Fire hits Hat Yai railway police station

By The Nation

Police officers ran for their lives after a blaze spread at the railway police station in Songkhla’s Hat Yai district on Tuesday.

The fire broke out at 11.30am in the living room on the left side of the two-storey police station in front of the Hat Yai Railway Station and quickly engulfed the left side of the building.

Railway policemen who were working on the ground floor had to quickly move documents and guns from a weapons storage room.

Six fire engines arrived at the scene and took two hours to control the blaze, with firefighters breaking a hole in the back of the storage room to reduce the heat for fear that ammunition inside would explode.

No one was injured in the incident.

Pol Lt-Colonel Charnsarawut Saeng-aroon, an inspector at the station, said the cause of the fire had not been determined.
