I was in Thailand 2 times this year, by visa exempt. In april and may. Both times I entered by air. In May left by land.

Do you think I'll have a difficulty the 3rd time, in a week? I don't want to stay longer than 1 month, hence no 3 month visa.

Whether you are questioned would likely depend on whether you have a longer-stay history in the past.  Without a longer-stay history, it is very unlikely you will be questioned.  To erase all doubts, I would have 20K Baht in cash or travelers checks, plus your return ticket leaving within 30-days to show (which you may also need to board your flight sans-visa), plus the complete address of where you will be staying.

200 baht and nothing more :passifier:

I do. but doesn't it get reseted every new year?

The key is, it must be in cash - not available on plastic.  There are no ATMs between plane-disembarkation and the immigration-checkpoint.  People have been denied-entry and forced to leave Thailand for not having it in cash, to spite begging to just go to an ATM to get it.  By the rules, 10K is enough for a Visa-Exempt, but 20K is what I would recommend.

No.  People have been questioned because they stayed an extended-time in a previous year.

Given your time out-of-country, it is very, very unlikely you'd be denied, as long as you have the cash, ticket-out, and your Thai-address.

Before I got my non o.

I did 4 in a row from Dec 16 until July 17  No more than 9 days away from LOS each time. I flew in from uk 3 times and HK once. Never any issue. Got questioned for 5 mins at the booth, I pulled out my phone showed her my next flight was in 1 hour and that was it.

The odds are very probably (95-99%) with you, but to an extent and statistically speaking they're usually going to be.  But no one here can give you any guarantees, and don't get too comfortable with what happened this year vs last; the IO can see your entire history, even if you've got a new passport.  DON'T be misled by someone saying HE'S never had any problems - 'purely anecdotal and proves absolutely nothing.   If an IO up & decides to take an interest in you, all bets are off.  I think the B20,000 cash to show (doesn't have to be baht BTW but does have to be cash in SOME currency) and the flight out are good advice.   Stuff on your phone like digital copies of utility bills, bank statements, etc. (in your home country) can't hurt, although there's no guarantee they'll look at them.

How can an officer see my entire history if I have a new passport?

I just made 3 Visa exempts in a row, another 2 earlier this year and 4 last year, was never asked anything, its not all as difficult as many people make it seem ;)

I was questioned on the 2nd time. "Hmmm, why do you keep comming here so often?" Sure, often, the 2nd time this year! So often!

In an airport.

Same here, after 30 years associated with Thai , have gone else where, I was asked quite abruptly and how long this time.

There is this new thing called a computer, yeah, they have them.............all your entries are recorded.

then why does everyone recommend getting a new passport to mitigate the consequences of frequent visa run and a lot of tourist visas?

have a new passport -- as you were to come here for 1st time from the officer's point of view.

You really think the IO flips through your passport and reads every page for your details of entries? They do it because they want to verify your latest visa or exempt and where to put the stamp. All the rest is done by their computer.

A new passport won't help a thing, but people like to believe what they want to believe.

Why do you think they put your photo page on a scanner? And if you not believe me, go to Don Muang and exit the country. There you can stand back and see how fast the computer retrieves all of your data.

Btw, I love computers. ;)

There are two separate issues

  1. Getting visas at consulates that operate under the direction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The consulates do not have access to immigration's database. Thus, in most cases, they rely only on information they can see in your current passport when deciding whether to issue you visas, and what documents to demand before doing so. Thus, a new passport does help when applying for visas.
  2. Entering Thailand. This involves officials of Thailand's Immigration Bureau. Immigration has a record of all your entries and exits from Thailand with some basic accompanying data. This is available to their officials at all entry points. When you enter with a new passport, immigration's system tries (and seems usually successfully) to link your old and new passports in their system. Thus, for purposes of entering Thailand, a new passport is not successful in hiding your prior record of time in Thailand.

Not so, there is an ATM that disburses US$ at one of the gates.  I used it prior to going to Yangon on Thai Airways

On the way out, yes.  Some who were denied-entry for "not having the money" have used one of those ATMs to get the required-funds on their forced-exit, in preparation for their return.  But on the way in, I have seen no reports that ATMs exist between the airplane and immigration.

That was probably because you are you.

For me it's another story
