If women put up with that they are stupid. Only a stupid person would marry a lazy drunk slob.

unless she had been earlier put up the duff by the drunken somchai, and became stuck with him

maybe it's all about what people are used to...

In many western countries the majority of educated middle class people are used to not only gender equality, but hysterical witchhunts as soon as a man so much as looks funny at one of those entitled selfpromoting woman-first fighters.

In some arabic countries people are used to women not beeing allowed to drive without permission of their husband, not being allowed to simply be in public without a man escorting them, or even show their faces... while their chauvinistic hypocrits of husbands, brothers and fathers ogle the lightly dressed bargirls of Thailand.

So.. I guess if women grow up seeing that most of the women around them do the heavy lifting they might think thats normal...

Even more so for the men. They see as soon as they have a girlfriend they can stop the romantic act and start drinking and gambling and sleeping around without the girl leaving them, so many do exactly that.

And if that's the way it is all around them, why change men, if they're all this way anyways? It's like with english food, no? You don't switch to plumpudding if you find the lardy cake disgusting. You go to the next chinese or indian joint and get real food.

So maybe farang are not only popular because they are seen as wealthy. Maybe we're just the indian food of the Thai girls.

Sadly... many of us are just McDonalds. But for the rest... boy used to feminist witchhunts meets girl used to drunken gambling addicts...

if that's not a hollywood love story I don't know what is.. :D

Well, it's because the Farang have more money?

Not ? rocket surgery here...

Some surgery on your sentence would be to take out the word rocket as the picture would suffice.

I'm confused.  I mean it's not rocket science is it?

totally agree with the women work as slaves, cleaning, washing cooking and keeping the family together and happy while the men (husbands) just sit around, smoke, drink and play with themselves, couldn't care less if the women (wife) does the main heavy work in lifting, maintaining etc. it's disgusting the attitude of men towards women, they are still living few centuries behind times, equality?? never heard of !

Get me a beer woman. Yep, life is good.

Precisely what I had said. Mom gave money when they were kids. Then, wife gives money when they get married, as mom did.

Then their best hope is a sister who hooks a farang. In the West, we talk about "skeletons in the closet". In Thailand, you need to watch out for the unemployed brothers lurking in the rubber plantation. Your new mother in law will instruct your wife to extract money to support her male siblings.

Your lovely new wife-to-be may seem too good to be true. Well, there is always free cheese in the mousetrap.

I had a GF (my only previous permanent relationship here) that was very much like the above.  We didn't get married though, and her mother said "he has no money, marry this other one who can buy us land and build us a house and get a new car".

She did really care, and didn't really think much of the suitor her mother promoted, but she complied with family wishes just the same.

I was gutted and it took years to get over, and swore if I ever met another then she was going to be an orphan as I couldn't afford that weakness in a potential relationship again.

I stopped feeling sorry for myself eventually, met a wonderful woman.  I'd started a business by then which was doing 'okay', worked more, diversified and build myself a pension.  I'm not old enough to have a retirement visa just yet, and I haven't got married either (though I call her my wife) as I wanted to see what village girl with no immediate family (but about 200 she's never met that are waiting in the wings) does when she has all the trappings, new car, cash in bank, healthy business, and see if I get side lined.

She really wants to get married, but from either side of the relationship we've both had the milk and the cow, so I don't see the point in telling government about our position (unless there were kids on the way which I feel would be a very bad idea in this country - especially that indoctrination centre called education).

Long rant, but I guess what I'm trying to say is be aware of family influence and what they're taught, and who they listen to.  One rice farmer Thai opinion counts for far more influence than 100 smart foreigners, with how you should divest.

My wife has a 16 year old boy that only goes to school one day a week for 4 hours. Lazy as <deleted>. Does not help around the shop. But puts his hand out every day for food or money to go with his friends. I have tried to guide her on how to handle him. By not giving money if he does not work. Not let him have the motorcycle if he does not listen to her. But she does not want to hurt his feelings. I gave up after a year of trying to help. Now I just set back and enjoy watching hom <deleted> his life. 2 more years and he will be out of here. I have started talking about the army .. to see if his mother will send him that way. Would be good for him.

I trust you appreciate that your wife will not only need to approve this idea, she would actually need to be seen to have come up with that solution all by herself.

Funny quote....is it about the money or not?

[“We’re done with Thai men,” Patcharin said she was told by one of the Thai wife’s mothers, who had encouraged her daughter to divorce her Thai husband and marry a foreigner. “It’s not just about money, but they’re unfaithful and always cheating on women. They don’t take responsibility for their family, and never have enough money to take care of their wife and kids.”]

Hmmm, yeah, I'd say it's about the money.

But,as she said, not JUST about the money.

It was once said that American men are good because the American woman made them that way.

It might be money but the real cause is education and dependency on mommy. I like to think 'some' foreign men know how to 'nurture' the wife and family environment. This probably comes from the culture and the western family.

There are two totally different types of Isaan women in Isaan with faring husbands. Those previously working in Pattaya or the likes and returning with their farang husband. And those from Isaan that were usually previously married to a Thai man. What the author is describing l think is mainly the second group. Many in this group are educated and come from a good family. They can be teachers, lawyers, nurses, business ladies.

I'm sorry but that gal in the photo does not look like a teacher, lawyer, nurse or business lady............

Pic in post #1 I see a young couple, pets, smiles, transport, some kind of effort to generate income.  Sure a picture can be very deceiving at times, but I can't understand why people are down on them without actually knowing anything about them.  Maybe we're all just jealous that we're not 20 somethings with a blue sky to look forward to(?).

Sure we're not done until we're done, but no reason to make a wake of turbulence for those that arrive after us.

Everybody has their own take on this story and if married to a Thai has their own story to tell about the glue that holds them together.

My wife was a third category since she had never been married but had boyfriends of course.  When she started thinking about marriage she learned computers, got online, and started looking for a foreign husband.  That's how we met and we've been married 12 years.

Money, stability, loyalty, and sincerity were her motives as she tells it.  In return I got what I could not have found in America. .. a beautiful, loving, and caring wife.  Without having money I doubt she would stay...what't the point in being relationship with a man in poverty.  Fortunately she will never have to confront that issue with me.  But money was not the primary motive as she has never begged unreasonable sums for this and that and while we lived in America she worked to send money home thereby reducing my burden.

Boyfriends lied to her, screwed around, screwed neighbors of hers,  and disappeared for weeks only to return like nothing happened.  I get it as the choices are endless here and there will always be another pair of short-shorts to explore and while the females might want stability the guys likely want complete freedom.

That has worked to my benefit and I feel I am the lucky one.  They tossed away what I have learned to cherish.

Thai women (perhaps women in general!) always go where the grass is greener!

They're quite happy having their fun, playing cards, flirting etc, but heaven forbid if you behave the same way! lol

Western guys allow them to have their cake, and eat it too! What's not to like!
