Ministry to settle congestion problem at Sadao border crossing

SONGKHLA, 27th November 2017 (NNT) – The Ministry of Commerce moves to solve the overcrowded problem at Sadao border crossing with an aim at increasing border trade value between Thailand and Malaysia.

Commerce Ministry Permanent Secretary Nantawan Sakuntanak today discussed ways to settle the problem of congestion at the border crossing with custom officials and the private sector at the meeting room of Sadao border crossing in Songkhla. The meeting took place one day ahead of the mobile cabinet meeting in the southern province on Monday and Tuesday (November 27th and 28th).

The meeting was aimed at addressing and settling the problems hurting the border trade. Sadao border crossing is a major border trading gate between the two countries, with a total trade value of 300 billion baht a year, she said.

To facilitate the border trade, the government has launched a second Sadao border crossing development project, which is expected to be completed in mid-2019. Once completed, The Thai-Malaysian border trade value is expected to increase by 10 percent.
