Hi.  I understand that for an American to get an extension of stay from Immigration, he/she must have a work permit from a company that pays a monthly rate of at least 50,000 baht (or is it 60,000 baht?).

If I had work permits for two jobs (two companies) paying a total of 60,000 baht per month, would that fulfill the salary requirement to get an extension of stay?  Thanks.

It is 50k baht to get the extension.

I don't think they would accept the application with a combined salary equal to or exceed 50k baht from 2 jobs. If they did it would require a stack of supporting documents from each company.

Your best option may be to get a multiple entry non-b visa in Penang. You will need a work permit valid for at least 8 months to apply for it. There is no minimum salary to get the visa.

I don't think you can work for two companies in Thailand easily.  The amount should not matter as long as you have a work permit. You will not get a work permit if they pay is not enough. With that said, certain industries have different requirements.  For instance, folks from Myanmar who do domestic don't need 50 or 60 K. Teachers are exempt or rather have a lower requirement than say engineers or managers.

My understanding is that there are no salary requirements for the work permit provided by the labor department. Minimum salaries (which vary by nationality) only apply for an extension of stay on the basis of working. If you do not mind border runs every 90 days, then (as suggested by @ubonjoe) a multiple entry Non B visa may be acceptable for those below the salary level needed for the extension.

The financial criteria is only for immigration to grant the extension, there is no wage restrictions to get the work permit.

There is no minimum salary requirement for a work permit.

Migrant worker from Myanmar and 3 other countries fall under a different category.

For a extension of stay application based upon working for a company varies by country.

From police order 327/2557.

How does it work if you own your own business?  I teach part-time and have a school with all the necessary employees and such but i am not drawing a large salary.

You would have to apply for the extension under clause 2.1 of the police order and would have to meet the minimum salary requirement.

As I wrote earlier you only may be to get a multiple entry non-b visa.

If you were working for a school as a teacher you would not have a minimum salary requirement.
