German tenant sought after Krabi rental home wrecked

Police in Krabi are searching for a 27-year-old German man after a rented house was found extensively damaged, with the owner estimating losses as high as 500,000 baht.

The man, identified by the owner as Mr Enderes, had rented the property in Villa Maharaj village on Maharaj Road, within Krabi town municipality, for four months. Police said they were seeking to prevent him leaving Thailand while they investigate.

Damage found across both floors

At about 5.30pm on 25 August, Pol Lt Charnwit Jamsai, an investigating officer at Krabi City Police Station, was called to the home by owner Pattaralada.

She told officers that a foreign tenant had allegedly smashed furniture, household items, electrical appliances, walls, room doors and window panes throughout the house. Broken glass and debris were scattered over the ground and first floors.

Police investigators who attended the property also found a strong smell of cannabis in an upstairs bedroom. Cannabis-use equipment, which had also been broken, was found in the room, along with a box of shotgun cartridges in a wardrobe.

Pattaralada said neighbouring residents had reported hearing loud smashing sounds from the house over the previous two days. She had tried to contact the German tenant by telephone but received no reply.

Concerned for his safety, she went to inspect the property on 25 August. The house was locked and the tenant was absent, although a motorcycle was parked outside. After seeing several damaged windows, she used a spare key to enter.

Village security staff reportedly told her that they had seen the man walking out of the development around midday.

Police ask Immigration to act

Police collected evidence at the house and said they had contacted Immigration police to have the man's passport blocked, amid concerns that he might leave the country. Officers are continuing efforts to locate him and bring legal action.

The motive has not been confirmed. Police said they suspected the man may have used drugs and suffered hallucinations or an agitated state, citing the smell of drugs inside the property.

I think the damage claim should include a sum for "loss of rent while repairs are completed"

Not so sure about that.

What would happen, if it was a falangs home rented to a Thai and it got trashed.

Did the landlord return the rental deposit? probably not ...

Then again, it's not good to trash the place....

Good point.

We do only have one side of the story at present.

No excuse for what he did.

But was there a deposit issue before it got trashed. ?

The guy's an idiot and I'm not excusing it at all. But maybe he got the word that the landlord wasn't going to return his deposit and decided to get his money's worth.

It was still stoopid. I understand the frustration, but most of us just take it in the shorts and move on.

Thought cannabis brought a peaceful, non violent mind... hmm, guess the dopeheads were wrong. I hope they revoke the cannabis law.

That's what I wondered. In this case and others. But he was only there 4 months. Maybe he said he needed to leave early and asked for even just a partial refund but the landlord said that's breaking the lease so you forfeit the whole deposit? Doesn't make trashing the place ok though.

It does . maybe its you who is wrong , there is no suggestion at all that cannabis use is responsible for this, only a passing mention that there was a smell of cannabis present in a bedroom, So, was it the smell of fresh ie unsmoked cannabis ? or was it the smell of stale cannabis smoke ? perhaps you could enlighten me

Get him.

But doubt that the damage was truly around 500,000 baht.

Surely she held a significant bond from the renter? And insurance against damage???

That is not the solution.

With the recent new changes in law, one needs a P.T.33 form to be able to buy medicinal cannabis in official Cannabis dispensaries, which in my opinion is the right way to control cannabis sales.

But obviously, the black markets are still available for people who are not eligible to get a P.T.33 form.

Thailand`s problem is, that the legalisation of cannabis was done too fast and available to everyone, without proper laws. Having learned from these mistakes, laws are getting tighter, which encourages and boosts the black market sellers to step in. And the influx from cannabis from Laos and Cambodia is not to underestimate.

Having said that, cannabis from the black market does have some potential risks, as it is not clear, how high the THC level is or if the cannabis has been altered.

That this guy, or also other`s in the past, go so crazy by having smoked cannabis, is not normal. There must be an underlying cause for getting so agitated. We do not know, what else this guy had in his blood stream or if he does have any psychiatric disorder.

500,000 Baht my arse the whole place isn't worth that, get a couple of black bin bags and clean the place up, No he shouldn't have done that,

But we have seen over the years a few places trashed due to some dispute with the landlord usually when they don't return the deposit,
