Rock star Artiwara “Toon” Kongmalai briefly attended a student concert during his marathon charity run, in Chumphon, on Monday morning.

Toon, his girlfriend, Ratchawin “Koy” Wongwiriya and his entourage began Day 20 in front of Bang Chak petrol station in Tambon Tako, Thung Tako district for the first leg of the day’s journey.

A lot of local people waited along the road to give the singer moral support on Monday. The crowd was especially big at the roadside Khao Peep maket in Tambon Thung Takrai. The crowds kept shouting “Phi Toon Fight On” as Toon and his group passed them by.

When they reached Rajprajanukroh 3 School, they came across a concert by the school band. The lead singer, Nattawut Suetrong, 15, ninth grader, sang Toon's song, “Ok Hak” or broken heart, prompted Toon to join in the singing, much to the delight of everyone gathered there.

After the song, Toon thanked the crowed and resumed his run.

The group’s plan was to run 25.8 kilometres to the first rest point in Tambon Kron, Sawi district.

Sunday had been another big day - they had started out at Surat Thani and reached Chumphon, 183 kilometres to the north.

At the end of Day 19, the donations had risen to Bt285 million, his group announced.

Toon plans to raise Bt700 million for 11 public hospitals from his run, which started at Betong district in Yala province and ends at Mae Sai district in Chiang Rai, a total distance of 2,191 kilometres.
