Dear OP,
The phones are normally only on Cell 5 and in the private cells (detainees fighting and delaying extradition but sit on millions of Baht). Their is a strong chance that your BF did made the call from Cell 5 but because he didn't had any funds they moved him to Cell 2 or 3 which is hell compared to 5. In cell 2 or 3 are no chances of making another phone call and those detainees have no visitors, no extra food and have no funds to buy even a ticket. Some have been in for years and some didn't even made it.

The consulate should be your first option but I would try to call the IDC and my second option would be the UNHCR under +662 056 0000. Give the officer at IDC on the phone the full name, date of birth, passport number, citizenship and tell them you call from Europe to find out more so that you are able to assist and get him out of the mess. The second option would be the UNHCR, especially for countries such as Rwanda, Sudan, etc.

If it has been confirmed that your BF is in IDC, buy him a prepaid Visa or Mastercard and put a 100 Euros on it and send it to him via express without the PIN. He will be able to call you again to get the PIN.

All the best !!

A few observation regarding your post.

Firstly, the Op in his original post indicated that he had received a video call from his friend and that it looked like he was in a cell.  That would seem to suggest the friend was using an internet connection of some sort via a mobile phone/tablet/laptop.  These devices are not allowed in the IDC Bangkok as they would most certainly been taken away from him on his arrival at the center.   I suspect that the video call was made when he was first apprehended and put in a local police station cell as it’s not uncommon for prisoners to be allowed to retain their mobile whilst ‘enquiries’ are being made.

Secondly, regarding you suggestion that the OP might possibly contact the UNHCR for assistance.   I don’t think that that they will offer any assistance what so ever, on the simple basis that the friend is not a refugee.  He is basically a person who has broken the law in Thailand, been convicted and awaiting deportation to his home country in accordance with the laws of the Kingdom.

Thirdly, regarding consulate involvement.  Again I doubt that they will be of much assistance as their role in such matters is extremely limited (e.g. notifying next of kin and seeing that his basic health needs are being met) and they would not normally wish to, or cannot, become involved in situations where one of their citizens has broken the law and been convicted.  At best they will only offer some ‘lukewarm’ advice, like get a solicitor.

....Giving him a prepaid card with 100 euros on it after he has got out, right, to buy some food and coffee in the airport lounge? He hasnt called since, dont know why.

Sorry but you really don’t seem to understand the situation that the Ops friend is in.

Once a flight has been arranged and paid for the OP’s fiend will not be free.  He will remain in detention until he boards the plane at BKK.

Normally on the evening before his flight is scheduled to depart he will be taken from the IDC in Bangkok to the ‘backdoor’ of the Airport in a prison van.  Upon his arrival at the airport he will be escorted to the secure immigration holding area (which is airside) where he will remain until his flight is due to start boarding.  He will have no opportunity to avail himself of any of the public lounges or be able to purchase any duty free.

Shortly before boarding starts, he will be escorted onto the plane (usually before normal passengers start to board) and his documentation will be handed over to the purser.

Although conditions in immigration holding area at the airport are slightly better than the IDC in Bangkok, it is by no means a first class lounge.  Entry is strictly by invitation only.

thanks again to everyone giving me advice.
the consulate does not respond, so I will start to try the following options until I arrive there ... if there is something new, I will let you know ...

whatever the truth I'm going to find ... and whatever the end of my story, ...

I hope this thread will help people who are likely (and sadly) to be involved in this dark side of Thailand soon

greetings and enjoy the weekend

OP.... I think that Ubonjoe made mentioned in passing in one of his excellent posts that your friend will not only be deported but he will be banned from returning to Thailand for some considerable time.

In your original post you indicated that he had overstayed for "some years" but did not specify actually how long he had overstayed.

Because he was apprehended the length of the ban will be considerably longer than had he surrendered to immigration at the airport.

If his overstay was less than 1 year, he will be banned from entering the country for 5 years.  If the overstay was more than 1 year he will be banned for 10 years.

Once again... Good luck.

hello red 007,

yes, I know and I also know that my chances of having close contact with him are almost impossible for a long time,

since I can not even afford to travel to his country (thinking in the best scenario).

but I came to the idea, now I'm not thinking about the long-term future,

now my debt for the promise I made him to stay with him and help him forever, is to get him out of there.

