Policeman killed by speeding 71-year-old driver

By The Nation

A senior policeman suffered fatal injuries after being struck by a car while setting up a road block to cordon off the scene of a previous accident in Chaiyaphum's Mueang district on Sunday night.

The pickup driver has been named as Zon Lookprairee, 71.

The accident happened at about half past midnight (00.30am Monday) on highway 201 near the Ban Nong Sung Intersection in Tambon Nai Mueang.

The officer, Pol Sub-Lt Pramote Kobmoo, 40, later died at Chaiyaphum provincial hospital.

Police said Pramote, chief of the traffic department at Mueang Chaiyaphum police station, went to the spot after learning that two pickups had crashed each other near the intersection.

Pramote was setting up a road block about 500 metres ahead of the first accident scene when Zon was approaching. Other police officers saw Pramote wave for him to stop but hesped up and hit the officer, dragging him for several metres.

Zon was arrested and taken to the police station, where he told officers he had not intended to hit Pramote. He said he thought police were about to set up a checkpoint there so he sped up in order to pass the spot before the checkpoint was in place.

Yes! That´s logic indeed! If you see a checkpoint beeing set up, then also never forget to add speeding the ticket.

So this guy was arrested immediately. Probably won't be released on bail.

So different from another similar case.

What the hell,Guy see a Cop waving at him probably panic's as he thinks it may cost him 200 baht, speeds up and takes the cop out.

The downside of living entirely in the moment.

Such a waste of a life. Hard to even comment, or fathom this. Really, ultimately, the police are at fault. Not this particular policeman, but the police in general. They do not take traffic safety seriously, and as a result the population does as they please. No deterrent. No fear of the cops. Just a free for all. And the secondary responsibility falls on the tiny shoulders of the little man. He does nothing. He cares not one iota for the common people. If you are not rich or connected, you do not exist here.

So were things much different before the little man became The Little Man?

I remember a woman telling the police she could not stop for red light because the breaks did not work.....

The me me me attitude  Let the old guy go You let the red bull guy go  oops forgot Red Bull guy has lots of money this guy prob has not Off to jail you go mate

If he's a prominent doctors, he'll simply be transferred to an inactive position until the stink passes over.  If not - he might go to jail.

Two tiered justice - That's Thailand for ya.
