of BMW versus pickup??
  17. What psychosocial factors lead to someone posting a subject like this??
  18. The problem with the UK pension system is that it is not "funded " it is paid for out of current taxation. And given the ageing population until a Government (of any persuasion) grasps that nettle (and the population below a certain age understands the long term issue for them) things can only get worse.
  19. Some people believe in a God some don't. What I definitely do not believe in is the man made institution of the "church". When they give away all their wealth to the poor then maybe they will have some credibility
  20. Educated Americans should know perfectly that over extending your debt leads to economic trouble The United States has the largest external debt in the world (Wikipedia). The US has been living beyond its means for many years. No doubt put in that position by "uneducated" politicians.
  21. According to the chart shouldn't that be: ALL VACCINES MAY KILL YOU.
  22. Just for clarity "sand flies" - does that mean infections are most likely to occur in beach locations? Or is the sand fly everywhere?
  23. Thanks for that admission - shouldn't you start a new thread if you want to talk cobblers? A cobbler is a man who repairs shoes so cobblers are many men who repair shoes. Northampton (UK) was famous for shoe manufacturing (before the Chinese caught on) and hence their football team has the nickname of (The) Cobblers.😀
  24. What's this got to do with shoe repairs or Northampton Town football club?
  25. I guess she likes animals eh🥰
