A bucket of coins...

It will be different for different people.

I have always liked to save any change that is in my pocket at the end of each day because I don't like to carry it around and I don't miss it, but It's nice to let it accumulate until it can buy something worthwhile.

I don't know exactly why, but I get a lot more pleasure spending money I have saved, rather than money I just withdraw from my pension.

Recently, I have been giving any 10 and 5 Baht coins to my granddaughter to save. I'm hoping it will teach her the value of saving - and it helps with her maths when we count it together. Just last week we counted over 7,000 Baht and put it into her savings account.

We keep all the Satang coins seperately and she puts them into the orphanage boxes. It's a very small act of charity - but she's only 5.

I suppose the point of saving coins is the same as any savings - accumulate now to spend later.

I don’t like to carry it around either, I like to spend it as I go.

I believe in saving, I just don’t believe in leaving money lay around in buckets.

I think making kids work for their money teaches them to value it more than just giving it to them.

I enjoy saving the money I save. I do not understand how you if spend the money you save you can call it saving..,

Can't disagree with what you say, but the final paragraph confuses me. What is the point of saving money if you never spend it - I suppose it gets passed on to your heirs for them to spend.

Most of my life I have had to borrow money to buy a new car. Last year I bought a new car with money I saved over a 4-year period. Feels good not to have any debts.

All my life I only had to borrow money to buy one car, and I paid it off early. It was a 1999 GMC Sierra. Paid it off in 2001 and I think that’s the last debt I had.

I just would not consider a few hundred dollars worth of coins gathering in a bucket part of my savings.

How is spending it on bus-fare saving it?

If I have to pay the fare, one coin in my pocket is better than a bucket full at home.

Seriously?

The reason to save coins to ride the bus is to assure that you always have a healthy stash of coins in order to pay exact change for the fares.

Experienced baht bus riders well understand it's always best to pay the exact fare in coin(s) and not be in a position to expect change.

Duh.

Old saying: Look after the pennies and the pounds will take care of themselves.

Or, as my Granny would have said "Mony a mickle maks a muckle".

That’s why I carry them in my pocket.

What good do they do at home?

To always have am ample stash, dude.

Not going to carry my entire stash in my pocket.

Only carry what you might need for a current daily outing.

So when you SPEND that, and you have sensibly SAVED a STASH of coins, you ALWAYS have new coins READY to take out on your next outing.

If you don't save a stash of coins, when you SPEND the coins you have, you simply won't have enough coins to replenish for your next daily outing.

Do you UNDERSTAND now? Or are you just playing dumb for silly sport.

So the idea is save a buckets full of coins at home to make sure you can go home and get a ten-baht coin any time if I need one, yes?

I guess I’m just too lazy. I hate walking home to get coins, and I know it sounds stupid, but I just carry a few around in my pocket.

Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect

i dont save my change per se, i just dont want it in my pockets so it goes into a jar in the hall.

when the jar is full, i send the maid to deal with it.

I'm now considering your supposed incomprehension an intentional game.

Yes, I sometimes leave it in the ashtray of the Bentley as something of a tip for the chauffeur, when I’m not using it for the baht-bus.
