11th year starts April 1 2017 0%

I had seen that to, but I think that someone at customs dep.t found a way a levy high taxes anyway.

Z900 ABS US price $8,800, Thai price $12,225

At least Kawa seems to import all their lineup, other makers don' even bother.

Found this in another thread.

Trade agreement regarding motorcycles.

Reading the notes at the start (see extract below), my interpretation is the agreement started Nov 2007 so

2nd year starts April 1 2008 49.09%

3rd year starts April 1 2009 43.64%

4th year starts April 1 2010 38.18%

5th year starts April 1 2011 32.73%

6th year starts April 1 2012 27.27%

7th year starts April 1 2013 21.82%

8th year starts April 1 2014 16.38%

9th year starts April 1 2015 10.91%

10th year starts April 1 2016 5.45%

11th year starts April 1 2017 0%

Those are very interesting figures, I don't see that reflected in prices here.

Well, for one the table is incomplete. According the the agreement http://www.mofa.go.jp/region/asia-paci/thailand/epa0704/annex1.pdf check page 50, bike up to 250cc should have had no duties from the beginning. And above 800cc, final duty is 20%.

I'm not sure if the excise tax 35% and interior tax 10% are charged on Japanese imports. But VAT 7% surely is, which brings the Thai price of the Z900 in my example above to be more consistent with the USA one.

Depends on the model it seems. An R1 is almost 30,000 USD here in Thailand. Other bikes like the Z900 and MT09 are closer to US prices but still more expensive here.

I'm guessing the manufacturers kept the prices up and pocketed the difference as extra profit, which is pretty lame when you consider the strength of the Baht would already benefit them when importing.

Not my cup of tea, but a good price.

The 250 price is insane.

The only Stallion that should continue selling is the 400cc version at around 115k baht.