Even if I can never see him again ... so of course I know that our future plans to live together in Bangkok have been broken.

I do not even spect nice farewells at the airport. that means nothing at all, the only thing that is important for me now is that he is (as much as possible) well,

and that he leaves this mess as soon as possible

-UNHCR shall not be of much help if he was not on UNHCR refugee status already;
-You could contact the consul of bf's country and ask for help, (for african country not guaranteed);

-You could show up at lDC and see what can be done.

again that bad smell of racism is around...

im trying to bite my tongue to dont talk too much, but believe me (or not, up to you) he had a good job. and he was really good at it.

and any thai can do that, so no, no please not make me read that shit of "they stealing our works".

do you really think somebody deserves the conditions at IDC because a visa overstay? he didn't make anything aggressive or violent to anyone

. sorry, call me a dreamer, but there are no real frontiers in the world,

ok, goverment can say is illegal to be too much time in his property and ask you to leave,

but abandon someone to his luck, starving and uncommunicated, in that hole? you think that's

justice? for me it is dark.... is something they dont put in the "thai of smiles" tourist advertisement.

they washed you brain and you think a border exists,,, but dont get so far to accept places like IDC or gibraltar strait for example.

and lemonjelly, you know what???  thai population in Bangkok is doing also all sorts of dodgy activities all around.

maybe even more painful, but you think because many black do illegal things, any black can get "contaminated " by that plague, right?...

well... surprise!!!! some dont do that. explaining something so easy to understand, makes me wonder if you really believe what you say or you just need to make

some noise...

btw: this happens all over the world, in every country that i know....

the most fragile, the most borderline, the ones without rights are being used by mafias as puppets in their bad business, you think thailand is different?

ill talk about my country...

in [my country, maybe yours too]  is difficult to work illegally  without permit, but is impossible if the "boss" is not a local, the stupid immigrant is paid a small salary and the bad hearted

boss saves money 2 times, paying less and skipping the fisco.

also is difficult to skip deportation for years if you not pay bribes to authorities, and you know what? these authorities are indeed local from [my country]

also is difficult to sell drugs if a local doesnt supply to the small dealers...

dont be manipulated, open your eyes... think about who you blame to, or at least, try to be sensitive about other people

because even i dont accept and i really condemn ,  and keep clear has nothing in connection to my situation of my bf...

ill tell u something... you know what? even in that corners of society,

some of them are good people: mothers doing prostitution because they have to feed their childs....

guys trafficking to pay a surgery to someone,

maybe it sounds like a movie, but is happening outside your building right now, and just for the respect of they honorable reasons mixed with bad luck,

lets keep quiet.

this is the IDC in spain : https://goo.gl/FnTVkf

this is italy: goo.gl/sdYhmA

you see i dont make discrimination, many countries have that poo under the carpet, but doesnt mean its right

leaving them forever in a place like that wont stop big mafias in the streets

and sure they will not be better humans when (/if) they get out.

so please, try to dont make us smell that racism again, thanku

I didn't read everything because this thread is quite long already, so excuse me if somebody suggested it already:

You don't know if your friend is really in IDC or what's up there and probably you don't have know anybody in Thailand who you can trust?

In your situation i would ask the people here if somebody who can speak Thai (or let his GF do this) is willing to do a phone call to the IDC to confirm if your friend is really there. Of course you have to give the details of your friend to this person.

This way at least you don't waste your time and money if your friend is not even in the IDC

well. jackdd, is a good suggestion, and even it was in my mind, i cant directly ask for it....

but now i don't think that way is needed, thanks for the support to many people here i have assumed how to do...

i always been a bit kamikaze in love, i have to go there, im ready for the worst (I'm also a hypochondriac, hehe) so lets rest and

let the things progress, this thread (and my blood) is getting too hot

regards again and sorry for the speech before

Hello, people in thaivisa!

Its been long time since my last posts, I know that can make some of you think bad,

but I do not forget my promise: as this story ends (and I hope it will be soon and good), I will inform you with all kind of details.

As an advance, I can say that it has been a nightmare, in fact, as someone suggested, this is worth to be narrated in a novel or a movie

(if someone has contact with Wentworth Miller, let him know that I would love him to do my role, haha).

I joke because as I told you, my expectations are positive, so please stay tuned on.
