Thai Govt Proposes Salt & Fat Tax to Boost Public Health
Negita43 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Which is better - Tax or Health Education - obviously for the government Tax but for the population ?? Health education should start in primary schools and continue into adulthood. -
Not sure if this is the correct forum but - In the UK there are many online glasses suppliers are there any in Thailand or are there only (overpriced as far as I can see) retail shops. Thanks

Given the state of the NHS in the UK that is not possible as I explained in the initial post I have spoken with the hospital and no follow up appointment is forthcoming. Here are some figures from 2022 ( and by all accounts they are now worse). https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-63905269 The UK NHS is very structured and access to consultants is only via a referal via the local General Practictioner (GP). Appointments to speak to the local GP (often only by telephone) regularly take 3 weeks to fulfil which is the only route to get the hospital to review my case - even if the doctor agrees to refer then there is the wait to get a new appointment. Thanks for your help but even though it will cost me money I will have to wait until I am back in Thailand to revisit the excellent doctors there to see if the depression is the result of something else or the hormone treatment. Thanks again

Thanks for your interest Sheryl. Currently till late November I am in the UK then it will be near Korat. I have been told no metastasis and the bloods were done about 1 month ago. However for me there is another strange issue. Before and immediately after the treatment (radiation and hormone) at no point did I have to get up in the night to urinate - now two or three times. But the issue I am really concerned with is the depression which I thought might be hormone injection related (maybe I am wrong to think this) so balancing the risk reward of stopping them is my key issue at the moment.

Background: Earlier in the year I underwent a successful radiation treatment for prostate cancer in conjunction with a 3 monthly hormone injection. My PSA before radiation was 43ish and after radiation was around 0.4. I had the first two hormone injections in Thailand (one before radiation, one after). Both injections were Enantone manufactured by Takeda In May I had to go to the UK where I had another PSA test (<0.1) and in July a third hormone injection (Prostap- manufactured by Takeda also) I’m pretty sure Prostap and Enantone are essentially the same. This week I had another PSA test (<0.1) and am due another hormone injection in the UK early November I will return to Thailand late November. I was due to see a UK consultant mid October when I planned to discuss the issue below but now that has been delayed beyond my return date (no appointment in the foreseeable horizon due to the state of the Scottish health service - apparently patients with a new prostate diagnosis take precedence over those undergoing treatment). I have had some other blood tests over here and everything (including blood sugar and thyroid) are normal except for raised lipids – prescribed Atorvastatin). So here goes: I understand the side effects of the hormone injections and I have no problems dealing with “hot flushes” (usually after meals) and a 5Kg weight gain (which I can’t seem to get down). However, since the initial treatment I have become progressively more lethargic (I am - or was - an active 80 year old) and more importantly becoming progressively more depressed which is having an impact on my day to day life. So the main question is this – when does the hormone treatment stop or is it a permanent process – anyone have experience of these hormone injections and what happens longer term?

If you read my previous posts I believe I said I had had a biopsy and radiation therapy in Thailand before

Just an update to my previous posts - my PSA now < 0.1. I am in the UK at the moment and out of interest just had my hormone injection over here it called prostap in Thailand it's called Enantone BUT both made by the same company (Takeda)

I am abroad at the moment (since May) and haven't looked at Thai Visa since then . This morning (UK time) I tried to enter the site, firstly it would not accept my password - solved that with new passwors (noticed parameters forr password no longer suited my original). Now I am in the site things look a little different (reference to Thaiger for one thing). I was looking to update myself on the current situation on the tax rules for retirement visa extensions - can't seem to find that. So has something happened?

What would you do with that scam?

Your point is correct except for the last part which is completely unnecessary - not everybody might be as "tech savvy" as you. -

Surprising Statistics: Uncovering Thailand's Hidden Population Crisis
Negita43 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Firstly, I live in rural Isaan amongst the doomice. Just because you are poor doesn't mean you live in a feudal society. The UK has many "poor" in its population. Granted on some fronts there may be elements of feudalism (as viewed through our western eyes) but to call Thailand a "feudal society" is somewhat overstating the case I don't know any feudal society that has universal health care for the poor doormice. -
So it's a router issue - no malicious router no VPN issue

So if a Thai moves say from Nakon Ratchasima to Bangkok they have to register that? (big brother is watching where you live). But they are still Thai. The headline makes it sound like these people are illegal immigrants.- 23 replies

So it's not a VPN issue. it's a router issue because if the router isn't compromised then any issue with the VPN can't be expoited

Slightly off topic but are people aware of the "Cascade System" for Schengen? - The rules are slightly complicated but if you have had previous Schengen visas within a certain time scale you can ask for a longer validity than 1 year Visa For example we have just got a 2 year validity Visa (Austria) for my Thai partner (still 90 day max in 12 months) because she had a 1 year validity visa (Spain) less that two years ago.

Just to conclude my post - PSA yesterday O.4 (1 month later) - watchful waiting (and I was watchful waiting for 20 years - my PSA in 2000 was 7) and then action when required pays of!!

Thailand's NVI Backs AstraZeneca Amid Controversy
Negita43 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The age old paradox - risk versus reward: If you have the Astra Zeneca Covid vaccine you might die from Thrombosis if you don't you might die from Covid BUT you cannot know beforehand which category you might fall into - all we can do is look at the statistics and make our own decisions or not as the case may be. -
Being quite old my plan (made early last year) was to move all my money assets to Thailand so my Thai partner could access my money easily when I "pop off". This new interpretation (for want of a better word) put the kibosh on that. So this year I will not be in the country long enough to be a tax resident and I will transfer all my money here this year (both income, what I had before Dec 31st and proceeds of the sale of my flat - after that I will be happy to pay tax on my meagre UK pension should it reach the required threshold.
