Southern provinces warned of heavy rains

By The Nation

A heavy-rain warning was issued on Monday morning by the Meteorological Department for several southern provinces, with the deluge expected to last until Saturday.

A high-pressure mass from China has extended to upper Thailand and strengthened the northeast monsoon over the Gulf of Thailand and the South, the department said in its second warning issued for Sunday. On Monday, it updated the forecast to predict that the combination of the stronger monsoon and a low-pressure mass over the South would cause heavy rains.

From Monday to Thursday, heavy rains are expected in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat.

From Thursday to Saturday, heavy rains would hit Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung and Songkhla from Thursday to Saturday.

The forecast is pretty worrisome for the southern provinces because for the weekend some areas are going to receive more than 300 mm of rain which will be the cause of devastating floods. People should prepare from now for serious floods over there.
