The Health Support Service Department is taking action against the Lelux Hospital for advertising surgery for female genital mutilation.

“We consider such advertisements, which includes a picture of a patient with her legs wide apart, inappropriate and against public morals,” Arkom Praditsuwan, who heads the department’s Bureau of Sanatorium and Art of Healing, said yesterday.

He said the Nonthaburi Public Health Office had already contacted the hospital to summon its representatives to acknowledge the wrongdoing.

Lelux Hospital is located in Nonthaburi province.

“The advertisement must be removed immediately,” Arkom said. “The surgery is not illegal. But advertising it this way is illegal.”

Huh? The surgery, which is a painful mutilation of a child that will handicap her ability to enjoy sex for life, is legal. But the ad is too graphic so that's what the news story is?  What is wrong with people? Another case of artificial morality, while the real crime is overlooked.

In many countries it's banned, special in a lot of African countries and western countries. Just google it and you will find it. In Thailand it's indeed not banned, pity for those women. It's cruel for their lifetime. Source: https://www.unfpa.org/resources/female-genital-mutilation-fgm-frequently-asked-questions#banned_by_law

Barbaric. Children need to be protected from these ghoul parents and confiscated by the state to be protected in foster homes. If a woman is of the age of majority and wants to modify her body surgically “up to you”.

Can't believe that Thailand allows this to go on?

Agree.

Ban all FGM and circumcision of males without their consent or medical problem.

Both are human rights abuses of the highest order.

This is an Orange.

That is an Apple.

Male circumcision is hardly the same as removing a girl's clitoris...

FGM should be outlawed and anyone practicing this vile mutilation should be jailed for a crime against humanity.

Agree.

The same for those committing male circumcision on those without their consent - ie, infant boy.

All circumcision is cruel for life.

Barbaric procedures when done without there being any medical problem that requires it.

To me it's absolutely horrendous.

But no different from male circumcision at birth that is legal in almost all countries.

Chopping off part of a peter or part of a virginia are just another of the insane rituals imposed on society in the name of religion.

It damn well should be!

It is an evil and cruel thing to do to a person, and should be banned in every civilized country on the planet.

Why only in civilized countries ?  Maybe if banned totally it would be a small step in the direction of becoming civilized.

Completely different from male circumcision.

When the clitoris is removed, the girl cannot attain orgasm

Studies from males that have been circumcised at birth say their sexual sensitivity is reduced greatly. Not only that, there is extensive scarring left around the penis that causes pain during sex and prevents the man from achieving full orgasm. It often depends on the doctor. Some cut more than is necessary. Not only that , the poor little baby is awake and does not recieve anasthetic.

Why don't you try taking a piece of your most sensitive organ and slice through it with a sharp scalpel. Just to see how the baby might feel.

Because the female will probably  be in pain for the rest of her life.

Many males are actually in pain for life. Often times the scarring is extensive.

Many males get their foreskins sown back on. The trauma of have part of their body sliced off with a scalpel apparently can effect them for life.
